What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

@RFSMarch I am also feeling technologically smug today. Have always been annoyed that my fitbit records lots of steps when I am travelling in the car. Today I Googled how to fix it. Followed the instructions and now the driving time is logged as driving time so no steps recorded which is brilliant as the drive to Sheringham Park today is through lots of winding country roads that always log up lots of steps.

Good morning everyone from a far too early start here in the dark and dangerous north - woke at 4, drat.

The wonder wheel of some pulled pork (well rillettes de porc really) and a couple of eggs with some mushrooms came in at 4.8 this am.

I used to love listening to Alistair Cooke. My letters from America now come from my sister - mainly zoom calls, text messages and photos. She, her husband and two small children (she is over 30 years younger than me) live in Arkansas, having moved there from Texas before covid for work and it’s where she and her husband grew up. Now, no jobs, furlough is just another word for unemployed with little or no safety net and trying to convince people that wearing a mask and social distancing is not an infringement of there constitutional rights is a losing battle. We are helping as much as we can. We have been to the USA many times and love the places and people that we have met but it’s selective snapshots. We once spent some time with a homeless veteran and his wife on Coney Island - an ex Marine - and I thought it was bad enough here in the UK. Land of the free - my ar*e - land of the polarised and controlled more like it. Oh! Sorry - I’m beginning to rant - hope you won’t be offended.

On a lighter note - I did manage to put one tree up yesterday without any supervision - today, my plan is to trim the tree (do we still say “trim the tree”) - sadly I fear that some supervision may be exerted so perhaps I should get on with it while my carer is still practicing laps for the Olympic sleeping team. Have a wonderful day if you can. Todays picture is made up of a melange of memories around the Marmolade in The Dolomites - more koffy needed.

It's a bad country to be poor in and even worse to be poor and sick in. We've not been since the 90s, after me having cancer in 2003.
We saw men waiting at the traffic lights with notices round their necks, saying I am hungry and I need work.
I knew a woman on a forum once who had very painful adhesions from a botched operation but didnt have any money to get it sorted and was suffering terribly.
Yet the right wing are incensed that anyone should get free health care.
They claim to be so God oriented but negate their claims by lack of compassion.
Of course they are not all like that but they do seem difficult to fathom when they discuss health care.

I'm posting bigly today. Anyhow, the poem today is an excerpt from The Ballad of the white horse by G K Chesterton which is available here in full. The section today was from Book 4 - for context, basically the famous burning the cakes event - starting
"And well may God with the serving-folk" and ending "That, labouring, lifts the world." Similar theme - serving in the background to yesterday. Also pertinent to the key workers/ those we really rely upon theme and ideas touched upon earlier by @lindisfel. I like that this links to The Last Kingdom which I really enjoyed and never having read the whole poem I shall research the quality or young Jamesons' product and read it all. Not exactly a suffering servant but there ya go.
Thank you, another book on my shelf that I have neglected, that's a fine section, enjoy studying the rest with young Jameson. I will read on with my Old Pulteney. :)

Seems poetry is inspirational today..I came across a Haiku poem not sure by whome. A few evenings back a white flash of an Owl made Mrs MC and I jump startled as it swooped over the hedge when out walking Moet so this poem inspired tonights scribble...

No painting, can't get in my Art Studio. We have too much furniture our Kitchen Pine Dresser, Table and Chairs, Church Bench and the Hall Victorian Rose Wood Table are all piled in the access or in my studio, going to be a long week until floor is fitted.
I love your pencil sketches @Muddy Cyclist I find them hopeful and uplifting. I think because it is black and white so to speak, my imagination can add its own bits to it.
That haiku is a lovely one.

Good Morning and 5.9 for me today.

Floor fitter arriving to lay the board ready for new floor. Now we have boxes of Parquet stacked in dinning room and no room to move so we hope he can get back to lay them later in the week.

Keep safe. Time rolls on.

Fbg 6.1

My project yesterday was further working on The Great Wall between me and Mr Insensitive, the back garden bit where his security light does the beam me up Scotty scene several times a night. Why it has to be pointed towards my garden and bedroom window, I will never know. He has had several security light in the past each one more brighter and intrusive than the other (yes, I now know I can get Environmental Health on to this, but past experiences with him, and because of his obtuseness and horrid derogatory behaviour to me over the years, I feel it will cause me more hassle than good).

My temporary bamboo idea with the cut tall bamboo with loads of leaves worked pretty well against his Christmas lights lighting up my bedroom like the Blackpool Illuminations. I did have loads of bamboo that did need cutting down anyway, so that was win win for me. What I ended up doing was using the poles and stands which have my parasols in...yes I bought those also to keep my privacy from Mr prying eyes Insensitive who would look over the wall at me in a sneering way (he used to taunt my wee little Hearing Dog Meg when I was not in the garden and get her into a barking frenzy. I caught him oneday at it....), and tying the bamboo to those poles and placing them near my bedroom door window, and it was successful in keeping his Xmas flashing lights from my bedroom.

