What does the UK leaving the EU mean for us?

On a slightly different note, and hypothetically speaking, if the EU governance structure, ahead of the referendum had been proposed as follows, what would your view have been and why?

1. European Parliament - pretty much as it is now. MEP numbers based on population of member states.

2. European council: MEPs elect 2 representatives per member state to act as a check and balance for the parliament. Run as a publicly responsible body.

3. European Commission disbanded and European Civil Service replaced it with powers similar to those of UK Civil Service.

4. European president elected across the entire EU by public vote and could stand for a maximum of three, three year terms.

5. All member state responsibility for monetary, fiscal, tax, health, defence, industry and migration given up to the governing bodies of the EU.

It's interesting, the level of feeling that this arouses.

Whatever happens in the future, the "Them and us" attitude will not be eradicated for a generation or two. Roughly 50% of the population will resent the other 50% for forcing them into a position they absolutely don't want.

That can't be changed and no level of "That's democracy, live with it" will make any difference. I suspect, if a full "Leave all of The EU edifices" is where we end up, a significant proportion of people will want a path to leave the UK!

I was a Remain, but I accept the decision.

It will take 16 million + more individual acceptances to garner collective responsibility for charting a positive direction of travel, acknowledging, as with all things that there will be course corrections along the way.

For me, it is more important to Reconciled than to be Right.

Isn't this a fundamental requirement of what humanity, thinking of the bigger cause?

That's the thing.
The only ones allowed to vote were adults.
It's no use having a tantrum, kicking your heels and screaming 'I'm still a child' now.
The kids have demanded to be treated like an adult,
You've been allowed your adult responsibilities, dad let you grow up.
You ran off to the clown.

Good choice.

So, are you going to stand by your new adult status?
Or admit you made a complete mess, run back to dad, shut up, hide in your room, and let the grown ups sort your mess out.
Or still squeal the grown ups need to do it your mad clown way, while still being a spoilt kid, who needs dad to sort it out for you?

Guess what.

Dad's gone to the beach.
Try not to burn his house down while he's away.
Dad certainly has gone to beach, that was his plan all along! The child that chose the chocolate isn't the one that is having a tantrum, which is perfectly clear from the remain comments just this thread! The public cannot sort this one way or the other, only the father, clown or mother can! So yes I am standing by my new 'adult' status and expecting my PM to take the country forward to a new brighter future!

The "child" must be a little disappointed that there was no "golden ticket" in the chocolate wrapper...?
Father stopped the car due to the nonsense in the back seat..
Mums gone to Iceland...

.... & we'll find out who the coulrophobias are when the fool starts bending balloons...!

Why couldn't Boris and Gove both go for the leadership? I don't understand why Boris pulled out - sounds a bit stinky to me was he TOLD to pull out by the rest of the party cos they didn't want him to be PM at all?

No of course don't believe it. There was only actual proof of one person saying they would change their vote.
If you actually read the article you will see that it is about an opinion poll. There are also a few people quoted.
While I know that opinion polls aren't necessarily 100% accurate, it does show that some Brexiters are now Bregretters.
I think it is too late now, they will have to live with the consequences of their vote, as will the rest of us. I just hope it all works out, but nobody knows what is going to happen. I suspect that after months or years of uncertainty nothing much will be different in the end.

Just heard the Farming prog on R4. We look like messing up our UK farming and environment. There is NO future planning for Brexit and Defra has been so slimmed down they are not capable of dealing with it. Looks like the food banks are going to busy when farm prices rise.
You Brexiteers will have to get these problems sorted PDQ, future farming planning was a seven year cycle in the EU.
D.

Johnson Senior was somewhat the worse for drink on last week's 'the Last Leg' on Channel 4, no doubt after celebrating the likelihood that young Boris was going to be the next PM. But a week is a long time in politics.:D

Like Matt, little else to read in the DT apart from how bonkers they are... and the obits.

Erm, excuse me, stop bending my analogy! :wacky:Dad hasn't bought the chocolate yet, remember he b****red off to the beach! I repeat, hopefully mum will step in, buy the chocolate and a lottery ticket whilst she is there and all will be rosy! :D
P.S I think the clown has burst all his balloons with his back stabbing knife!

Don't worry.
I'm sure the clown's replacement has already upped to ante to include guaranteed lottery wins.
It'll be believed by 52% of us if he does, unfortunately.

I did 'actually' read the article. It said people were nervous and shocked at the outcome. Not proof that they would change their vote though. I personally still feel that is nonsense, it is easy to quote without proof and even if there were people who want to change their mind it is a small minority. What does it matter what the 'polls' are saying anyway, it doesn't change anything! All it does is make remain voters even more upset.

Ha ha, you really are clutching at straws now. Bet even the so called 'intelligent' remainers would go for that.

Yes, we'd all believe a politician that guaranteed lottery wins.
And then no doubt blame Camelot when they didn't pay out.

Please can we get this thread back on track. I hope we can all accept that both Leave voters and Remain voters were made up of a variety of people - rich, poor, young, old, graduates, non-graduates, etc, etc.

We know some Leave voters regretted their vote and I'm sure we've seen that same (unrelated) woman and man on TV over the past week. Polls have shown that a smaller percentage of Remain voters also regret their vote.

It'd be interesting to consider the options for Brexit and which of those options posters here would prefer. Like Norway? Completely separate from the EU - no trade, no freedom of movement?

Continued taunts about members will lead to a thread ban. Please get back on track and discuss the EU and related issues.

Actually in my opinion you have made various predictions and assumptions over several posts. Perhaps the UK haven't invested as they have sat back and let the EU do it for them or because they have used all their funds on the EU? Am I an obfuscater? Takes one to know one! ;)
