Dinner. Bigger than it looks. Brunch was smoked salmon and cream cheese. A bit too much Moser Roth 85% during the day.

Stomach very sore and nauseous again
ok not recommending this but years ago i had a stomach bug that wouldn't shift did the whole no dairy (now i think debunked) and fasting etc etc. Finally out with my mum at a pub, landlord prescribed port and brandy (mum prone to oversharing!). fixed. probably coincidence but i'll never know :)

As usual, your meat looks fabulous. Was it in the AF?
I've just ordered some lamb's hearts, ox cheeks and lamb neck from my butcher. In for some slow cooking over the weekend and next week.

Yes, air fried. Keeps it nice and moist but crisps the fat up nicely. Thickest Barnsley chop I found in Waitrose. I love oxcheek.

Interesting thought. I'm teetotal and have never been able to take anything alcoholic without a peg on my nose. On the odd occasion when I have been forced to accept alcohol (rather than be discourteous), people have waited to see some startling reaction in me, but have been disappointed, except for seriously sore stomach (not what they were looking for). Pretty well all the members of my family are made ill by alcohol and tend to avoid it these days. I actually still have an (opened) bottle of sherry, bought for my husband several years ago and never consumed. Not sure what to do with it. It still sits in splendid isolation at the back of my larder.

This looks great thank you. I did search the BBC good food app as I’ve found they are usually reliable recipes and often easily low carbed. Didn’t see this one though.
Sorry to hear you’ve been off again. Is it your legs?
Legs & sinuses which is causing mild breathlessness. Thankfully it's not lasting now but the BGs take a few days to revert. I got a new one though. Upper arms were agony but paracetamol took care of that until it disappeared. I've discovered it's better just to do little things and build up gradually even if I do feel OK.

ah... port’n’brandy there’s a blast from the past :D

today:
B: Bovril and collagen, lc hot choc
L: didn’t bother
D: the aforementioned salmon in horseradish cream. OMG. Divine. The recipe said use garlic and basil in the pan with the salmon. Of course that was too much phaff. So I baked the salmon and added crushed garlic and basil to the horseradish cream (sour cream and mayo combo). Worked so well that Mr B switched his supper choice from goulash to salmon. The rest of the salmon is cooling now, ready to be mashed into the rest of the horseradish cream. mr B is plotting to swipe it for a lodough wrap. Only if I don’t get there first!

today for supper spiralized courgette and pesto. my friend gave me the spiralizer as a present I should have got one ages ago, it's great.

Just be careful cleaning it @copilost . I have spilled blood virtue of a spiraliser, and they're so sharp and nicks bleed profusely.

Ewwww I don't like rats either. Getting rid of rats and/or deterring them was a constant battle when I used to keep the poultry.

We've lived here 20 years and in that time I've known five (smallish) dogs be killed by adders and quite a few bigger dogs that have been bitten so its always been a worry that one of mine might be bitten while out on a walk. I understand the anti venom is quite effective but the nearest vet that carries it is about 15 miles away and the dog would be in dreadful pain until it has the anti venom and recovery isn't quick. They are supposed to be timid but at this time of the year they lie in coils on paths basking in the sun or rest in undergrowth and will bite if a nosey dog startles them.

Because of the adders my husband gets up to walk the dogs at about 4am (when they are less active) then comes back to bed for another few hours sleep. It sounds mad but he prefers to do that than take the risk.

This has really shocked me. I’d never thought of snakes when I take Dennis out. I’m usually scanning the ground and undergrowth for rotting rodent corpses which attract him like a magnet, but now I’ll have to add adders to the scanning. Crikey! ( I’m not getting up at 4am though)

Can’t believe how long this has been going on - you must be exhausted with all the relapsing.

Don't worry!! You would probably already know if you live in an area that has adders (they aren't everywhere in the country - mainly moorland I think). Its pretty much the first thing I was told by other dog walkers when we first moved here and the first thing we tell other new dog walkers we meet (because its a big deal here). Adder time for here is end of April until late September.

I was SO proud of myself last night - after a poor FBG start yesterday of 10.7 it very slowly went down throughout the day with a slight blip up a 1.2 just BEFORE dinner went back down after dinner ending up with a bedtime BG of 4.6. My liver obviously decided it doesn't like my BGs being 'so low' because 'helpfully' it gave me an early morning boost up to 10.8 today!! Its like Groundhog Day!

Today:

Breakfast: omelette with carb free syrup (banana flavour)
Lunch: trying to do without
Dinner: the rest of yesterday's fennel, goats cheese and black olive crustless quiche with a green salad with a basalmic vinegar and 'fruity' olive oil dressing

I was surprised at how nice this quiche was yesterday but that might have had something to do with being absolutely starving at the time I ate it.

Soup for breakfast after FBG of 5.8 - that's good for me but by the time I got to breakfast, it was 8.8. Currently 9.5. And worse, it may be too many veg. I'm beginning to feel it.

Might have 3 meals today. If so, lunch will be scrambled eggs and dinner will be mushrooms with some bacon. Unfortunately my v shopper bought smoked streaky bacon this week and smoked is something I don't usually like (except fish) but I'll make something of it to get it used up.

I wonder if my continuing fatigue is something to do with covid still hanging on, or if it is something else that needs to be dealt with. I still seem to be spending about 6 hours a night asleep and another 4 or so during the day.
Fatigue is one of the continuing themes in the long term group I found on Facebook. There's over 7000 of them and almost all are still affected even 18 & 19 weeks on. It was interesting to note that the majority also fell ill in March - pre lockdown. It was also there that I noticed attempting to do things too quickly resulted in another relapse. More reassuring though is members do fully recover and leave the group.

I am. It gets very trying. The one bit of relief is the relapses are getting shorter. I must admit though there have been days I could just sit down and cry.

Monday bed 7.9 FBG 8.2. Still got the morning surge but it went back to normal levels about lunchtime. Felt better during the day but felt "off" again later at night.
B. Slice LC toast with ham and coleslaw. TAG.
L. Nothing we went off to Dobbies & Lakeland. Eased my legs a bit if nothing else.
D. Parmesan chicken wings with sour cream & chives. A few veggie chips. I confess! 2 bits of Godiva.

The effects of my mistake with pills yesterday haven't been as startling as I thought. Sore, of course, and sleepless as a result, but not too bad otherwise.

Made another mistake today though.

Breakfast was 2 soft boiled eggs - very nice, large local eggs, bright orangey-yellow yolks.

I decided that the floors in this house just couldn't go another day before sweeping/vacuuming/washing, so I set to this morning. Got the sweeping and vacuuming done by lunchtime but couldn't do any more. Then came my mistake. I looked to see what was in the cupboard to give me a boost without too much effort (no energy left) and found a tin of Heinz cream of tomato soup. Haven't had that in years but it made me think back to the weekend lunch my father would make when my mother was at work. So I heated it and had it. Within minutes, I was feeling sick, bloated and hot enough to be in a sauna. I know it has sugar and "modified starch" in it, but I didn't expect that!

Might not have anything else today.

Well, the recipes in this book are still as delicious as I remember!

Tonight was chicken in white wine, tarragon, Dijon mustard and cream. Delish!

B: the usual Bovril, hot choc and collagen powder.
L: didn’t happen

May toy with a LC choc brownie later... maybe...
