Diagnosed 8.12.17 diabetic t2. Hba1c 62. LCHF since and my weight has dropped from 14 stone 3 to 11 stone 11 as of today. I've tested on my home hba1c kit and yesterday I was 42. I'm a healthy bmi now I can control my BG with the low carb diet but keep testing different foods of late to see how they effect me and if my insulin Resistance is getting any better.

Here are my latest readings:

6.2 early morning before 2 fried bacon n 2 fried eggs
5.9 after 1 hour 5.8 after 2 hours

Next morning

5.9 before a slice of wholemeal toast with butter and cheese
7.6 after 1 hour
8.0 after 2
7.4 after 3

Next morning

4.8 before caramelised cheese n onion quiche salad with coleslaw
7.3 after 1 hour
8.3 after 2 hours
7.8 after 3 hours

BG up the next morning I think as a result if the quiche (I didn't eat the side crust)

5.7 early morning
4.9 after 2 hours eggs n bacon

Stilton and broccoli soup and one slice of bread for dinner, a few nuts and 1 glass of red and the following morning BG down to
4.8 before scrambled eggs on toast
7.6 after 1 hour
6.3 after 2

I'm getting into the swing if when I need to monitor and what I'm looking for now thanks to the forum discussions which have been so helpful.

I just want to add that the DN wanted to put me straight onto metformin at diagnosis but I've asked her to bear with me for 3 months to see what I can do with diet and exercise. So at the moment I'm not taking any meds.

Great start you have made. I stuck to about 1500 Cal / 120g Carbs per day for he first 8 months. By this time I had lost 6 stone and didn't want to lose any more so upped my levels to 1800-2000 Cal and 180-200g Carbs per day. This has stabilised my weight at 11 stone and my FBG averages 4.2 with no issues after meals with spikes. Last 2 HbA1c tests were 32.
I now eat pretty much what I fancy (but still avoid all calorie dense and processed foods - if I want cake I make it myself), and I test 5 or 6 times a week at random times.
It CAN be done.
Good luck and very well done so far.

My FBG today is 5.7 taken on waking at 8.30am.

Yesterday I closely monitored myself as I was having pasta for the first time since being diagnosed on 8.12.17 and going on LCHF. Here are my notes:

4.4 before spaghetti bolognese (home made) a few salted peanuts and a glass of red wine. Night out to see a show and we both had 3 glasses of prosecco(lowest carb alcoholic drink I like) during the evening - tested in between!

Hubby (non diabetic) before dinner = 5.1
AFTER 1 hour hubby = 5.9
Hubby after 2 HOURS 4.9
Me after 1 hour = 7.8
Me after 2 HOURS 6.6
Me after 2.5 HOURS 6.9!
Me after 3 HOURS 5.9

FBG 5.7 so slightly up from 4.8 the previous day which may or may not be a reflection of yesterday!

I was really surprised the pasta didn't spike my BG more and was pleasantly surprised to be honest. It was my favourite spaghetti too!! Happy bunny.

WOW! that is really encouraging @midnightrider. I'm so happy to think I can possibly get to the same stage as you. You have done incredibly well. Exceptionally well actually. Well done. I'm not really sure exactly how many carbs/calories in having each day but I've just bought the nook carbs and calories which means I can hopefully now expand on what I eat and know exactly what I'm having in calorific and carb value. What was your initial hba1c reading? How long did it take you to get to the non diabetic range? Are you classed as reversed or in remission? If you had an afternoon tea with all the sugar that involves woukd you not spike? Or do you still have to be careful? Sorry for all the questions but I'm just still trying to get my head around things thanks.

My progress is listed in my signature. It didn't take very long but I think that I was insulin resistant rather than diabetic. I lost weight quickly and BG values dropped too. I am still very careful but haven't had a problem with anything yet. I still keep my food/exercise diary and measure bloods 5 or 6 times a week at random times and after anything unusual.
Classed as 'resolved' whatever that may mean.
I use a free website https://cronometer.com/ to keep track of stuff. It can be a bit fiddly at first but you will soon get the hang of it.
You need accurate scales too https://www.amazon.co.uk/Accuweight...25577&sr=1-2&keywords=electric+scales+kitchen
but these are only about a tenner.
I am here every day if you have any questions.
