Hahaha!
Skip a single day on here, and miss 4 pages of posts, while chunks of doughnut food porn and a new way to Copy Me That. Brilliant.

Last couple of days I have been off choc and on halva.
No withdrawal symptoms from the choc, glad to say.

Only prob had a slight miscommunication with Mr B.
I talked about halva (as in DIY lo carb) and he thought I meant the bought stuff.
So my Valentines pressie was 2 x 400g of exquisite Greek halva. No added sugar. So honey used instead.

:woot::wacky::nailbiting:

In other news, went out for lunch and gorgeously warm sunny dog walk yesterday. Spring is starting to spring I am delighted to say.

B: none
L: posh pub burger. No green stuff or bread. But I did use a few chips to scoop up the leftover aioli and paprika (divine!!!!) mayo.
Pud was the cheeseboard. Soft creamy, smoked, intense goats cheese, Stilton. No crackers. But I did eat 2 frozen grapes with it.
D: not needed, but I ended up snaffling a small amount of Greek goats milk yog before bed

Lovely thoughtful Valentine prez from Mr B.
My youngest daughter told me her boyfriend had come home yesterday evening with 2 giant bottles of bleach and a jar of gherkins for her Valentine present! She is a bit obsessive about cleaning the loo and she loves gherkins and can easily eat awhole jar in one sitting so I suppose that was a thoughtful gift in it’s way ( not to mention cheaper than roses or chocs but I didn’t voice that opinion)

Haha! yes.
I got Mr B a retro game controller with 200 mini games on the SD card, so we were both v happy,

The bought halva is around 30-35g carbs per 100g and it is absolutely delicious. My homemade version is nowhere near as nice. The bought version is also toothacheingly sweet, so a single 3/4 inch cube is a peak experience, but also quite enough at a time.
Win win.
The longer I can leave the packets unopened. the better.

okra. Cigarette smoke, old, new, and permeating a room, wafting from a balcony, etc etc. That I have so many chronic diseases. That I take so very many meds. Being cold. Anything too loud, but specifically non-classical music and the television.
@Brunneria aww sweet Mr B! Do you know, here they are either contemplating or have passed a rule which will make maple syrup (and presumably honey) carry a label which states “added sugar”. The maple syrup makers’ assoc is understandably up in arms. You don’t “add sugar” to maple syrup, and us devout connoisseurs are quite aware of that.
Isn’t spring gorgeous! We have trees “fuzzing out” by the hour, and the birds are all loudly territorial and I love it! One more nice day today, but then back to raw rainy days.
Took FBG @ 0700, early for a weekday. It was much lower than bedtime. Dithering about whether to risk letting DP take over, or eat soon and wait another couple hours before going for labs draw. Or eating now and skipping lunch, which could (COULD) get me a nice normal BG later this afternoon. Methinks me doth overthink this. It’s the HbA1c that’s at stake here, not the snapshot BG. Sigh. But TGIF anyway!

Lovely day here today - most of the windows are open and the washing flapping on the line.

The downside of the windows being open is that my lovely old Labrador girl is in season and her pheromones (or whatever they are called) are escaping through the open windows and we have a queue of 'gentleman callers' camped out outside.

@Goonergal - and anyone else who has fasted for a couple of days or more - could you give me some pointers about how to go about it sensibly as I think it's the only way I'm going to be able to reduce this Dawn Phenomenon.

Today...

Breakfast: Bacon and eggs (seriously bored with this but its the only breakfast that stops my DO from keeping on rising)

Lunch: Wensleydale with cranberries, one individual bar Moser Roth 85%

Dinner: Rotisserie roast pork, aubergine garlicky mash, as Lucy cauli rice, drizzle pomegranate molasses/syrup

Pudding: Strawberries and cream

Drinks: 1 x black decaff coffee, 1 x tea with skimmed milk, lots of water, glass or two of red wine.

@Chook I will bet you a whole giant bar of my Lindt 90% that your definition of a nice day is about 20 degreesF lower than mine. As a college student, I visited London in August (when it was 95F or higher at home, and saw girls walking around in sundresses while I was shopping for a wool turtleneck sweater because I was so cold! My hat has been off to all UK women ever since then!
We are in pollen season right now for a few months, so I live dangerously by opening windows (allergic asthma), but I do it anyway, except the one over the head of the bed after 5:00am Do you get “yellow car phenomenon” there? Pollen so thick your windshield is yellow every morning, and when it rains the puddles are outlined in bright yellow stripes.

.
When I did my first extended fast I chose a couple of days that were quite busy so I knew I wouldn’t be just sat thinking about the fact I was hungry. For me too I also like to start after lunch - it’s purely psychological but then missing that evening meal is relatively easy as I’ve eaten that day. Then in my head I’ve only got one whole day to get through on the fast because then at some point day 3 I usually eat. So eg
Fast starts Monday at 2pm. By wake up at 6am Wednesday morning I’ve fasted for 40hrs but only actually gone one whole day without food. As long as I feel ok I’ll then go through till Wednesday evening before I eat so in total doing around 52hrs fast.
Sounds silly I know but knowing I’ve eaten Monday, will eat again Wednesday makes the Tuesday feel easier than if I say woke up one morning and tried to do 2 full days. I can now do a bit longer than this but truly does depend on the day so the main thing I’d say is don’t put presssure on yourself. Yes you need some will power - for me I hit a slight wall at around 30hrs but it passes, but if you really are struggling and genuinely very hungry then I eat and just accept it as a slightly shorter fast than I’d like and hope for better next time. Good luck whichever way you decided to attack it :)

@zauberflote

I'd definitely lose out on the Lindt 90% because I know how hot it can get where you are. Its just lovely to have some sunshine - helps me think that winter is almost over although February can be a very, very cold month over here.

