Well doneWell I have mixed feelings about my diabetic review appointment. As expected I was greeted with the statement that my BS ( as well as cholesterol) level was of concern and we needed to discuss increasing my medication. I explained that since my last review 6 months ago I had been under a great deal of stress, pain and, due to my slipped disc, had not been able to exercise and was convinced they had contributed to my increased BS. She said it was all about what I was eating. (I admitted to some comfort eating). She recommended I eat green vegetables "every" day (OK with that) but frowned on my eating cheese, bacon etc and gave me the Diabetes UK meal planner which includes 2 slices of bread with lunch, spaghetti, lentils, bran flakes, porridge, rice, apple/muesli smoothie and snacks of carrots & fruit such as pears, banana, apple, orange, grapes etc. I explained that I'd been following a low carb diet. She said that didn't suit everyone. I referred her to my earlier results when I had my medication reduced as a result of my low carbing and exercise. I then suggested that now my slipped disc had improved I would prefer to increase my walking, get back on track with my eating and try and build in some "me" time then retest in 4 months. She agreed! So it was hard work but I achieved what I wanted and it has motivated me to be more disciplined and focused.
(PS: My HbA1C was 59. PPS:I won't be following the meal planner).
good morning folks, well it’s only 0700 here in the crazy city of New York.
Another flat 6 this morning, my internal workings are still massively confused about what time it is; up again at very dark o’clock.
We managed 12 miles yesterday according to my FitBit and are off to Brooklyn today for a wander round the parks.
It’s a bit nippy and breezy but that may have something to do with this:

I tend to agree with this Ian......
I dont really count calories nor carbs but can do on the back of envelope calculations . I find the difficulty is in determining feeling a real need, ie real hunger , getting used to the feeling of lower blood sugars , which seems to take a while to settle at various stages. ~Plus a niggling worry about the need to eat because of the prevailing ideology - instead of trusting the feeling of being just plain OK , or better than that . Its definitely a challenge.....
Some Healthcare professionals do listen......especially if your are calm and rational AND have some evidence as you didWell I have mixed feelings about my diabetic review appointment.
