What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

A Wet miserable Sunday here in the capital.
A not too bad 5.3 for me.:D

My last day at work, so mixed emotions.
Perhaps a leaving drink, if I can push myself to go,

I expect a mixed bag tomorrow morning..:wacky:

Have a good un all, if ya can.:)
Last day at work is bound to cause mixed emotions, jjraak, but my OH summed it up in the words, " Leaving was difficult but staying away was easy". Best wishes to you and your future. :)

Reading the several posts here about convenience stops, I was thinking how much I love my catheter. I have a supra pubic catheter, and it’s so much better for me than any other continence solution I’ve tried. :D

Spent the day dodging really heavy showers - not very successfully. But as we stayed close to home with the doggy walks we were able to dry off quickly. Have escaped upstairs to the office as husband is now watching Formula One which is quite noisy. Once the Rugby finished it was so peaceful here - until the F1 started.

Another serious accident in exactly the same spot as the fatality a few weeks ago. A pedestrian was hit by a van on the A47 just a mile from us at 5.20am this morning. The road was closed for hours. The pedestrian is seriously injured and has been transferred to Addenbrooks. Really sad for the Van driver and the pedestrian. A very dangerous stretch of road for a pedestrian - especial at 5.20am.

@DJC3 and @PenguinMum - what is it with these nut butters that make them irresistible. My kryptonite is Almond butter, but peanut butter is just as bad. Just one teaspoon is never enough. So they are both now banned from the house.

I keep trying to ban almond butter but somehow the occasional jar sneaks itself into my shopping trolley. No idea how that happens.

When I had my last meal of the day, about 3 pm, it included ready to eat salmon. And this usually has the effect of reducing my blood sugars.

But immediately after I ate it I heated up (my body heated up, and sweat began pouring off my face) as though my blood sugars had risen. And I didn’t feel too good. So had a nap and got up at 6pm. I still didn’t feel good. I felt as though I had eaten a lot of sugar. But I hadn’t had any. I checked my blood sugars. They were 10. They are normally about 6.1 at 6pm. And this is what had been projected from the One Drop app from me entering the food I had eaten.

I am upset because I don’t know what has happened here. Then I realised the ready to eat salmon was from a different shop I normally buy it from. So I compared data between this new salmon to my usual salmon. The new salmon was 3 carbs for the same quantity as opposed to my regular salmon which was 1 carb for the same quantity.

Why the difference? No extra ingredients in the new salmon. But it still didn’t break my carb allowance for the day which was about 20 carbs.

The new salmon was apple smoked, but my regular salmon wasn’t.

So, I thought, oh well it will go back down if it’s own accord. I went to bed at 7pm (I usually go to bed between 7 and 9 pm because I am generally an early riser). I still didn’t feel too good.

Woke up just now at 11 pm. I thought I would check blood sugars. It was 10.5. I am thinking this is not possible. I do have a back up blood sugar monitor of a different brand (but it uses quite expensive strips), and this one came up as 9.7.

I do not understand why my blood sugar is not going down. So I went in the kitchen and cut a few small slices of hard cheese and got a few cashew nuts.

I will test again next time I wake up.

My blood sugar readings have been in range for more than 10 days now, always under 7.5 and usually in the 6’s.

Was it this new apple smoked salmon from a different shop that was the cause of this blood sugar rise? Was there some unknown sugars in it that weren’t on the label. Or did my body have a blip?

Not happy with this.

I'm guessing it's the apple smoking process that added the carbs. I believe it would add carbs to sausages. The added flavor makes a nice taste change for me for the sausages but the carbs FBG change isn't good IMO.

I thoroughly agree with you @SaskiaKC

But the apple smoking didn’t add anything special to the salmon in my opinion.

I have just woken up at 2:30 am

Taken a reading. It is now a 7 at 2:30 am. The cheese and nuts I had a few hours earlier has obviously lowered the blood sugar numbers. But it wasn’t going down by itself.