We do get pollen but I've only noticed cars get covered in it if they are parked very close or under a flowering tree. Occasionally I've seen puddles rimmed with blossom petals but can't say I've noticed them covered with pollen unless its oil seed rape pollen which makes me wheezy and sneezey - I live in the countryside and it feels like most of the surrounding fields are full of the stuff.

Thanks for the heads up re Finzi. Just listened to Romance in E flat major, Op. 11 and enjoyed it. @Chook drink plenty, more than you normally do and more than you think you should. I would add salt to some - maybe 1 tsp to a pint or use some bone broth but other people may advise differently. Also, have an exit strategy - don't go for a big or even normal meal soon after ending the fast.

Thank you very much for your very helpful replies.
@Emma_369 Good idea about starting after breakfast - it will bring my DP down and start me off from a lower BG and makes the whole thing seem more do-able.
@ianpspurs I really hadn't thought about an exit strategy - would a few nuts be suitable (followed later by bacon and eggs)? I don't like bone broth but have bought some Bovril. Good idea about the water - I've already got some of that pink Himalayan salt.

The nuts sounds good then see how you go I would suggest.

Good luck with fast if you decide to go for it. I’ve never fasted for longer than 23 hours but did so every day for a month. I now only fast when I’m in a rush or exercising.
@Emma_369 youve obviously worked out a way that works for you and you feel comfortable with love your new avatar btw and enjoy your weekend trip to London. @Chook hope you manage to work out a way that works for you too.

Weather makes such a difference to everything so I am a wholly nicer, kinder little boy today - I play much nicer in sunny weather. Hope everbod peeps here and abroad had soupy fish days.
Tea for breakfast - just the 5 pints. Lunch: 2 squares Green and Blacks Velvet mint dark chocolate (5.9 gms carb) - much more to my taste than plain 100%; 3 slices tongue and 2 or 3 rashers streaky bacon - sloppy really. Afternoon - cocoa with soy milk, almond milk and cream; Evening meal; 1 proper duck breast and 2 duck breast portions (1 was Julie's) - so much better than chicken and most red meat just not cheap; red little gem, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms fried in the duck fat; raspberry mousse from yesterday (SF jelly and cream); Only just finished evening meal so not sure how safe the new batch of smoked cheddar is.

Arghh. I’d made up a treat pack for after blood draw (nuts, choc, cream), but was so frustrated at what my meter told me 5 min before she took the blood, that the treat-ness was ruined. I was still drinking my bfast decaf, and ate some treat pecans and cashews. Ok but not stellar. Tasted the chocolate and realized that it was the leftover bar of 78% Lindt. It was TOO SWEET— (eta and not near chocolatey enough)!! Chucked it out the car window. One of my errands anyway is to go to Target and get more 90%, but I don’t feel like chocolate. While grocery shopping I thought on cheese, so my “while driving binge lunch” has been celery and this rich ripe cow/goatmilk double cream from Vermont. So the overdose is sodium, not carbs. I’m in the Target parking lot, licking the last of the cheese off my fingers, watching half a dozen dumpster-diving seagulls nestled as though nesting, on the pavement, all lined up facing NE. They look like a box of Easter Peeps!
Supper..... might be small. I just polished off a quarter pound or more of rich cheese! It’s warring in my belly with the six stalks of celery.
We’re going to the ballet tonight! Cinderella, which I played several times but was positioned in the pit so that I saw very little action. Apparently the “cross-dressing step-sistah” is going to be exceptionally broadly played this time round. S/he always got laughs but I guess they decided it was time to ramp things up a little...

Hi @Chook I’ve never got to a full 2 day fast, close but never quite made it. For me the keys to successful fasting are to pick a time when you know you’ll be in complete control of your time, keeping busy, making sure you stay hydrated and keeping your electrolytes up. I’m not a purist in the sense that small amounts of cream in hot drinks are allowed. Bone broth too, but I’ve never made/bought that. Oh and if you feel ill at any point, stop!

Having experimented with longer than 24 hour fasts, prolonged spells of OMAD and zero carb/carnivore I’m not convinced that the ‘pure’ fasting has any significant advantages over sustained OMAD or carnivore in terms of BG management. Infact my best spell of FBG combined with lowest morning rises (my second reading of the day is usually my highest) came during the recent carnivore month. Since fasting - including OMAD - is so much harder since my weight got into a normal range it’s great to know that carnivore is such a good option.

Not sure if that’s much help - all of this seems to be so individual.

All productions of Cinderella need two outrageously cross dressed sisters. If not, it’s just a weak take of a young fantasist in love with her footwear.
