Morning all 4.8 for me today

5.5 this morning.

Yesterday we went for a birthday lunch with my daughter went totally off the rails.

Blood sugar 1 hour after was 9.1, 2 hours 10.8 and at 3 hours was still at 8.3 but bedtime reading was 4.8 so weathered the storm OK I think.

Wow what did you eat last and how long was your fast?

I'm type 1, so lots of things can affect blood glucose levels, I could eat the same meal an bolus the same amount of insulin but get different results lol

Good morning.

9.4 this morning.

Glass half full, so I shall say I managed to sleep half the night. That is improvement on last 3 nights.

In the middle 3 hours of awakeness in the night I read positive stuff and about relaxing and meditation...

Yesterday morning was with the waterboard and the impending drain repairs which they are liable for as it is a shared drain with my neighbour...I have the shared bit of his s*** blocking my drains.

The morning was a nightmare, a comedy of errors. As I am profoundly deaf, and live on my own, the waterboard cannot just telephone me or expect me to telephone them. They have ignored all my preferred methods of communications - text, email, snail mail, but consistently put notes through the door saying telephone this number i.e. a voice call. I can't hear on the telephone.

This works for this have been pending since February. But I keep getting notes in my letterbox saying we cannot do the works as we cannot access both manhole covers. This is despite both manhole covers being visible from the main road and me giving prior permission in February do the works even though I might not be in that day.

Yesterday morning I finally went on Twitter to them. Things moved quickly. Or appeared to. I DM'd a photo of the job card which had all details and job number on it. Back and forth and back and forth. And I was promised it would be dealt with. I have to have my doorbell with me to see it flashing, and it had sat with me as I was DM'ing the waterboard. I went to make a cuppa, carrying my doorbell, and then in through the letterbox came a job card from the waterboard saying they were unable to contact me or gain access to the works needing doing so for me to telephone (voice call) this number.

What part of deafness do they not understand?

Then I realised the waterboard men had put the card through the door themselves, their van was outside. So outside I went and knocked on the window. Oh yes we just put that card through, they said. But you never rang the doorbell I said, I am holding to doorbell. Oh we didn't they said, you wouldn't hear it...

It got from bad to worse.

These two insisted they only had to do the first manhole cover and replace the drains under that. But the second one a bit further up the driveway was my responsibility. I said no, and that I had been told initially in February that the problems were were my neighbour's drains joined mine and that was the second manhole cover.

No no they said, you have that wrong. That second one is your responsibility, they said.

Come with me I commanded of the two big burly men in my best authoritative voice. I may be profoundly deaf but I can speak.

Reluctantly they followed. I had to 'make' them take the manhole cover off to prove it was a shared drain. They were so reluctant to do this. Ah yes, they said, it is a shared drain. Yes, that is completely our responsibility.

One had a camera, he said he didn't need to take photos, but I insisted even though photos were taken a couple of months ago.

Finally they go. Then I get a text off the waterboard saying that my the job number doesn't fit with my job. The men had the correct job number, it's been the same job number since February...and it's on the card they put through my door. So I photo the card and text the whole card to them...

In the meantime I had visions of the waterboard digging up the drains of some unsuspecting person because I had given permission for them to start the job if I was out at that point of time...

Hello Gennepher. I find that in the state health service the staff are proficient within their specialisms but often will pass slightly off-the-wall requests onto someone else or ignore them. A smile seems problematic.

A while ago I had an operation in a private hospital. Huge difference there. The staff had benefited from customer service training! My glass of freshly squeezed orange juice arrived with my selected breakfast, served with a cheery smile and a "Good Morning, how are we today?"

Our basic staff training module (at a brewery in an earlier career) was only about 8 hours long, two half days. It was time repaid 100 fold in the staff performance (and our sales). Such a shame that cheese-paring of budgets, or a lack of vision, hold back our state NHS provision.

