Hey guys and girls,

You may have noticed yesterday that we gave the forum a bit of a restructure.

If you have any suggestions, please shout now and we will do our best to take them on board. There is a limit to how many forums we can put together so we have tried to categorise them as efficiently as possible.

Kind regards,

Admin

Sorry to say that I hadn't noticed. Perhaps I should pay more attention.

well that's gotta be a good thing!

I know the suggestion for regional sections was turned down but how about a members map so people can see who is nearby and/or adding a section for meets where people can arrange their own?

I guess this raises the question of whether you want your exact location known? I think some people would be pretty anti the idea? Let the debate roll...

I believe they usually work by postcode rather than an exact pinpoint of your house! Plus you opt in rather than being updated automatically

The forum that I moderate has a Meetings and Events section where people arrange regional meets for example South East, Essex, Manchester etc

If you want your location to be known you can enter it in your personal information within your user control panel and it will appear under your name in your posts :D

As far as I am aware nothing has been turned down.........it is an Admin decision. The other post just allowed people to give their opinions about it. My own is very anti giving out addresses and exact locations including post codes. Personal reasons. If you have somebody's post code it is a simple matter to track them down........

As Sid says, anybody can arrange meets with other members if they desire. At the moment putting personal information on the board is not allowed. However, the pm system is there for all to use if they want.

We are on the hunt for something suitable, keep em coming

Personal opinion

Too many forums! means to much scrolling and some of the important forums will be missed as a lot of people won't be bothered to scroll..

I think that the insulin pump forum is wrongly placed, and should be a sub-forum linked to T1 forum, as it stands you've got to scroll right the bottom of the page to find it, also the children's forum...

Like Ken I would not be happy to add my postcode. However maybe a map by county might be good.
It would be interesting to see if we have any "hotspots".
I like the forum pretty much as it is, finding it easy to navigate etc.

I'm with Jopar on the "too many forums" and "scrolling" issue.

And for what it's worth, I think that General Chat should go further down – and move food/nutrition and Diabetes management up. Those who have time to chat have time to scroll!!!!

Can we have a ' Please read this First ' section at the top of the Index board so that new members
can read the Forum Ethos and Policies without having to look for them in the ' Discussion ' Forum.

Are we ever going to get a tool bar for FireFox ? :)

As for scrolling .....if you use the ' View new posts ' or Active Topics' function you get all the new stuff on one handy page and you can then jump to your favourite Forum without too much effort.

You can also save your favourite bit of the Forum onto a separate tab so that it opens when you switch on browser.

I'm a bit puzzled by this 'scrolling' business ?? If you have a wheel mouse then it takes only a second to scroll up or down a page. I agree that the 'Insulin Pump' section should be a sub section of T1.
The main problem I find is that there are sufficient Fora just that people only seem to look at their particular interest.........we need more to take a look at other areas and get involved.

After all......it is about helping others and not just getting answers to your own questions.

First time vistors want to see what's on offer clearly and easily.. Being hit with a whole load of information and forums can be rather off putting, and confusing. A balance of forums needs to be found, splitting down into too many forum or sub forums is more negative than helpfull..

As people get confused to where they should be putting their post too... Do you put a post in the T1 or Ask A Question or perhaps would Exercise or One of the diet forums be better?????

Scrolling may not be a problem for one, but another might find it irrating to say the least, scrolling can mean that you miss things as you flick through...

I've find it strange why the person who designed the website change it's original colour from blue to red! Blue is easy on the eye as well as being a colour which is non threatening, but gives a clarity and sharpness etc..

Red is a colour that most support forums will try to avoid, as it's a threatening and aggressive colour signaling danger etc.. Not an image that a support forum would want to display!!!

Seems good I like the structure. Food etc and t1 and t2. Scrolling is not issue unless your stuck in 1995

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but could the 'Information For Newly Diagnosed' as given by Sue & Ken be stickied at the top of the Greetings & Introductions board so that new members can be referred their by others who may see the new members first:?: As a lot of new members are clearly confused and often distressed it would make it easier for them to be pointed to the information quickly.

As for scrolling, I don't find it an issue except when I enter the Diabetes Discussions board, there are just so many stickied threads most of them blar blar threads if you know what I mean so of little interest, and I have to scroll down just to see the first 'real' thread, mad

ps. I know the blar blar threads have to go somewhere, but honestly, does anyone really read them :?: couldnt they have a board of their own somewhere. Information & News perhaps, the news bit might entice members in there as well :D

pps. Forum rules? I mean come on, its like the instructions you get with a technical gadget, men just dont read instructions, its a recognised medical condition

We've broken down the forum nav into clear sections to help people find what they are looking for. Previously, the forum was a list that had become too long, it needed organising. As you may have noticed, greetings and introductions, diabetes discussions and ask a question are all at the top of the forum with the express purpose of helping first time visitors.

As people get confused to where they should be putting their post too... Do you put a post in the T1 or Ask A Question or perhaps would Exercise or One of the diet forums be better?????

Surely if it's a diet or exercise related post it would go into those forums? If it's a clear question, then it would be posted there or in discussions if a debate rather than an answer was expected. If it was T1 related, it would be posted in that forum?

I've find it strange why the person who designed the website change it's original colour from blue to red! Blue is easy on the eye as well as being a colour which is non threatening, but gives a clarity and sharpness etc. Red is a colour that most support forums will try to avoid, as it's a threatening and aggressive colour signaling danger etc.. Not an image that a support forum would want to display!!!

Changing to red saw the visitors to this site increase from a few thousand to hundreds of thousands each month. Thankyou for your advice, but we wanted this site to stand out from 'most support forums'

Some great points raised through this thread though, thankyou to all contributors so far.