Many years ago, when I first moved here, there was a washing line between my bedroom door window and Mr Insensitive's two security lights, one is above his kitchen door and lights up his back garden as bright as daylight, and then there is the bright one above his garage which is literally on top of my bedroom door window. And I put two sheets on the washing line, and left them permanently there. That worked too. But wind and time stole those sheets, but I had more old sheets the previous homeowner had left. So that lasted a few years. Then no more sheets left. Then I built various ideas to keep his security lights at bay, and his Xmas lights, but the wind is very strong here coming directly from the sea, and is destructive.

So we now come to today. The security lights are brighter than ever, and so are his Xmas lights more intrusive than ever. So, hence The Great Wall. It has been in the planning for a week, while I was working on the grotto outside the bathroom window to keep those multicoloured flashing Xmas lights at bay from the bathroom.

I have a Bay tree, which J bought me any years ago. It has grown through the willow tree on the other side of my property to Mr Insensitive. And I noticed it was swaying far too much in the strong winds. So, I investigated before it could come down in the high winds and cause damage on that side. It was much taller than I thought it was. So, I decided to cut it down, but left a metre or so at the base. Then, once it was down, I found the reason for it swaying. The trunk of the bay tree had been rubbing against the willow trunk, and had worn more than half the Bay tree's trunk away, making it very unstable. Then I saw there were another half a dozen new Bay trees growing from the base, they are about a metre tall, so I didn't feel unhappy any more about cutting down J's Bay tree.

So I had about a 4 metre tall cut Bay tree with loads of branches and leaves. My idea yesterday was to place it in an old broken wheelie bin (lid was broken so I got sent a new one but they never took the old one away, which I wasn't initially pleased about, but am now delighted because I had a huge 'plant pot' to hold this cut Bay tree. I was working yesterday on how to stabilise it. And I needed more cut trees to further this Great Wall either side the cut Bay tree. I had already cut some down a few weeks ago, and was wondering what to do/dispose of them. I had to wonder no more. They went on either side of the Bay tree, to increase the length of The Great Wall. But before they went up, I decorated them in green and blue thick tinsel. Then I found I had enough to weave the thick tinsel in and out of these bare branches. Thus creating a barrier.

But I didn't put it up until dusk when Mr Insensitive would not be able to see as I was doing it...

I anchored and wedged the wheelie bin so it will be stable, and filled it with water. I don't have enough stones and rocks for ballast for a huge black wheelie.

I have no idea what The Great Wall looks like in daylight. But it was a success for me. Not one bit of light from the flashing Xmas lights came through to my bedroom door window, nor did one scrap of his security lights come through either into my bedroom.

SUCCESS!

I know the sea wind will have a field day eventually, and so I have two back up plans.
1. I have ivy and honeysuckle which is very virulent and will be planting those today, to grow over it.
2. Second back up plan, which may have to be an interim measure while ivy and honeysuckle grow, is a length of washing line I bought a couple of days ago (I don't use a washing line any more, I cannot reach up to hang washing), and some black cheap shower curtains. The washing line will go up and the shower curtains looped on to it, and drawn at night between me and Mr Insensitive, should they be needed as light protection, while the ivy and honeysuckle grow.

I had done my digital painting for this morning, but put the iPad down for a moment, and Popeye leapt on it and was scrabbling the screen with his soft paw pads (claws sheathed) furiously. He has discovered that he can do things to the screen, and he created his own painting on top of mine. This is not the first time he has done this to my painting. And I had forgotten to save as I went along :(

I cannot wait until dawn...

5.3 this morning. Coffee drunk and now need to get ready for dog walk. Very foggy out at the moment.

Our walk around Sheringham Park was lovely yesterday. We love seeing our favourite places through the seasons. Yesterday there was a sea mist so we couldn't see the sea from the viewing points but it made the area feel mystical and atmospheric.

Art and poetry - what a talented bunch and makes me a little ashamed to be some random sports-jock and hack with no artistic capability whatsoever! I remember being totally captivated at school by the war poems of Wilfred Owen and I actually have an old book of war-poetry that I picked up while nosing around old books stores with a friend who was an English teacher.

Morning Swipey - 7.2 ➡️ - Not at all surprising. By the time I got back from 4 hours out on a course, freezing and knackered I opted for a quick run to the store and got a pack of super noodles, and had a piece of Kingsmill 50/50 toast with marmalade having not eaten since the morning before I set off. Also had a cherry wheat beer while nattering to my best mate in our regular FaceTime on a Sunday.
Next time TAKE SNACKS Rozzington-Bear!

Still - it is in the green so I am not too worried but I totally underestimated all the other things that comes with two straight days of golf. The Oaks course is hilly and having lugged a trolley up and down, I have a bit of neck ache and had a bit of a headache during the night.
It was great to be back out there in the fresh air! Unfortunately today is going to be 'clean clubs and shoes' day! The good news is the new boot cover for the car which extends when the seats are down did it's job nicely keeping the mud off the car's innards.

