When my mother eloped with my dad he disowned her and didn't want to know us until I got polio. He did become very close to my dad in the end and died when I was 12. He taught me so many things, from how fascism was very bad to pornography! He gave me a pen that had a picture of a lass in a bathing suit, when you turned it upside down her suit would disappear :wideyed:;)

To my eternal shame I remember those pens. I'm not sure how to rate that post between winner and hug. Hinner? O/T lass is never a word used in this region - took me a few seconds to translate to Fenish. I'm a bilingual illiterate.
 
Morning...lots of late nights or rather early morning bedtimes recently...finally got a decent sleep last night a whole seven hours luxury... next door are having their garden landscaped so lots of coming & going curtains closed...shadowy figures walking to & fro rather like Plato's Cave I had to write an essay on that as a student it was a nightmare...definitely more coffee necessary...I suspect the cats will be in & out so no chance of the sofa & Netflix without being interrupted...woke to a 6.5...keep safe everyone.

I was less fortunate, mine was an essay on Nietzsche's interpretation of Plato's cave and how Plato was deluding the masses :( I became far more supportive of Jung :)
 
Somewhat non PC headline and a genuinely 1st world problem, especially when one considers who is Commander in Chief - but made me chuckle all the same. The story highlights some interesting issues though. Locally, poultry processing is big business and has caused a major spike recently.

A quick trip to the chemist then feet up likely some Netflix...had some eco logs delivered yesterday have lots of kindling & coal...if I do get my chores done them may light the fire sit back relax & let the world pass me by for a couple of hours.
 
7.4 consistent ( in the 7's ) if nothing else but then I'm not really low carbing and from friday no gym for a few weeks as we enter a full lockdown in Wales .Still lucky that I have a job that is secure and so do the rest of my household .

The ability to visit a large number of locations / people..or more pathological?

Have read that blood type O..normally rated as more susceptible to infections, actually has some defensive properties re covid.

Could those with type O, be less hindered by covid yet more prone to spreading it..
Or maybe another blood type, perhaps.

All conjecture until tested out of course, but just seems to show the more we see of covid, the more there is to learn.

Well, I went into my bank with the head gear you saw yesterday. The bank has never seen me in that hat with the plastic round it, nor the sunflower snood. So why did the cashier at the counter take down her mask, smile at me, and say "Hello, Mrs MyName, how are you today?"....

A seaside village quite near here called Staithes has a beck running through it and a foot bridge connecting both sides down by the lifeboat station. One side is in North Yorkshire and the other in Redcar and Cleveland. Confusion reigns as each county is on a different covid tier. I can’t see the problem - just figure out which pub is open.

In other news it seems that young Master Macron has been bullying in the playground because nobody likes him any more since he started brandishing his fishing rods. His teacher, Mrs Merkel, has given him a sharp slap on the leg and told him to behave or he and his Italian gangster pals will spoil the euro.

Anyhow, here is a go at Robin Hoods Bay. Hope you all have a spiffingly good pre-bin day - don’t forget to stock up on tins of spam and sardines. Time for koffy.

@gennepher I also remember both. One of my joys as a child (and teenager) was getting roast potatoes and chestnuts from the stall near the market. The trains stations and goods yards were regular haunts as my grandfather was a train driver and would take me to see 'interesting' (his word) steam trains. I still remember going inside the first diesel loco at Tysley yard, he hated them as they 'had no soul' :)

I am not a happy bunny.
My parcel of a lot of different things from Amazon which cost a bit. It was to save me going to the shops, and included cat food. And was due to be delivered tomorrow, has now being returned to Amazon as UNDELIVERED. How come? Because it has not even got to me yet.

So I check the tracking, and apparently it was turned away from the Liverpool Amazon facility as undeliverable.

No more info than that.

Apparently I have to wait until the parcel gets back to Amazon before they refund my money, and this could take 7 days.

I needed some of the things in the parcel. So, what do I do now?

Order again now straight away and hope I get the stuff? Or say to myself there is something rotten in the state of Denmark and even our home deliveries are being diverted so we don't get them?

Something wrong here...

Because it has knocked my confidence in the reliability of parcels.
You think I should try ordering the stuff one more time?

I don't see why they cannot send a replacement parcel of goods.
And I don't see why I have to wait a week for my account to be refunded.

If they had said the parcel was damaged in transit before it got to their facility, then I could accept that. Accidents happen.

Edit : I've just ordered half the stuff again. The rest I will go out tomorrow and go to several shops and get. It includes cat food. And I need to drive further than I would be allowed to drive when the Firebreak lockdown happens in Wales on Friday. I want to avoid a fine. Welsh police can be trigger happy....So, tomorrow to get cat food and stuff.

On a slightly similar note @gennepher

One wristband was "claimed" delivered.
It was a work address, clearly open for trading,
So I queried it rather forcefully .( You'll know how THAT excitement can get you, if you ever bid on ebay..and watched that last minute countdown)
It then got " damaged, returned to sender"
Mmhh..

The anticipation lasted for 10 more days until they sent replacement.
he wristband when it actually came was boxed securely AND had outer wrapper to protect it

But on the bright side Amazon did return cash and said this one is on us.

Worth making a fuss sometimes
 
It was weird this morning at the shops and bank. It was like the Black Plague had descended. Everywhere was deserted, even the roads had very little traffic, and this Firebreak lockdown, which is on top of the current one, has not begun yet, at least not until Friday 6pm.

Then when I came out of the Post Office, I found someone had tried to wrench my car handle. The driver's handle had been pulled right out and twisted a bit. I couldn't unlock the car. Then I managed to bang it in again with my hand. And I could unlock the car. It is working but it is not quite right. But the car dealership is in England just over that border. It does lock. It is a new car from last Xmas. I will send them an email and see what happens.

Then as I am taking my bags out of the car, a man drives up in a blue transit transit van and parks at the end of my driveway. But it is not for me, but for next door, my horrid neighbour. I wasn't interested, until I saw the guy, dressed in everyday clothes, push the parcel in the letterbox, but carefully positioned himself to video the whole process until the black plastic, with a white label on, had gone right into the letter box. He didn't just take a photo, he took this long slow video. I am less than 8 feet away from, so I can see what he is doing.

Weird.

So I reached in my car to get the next bag out, but the man in the blue transit van stopped at the next house over the road. Again there were no cars parked in the driveway (my neighbour was not in either), but the guy never tried to ring or knock. And I watched him again, position himself (it was like he was positioning himself to relieve himself against a tree, It looked so odd I had to watch), so he could hold both his phone with one hand, and push the black plastic (again) package into the letterbox and videoed himself pushing it slowly into the letterbox until it had gone right in.

What the heck was that he was delivering that was so important that he videoed it slowly pushing it all the way in.

Then he drove out of the road...