Very true.
Many of the nurses and staff at the eye hospital looked like they were constantly chewing sour lemons. Just that was intimidating and scary...
It doesn't take much to give a smile or have a kind look on your face.
I do it all the time, and people respond positively like opening doors, waving me into the lift first and so on...

5.4 after a quick 10 mins on exercise bike then 1 set of 10 reps on 5 exercises on weights - but still fasted. Readings have been way off for about a month. Body seems to have decided LC is far too passé so it has taken a gap period to find itself - bless.

I had a fabulous walk with 'Plumpy' today geeful...the sun was out in force quiet in our local park...again I spent ages watching the little moorhen chicks...the ducklings will be along soon

A belated good morning all a 3.9 greeted me as I tested on the meter of doom, I will take it as have been working odd hours these past few weeks.

No, my mom now lives in a long term care home (nursing home) here in Canada, she's turning 91 shortly. She was living with my Dad in a retirement home (their own apartment, meals provided) but he could not manage her any more. He's turning 93 himself, no signs of dementia but he is getting very physically frail. My sister lives in an inaccessible home and I told the government case manager that I'm still grieving my son's death (almost 4 years ago at age 25 unexpectedly due to SUDEP) and I have a past history of clinical anxiety and depression. We also told her that we were very worried about the stress on our dad and his mental health had started to decline because of this stress. When she'd been in the hospital (as a result of broken bones due to a fall, she has very severe osteoporous), she had delirium, was confused and had wandered.

Both of my mom's parents had dementia. Her long term care home is a good one although the placement process was difficult (there aren't enough good places and wait lists are long.) She's been there over a year now and has a good friend at the same stage of Alzheimer's.

She's on the other side of the city from me but my sister and I visit her often and take our Dad to see her (he lives close but can no longer drive.) . They miss each other but he calls her every day and we call her often. She still recognizes us (early to mid stage) but we had to remove our phone numbers because she'd call 50x a night or in the early hours of the morning (my Dad fell out of bed trying to answer, luckily he didn't break anything.) . She also has some physical issues (multiple back fractures due to severe osteoporous, lactose intolerant all her life). Several days ago, she had 2 abcessed teeth removed in her room in the home by a dentist (abcessed because they broke due to the osteoporous), although she was co-operative with the dentist, it was a tough day for her (and me), I stayed with her all that day.

I empathise and sympathise with you @Chronical_Cat. Mum still lives alone in the apartment she and dad moved into 63 years ago and doesn't want to move but is very lonely and very anxious. I see her at least once a day and still do her shopping, laundry, cleaning, sort out her medical appointments etc but since her diagnosis last year we have carers going in 4 x a day for 30mins to make sure she has her food, medication etc. Unfortunately her memory is so brief she doesn't remember anyone has been so still thinks she has been alone all day. I've taken care of mum since dad and mum's best friend passed away 8 years ago. She hasn't been anywhere alone since then and relies on me ( or others) to tell her what to do. Every day brings new challenges as I'm sure you know. Sometimes it feels that no matter how hard I try I can't make things better except in the moment. Take care of yourself. Best wishes.

5.8 result of a funeral yesterday. Different food. I avoided the sandwiches completely but had 2 tiny wraps, pork pie no pastry, small squares of quiche x 2, salad, lots of pickles. Coleslaw Plenty of tea and coffee (designated driver).

Feeling very sad about Notre Dame. Watched it burn last night. Couldn't take my eyes away from the news. Paris is my favourite city and this is at the very heart of that city. Tragic to watch. But out of the ashes comes hope. A promise to rebuild. Renaissance. Thoughts are with all the people affected today.

Woke up today NOT feeling sore after my 'push it till failure' workout yesterday so I think that'll be happening more often. Noticed the fat on my body is starting to melt off. Not doing much for my weight but that'll be the density of the muscle I'm building.

Hope you're all having a good day so far and that the Easter weekend is a kind one!