This is still a little high for 2:30 am because it is usually a 5.6 to a 6.1 for 2:30 am time of day.

But I am glad it has come down. I admit I was beginning to panic. I had gone into panic stations because I was worried my body’d had a blip.

Thanks for your input Saskia. And hugs for you.

Good Morning, I do dislike these dark mornings, a 5.2 today.

Morning...up super early today... it's Monday cold & damp & I'm off to West Bromwich hurrah!... must watch out for the bus gate/lane to avoid a repeat of my last visit. (two fines)..can't wait to get started (not)...woke to a 6.5
I'm passing through West Bromwich today to take Mrs MC to dentist so will look out for you and give you a wave as we pass.

Frightened the life out of me this morning, 10.3. Prednisolone and Amoxycyllin sure is messing me up. Day readings are in the low 6's but this is the highest I have been since diagnosis. Back at the docs today and admit I am feeling very sorry for myself, so excuse the downer.

Okay this is my earlier post about 11pm last night because I’d had a fright when my blood sugars had stayed up high for about 8 hours after having some ready to eat apple smoked salmon.

This next bit is more or less my reply to @SaskiaKC at 2:30am (I am trying to keep a continuity here so someone else can follow the whole episode in one post, if they are interested)

Okay. It’s now this morning, Monday morning, at 6am when I took my next reading. So my fbg at 6am is 7.5. It seems pretty much normal now. But I still think it is a little high. Checking back on my One Drop app my fbg seems to have been mostly in the late 6’s.

So, for some reason, it appears, this brand of apple smoked ready to eat salmon raised my blood sugars alarmingly, but what frightened me was my blood sugars did not go back down of their own accord. This particular brand of apple smoked ready to eat salmon had 3 carbs as opposed to 1 carb of my regular ready to eat salmon, for the same weight. So, the carbs in themselves are not such a big deal, but something in that brand of salmon really upset my blood sugars, and raised them.

I had planned on going out for a treat for me today and having a roast dinner (minus the roast spuds and Yorkshire pud), but I am not doing that now. I am just going to eat my food at home, so I know I should be safe. I have some raw meat I can slow cook, although that was from a different shop too. I will check for any added ingredients, although I don’t recall seeing any.

I want to get my blood sugars back totally to my normal, and I have been very good at being able to control them with this One Drop app.

There has been a clear night last night, with beautiful twinkling stars, Dawn was lovely to watch, and now (at least for first thing) there are clear blue skies as the sun is getting out of bed. I shall be out there pretty soon. I have already had black coffee and some nuts. But I might have my cooked protein breakfast early today, like now when I have posted this (I think I might just have eggs), because up to now a cooked breakfast has always reduced my blood sugars.

Have a good day
Hugs for those who need hugs
Take care

Morning all. 5.7 today so outside my wriggle room for claiming control. 6 Mondays of chemo ahead when the support of a good WOE would be ideal. This one chooses to collude with another enemy to attack joints, constipate and deliver sub-optimal sleep for last 5 months. Obviously, I thank God for the treatment and care I have had already and will receive over the coming weeks. It would be dishonest not to make clear the major, (unique?), obstacles LCHF seems to place in my way. Now is very much the time for LC to start delivering again - it stopped about 13 months ago. Timely verse in Psalm 30 today: O Lord my God, I cried out to you and you have healed me. Enjoy your day and keep muggering on (or something like that Winston)
Just in: Enough with the hugs already. I'm more of an action this day kinda idiot.

Oh boy.
Yes that is a fright.
I would feel that way on this unexpected high blood sugars.
It really does set us back emotionally.
It is scary.
Hugs for you.

@OldButBold equally sorry to hear about the effects of the meds on your bg. Hope the doc can help in some way.

Thank you both. Several cups of coffee and a shower have left me at 7.2, which is better than nothing. Seems we are all in the wars lately so best wishes to everyone.