Cave-dweller is up. So will wait for him to go to work and then will do my knee rehab and workout. It was so muddy and slippery out on the courses and despite having knee braces on, my left knee in particular was a bit locky and grindy! It might be better to swap out the treadmill for the spin bike this morning.

Need to make the effort of taking my blood pressure more regularly. Have been on Candesartan 8mg for a while as my BP was high (mum had high BP) but as part of my continued 'stop rattling when I walk' project, I wonder whether I will ever get to a stage when I can come off those too. I know I may never fully come of diabetes meds, but I still think I can/should reduce as much as possible.

Have a great day everyone

Some Epic posts already. @RFSMarch wonderful turn of phrase: cave dweller and Rozzington Bear. Ever thought of being a journo?:angelic: @gennepher Epic tale of how to overcome the forces of - well, certainly not darkness but, evil. Bravo The Genster. @Muddy Cyclist #prayfortheFlooringman and good work on the Old Pulteney research but remember to keep it on the QT. Swipey relayed a tale of 4.4ishness this very winter's day. Pinch of salt (Veruca?), trust issues and dislike of winter aside what a good day yesterday was. Splendid video call with S'oton branch; tracked down local Fen Cekery:) and pwopper stick of sprouts (with a frost on 'em) @alf_Josiah; mini Manchego acquired via Waitrose; Electrican does exist, has made contact and promises to be here Wednesday to resolve niggles. Spurs win NLD and Mr Jameson knows his stuff. Today a man is putting up a new fence between me and a nice lady called Steph - good fences make good neighbours Mr Bobby Frost says. The cute L'il gal in Saturday's image is with us all day:woot::woot:. With much prayer, your help and Lionel Blue's dictum - don't take it so heavy deary- plus Malcolm Guite's Advent poems the semblance of a deal, which recognises my sovereignty, twixt me and LCHF outside purely mackerel and avocado salad is in sight. This is still where I'm at with this WOE (Eerily May like - nothing has changed):
If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Luke 11:11-13…Phew.

Morning...after a challenging week I decided I should put the tree & decorations up...all up now although it took most of my day as I did it so reluctantly...hoping my Christmas spirit will return at some point before Christmas as there will be visitors (numbers limited) so I have to make an effort...since the negative covid test my cold has now gone into full swing more Lemsip Max capsules arrive yesterday ...no FBG today having a couple of days off...more coffee brewing...keep safe.

Thank you @ianpspurs

Just been out. The Great Wall looks just fine and dandy from my point of view... ;)

Back up plan number 3 has just been formulated. Because ivy and honeysuckle although fast growing, may not achieve what I need by the time (for light barrier protection) the bay leaves shrivel and the wind steals the tinsel, then Russian Vine is the answer. Just sourced two Russian Vine plants on eBay. Russian Vine covered the walls and roof of my last house (It was already there when I bought the house), so I am very aware how fast it grows. I would be in the bath watching the tendrils grow through the open bathroom window and actually twine together as I was watching from my soap suds...

You have a great day...

Good morning everyone from another seasonal damp squib of a start in the dark and dangerous north
The wonder wheel of moules-frites came in a not unexpected 6.2 this am - nice though, Mrs Miggins had yearnings for a lunch at a restaurant in Arromanches.

Boxes and boxes and boxes and boxes - contents now adorning every nook and cranny - red, white, green, silver, gold and on and on. More battery powered light strands than Blackpool. May that be enough. Daughter arriving this morning - murmurations of garden centres - may not be enough after all.

@Muddy Cyclist - great event inspired sketch and haiku - is this the shape of things to come during parquet week?
@gennepher - inspired waterfall - love the colours and the poem.

Small sketch today, 6 x 3 on a bit of rice paper which I think is actually made of bamboo fibres. One of the boats in the park has capsized against an island in the lake - nice fishing spot. Hope everyone has a good day. RIP Peter Alliss. Time for my koffy.

Pwopper meal that one. Now, get thee to that garden centre - let those moths out of yer femto second exposure wallet. I'm with Mrs Miggins on this one:angelic:

Mr K is very happy - Rugby this afternoon and whisky tonight. I never know whether it should be whisky or whiskey.

Just remembered a very funny incident when children were young. We went to a friend's sisters wedding and let daughters have just one sip of champagne. Mr K was driving so he didn't even have one sip of champagne as he was driving.

A few weeks later I was at a parents evening at youngest daughters school. I was horrified to read her account of the day in one of her school books. 'Daddy got drunk and I had whisky '.

When I questioned her she said that she couldn't spell champagne which was why she wrote whisky. it's funny to look back on it now but at the time I was mortified that her teacher must have read it.
Whiskey - probably only now used by the Irish. Some scots still use the letter ‘e’ but it seems to have been dropped by the makers - are they trying to save ink or just copying the Japanese. Goes back to the 1800’s when Scotch was not that good compared to Irish - so they had a fancy ‘e’ - still included in American. I think that’s right.

Thank you. Obviously they are saving the ink.
