Trying to conceive

Hey..so my pump broke last Friday so been injecting which has been ****. Have appointment with DSN for HbA1c and hopefully to reprogramme new pump. I just hope my HbA1c is acceptable. Also in the middle of having a rhimatoide arthritis flare. How is everyone else? X

That's so typical for something to happen like that when you are trying so hard and are fine tuning your sugars in preparation! So sorry to hear you're having a rough time of it! Fingers crossed you get your new pump sorted and the hba1c you are hoping for let us know how u get on X

I girls, I've been absent from here the last month as I've had alot going on.things have settled though and I went to a post dafne meeting on Friday. They were happy with my results but said to hold off until early July before I get my next hba1c because if I got 1 now I would be disappointed. Fairly impatient I am!really wanna start trying!

@Sarahkylie88 how is your pregnancy going bar the lows? How's everyone else doing?

I know the feeling. That was what I was told about 6 weeks ago. However I had one done on Friday so fingers crossed. Sarah did you just have to wait until your HbA1c was down or did they look at pre and pist dinner readings as well before they gave you the green light?

Hi ladies, not going too badly, few ransom lows and now because I've hit week 9 I've had to reduce my basal and some I:c ratios because there is a dip in hormones and your sugar dips as a consequence before rising again in the near future! I haven't felt the hormone dip, I'm an emotional wreck!

The only looked at my hba1c before I got the go ahead, my levels were being looked at still as I was fairly new to pump, was just told to tighten up post meals to with 1 hour rather than 2 when I fell pregnant!

Things are heading in the right direction for u both stick with it X X X

So I had my result today and it was 55 / 7.2 I am over the moon and she has given me the go ahead to start planning a pregnancy. I just need to keep up the hard work so I can get it as low as possible.

Ah its lovely to get a bit of motivation from someone who was in the situation and is now pregnant! Thanks @Sarahkylie88! Keep the updates coming, it's all new to me hearing about the dips etc which I never knew about!you seem to be coping very well though fair play!I'm imagining you are keeping it quiet from everyone for now? My friend at work told me today she is 4 weeks gone . literally conceived the week after her wedding! She said wouldn't it be great if we were pregnant together and I found myself hoping! I am thinking of coming off the pill after this month so my body will have time to readjust. I'm very bad this week, find myself constantly thinking about it!

@Amy.W I just saw your post now! That's fantastic news!! Well done! You must be so excited!were you surprised? Have you to come off the pill now? I'm thinking about finishing out this month and stopping it

I am so pleased but going to wait until my knees have been injected with steroid next week. I knew it was much better but didn't think it would be that good. Yeah I has my implant out a few months ago so it was out of my system.

Fingers crossed it happens quick for you! It's bloody hard work! Good on you :) Hope the steroid injections sort you out
I'm supposed to be back at the preconception clinic next Thursday but because I'm not having having an updated a1c until July I don't know if there's much point in me going. This thread has really motivated me though I got to say!

Wow really good news for you! I'm stuck waiting to find out what's going on until our appointment in July. Though not having heard anything from the consultant might[\i] be somewhat good news

Hi, not too bad us diabetics are so use to injections I think it helps. Just need to rest. Have increased Basel by 10% as steriod raises BG. Does anyone have aviva insight computer software was wondering if it's worth getting. Xx

Am 17+5. Still struggling with post breakfast spikes and mid afternoon hypo. I thought in the second trimester insulin resistance increases? Am exhausted with the hypos. Almost cried this afternoon and left work early. Not even the massive bag of haribo cheered me up (barely got me to to 5.0, hypo again an hour later). Antenatal clinic tomorrow. Would it make sense to stop basal and just rely on bolus?

@Postitnote Have you tried snacks (without a bolus) and/or extra longer acting carbs after your Haribos/glucose? I found sometimes I could eat sweets and a snack without a bolus when I was prone to hypos. I just kept testing and ate what I needed, in small amounts at a time - ie I didn't just stuff in a 40g carb snack in one go, I had 10 or 15g then tested to see how I was going.

The insulin resistance generally starts to kick in somewhere between 18 and 25 weeks but it can vary. Somewhere on here I wrote when mine started but I can't remember at the moment (baby brain still ongoing!) I noticed it become stronger around 25 wks, I think, but had had some milder IR before that.

Thanks @azure , I was being flippant about the Haribo. :p I generally have Jacobs cream crackers for a long acting following a hypo. 5g carb each so easily measurable. Just having a time of it at the moment. I try to be disciplined with testing. I was initially but recently I'm just exhausted as I can't find a pattern and what works one day doesn't the next. I am just in a mood. I shall cheer up shortly I'm sure!

I shall regret whinging when it all goes pear shaped in a few weeks when (if?) IR kicks in!
