Good morning everyone from Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and dangerous north
The wonder wheel of grilled chicken and the last of the current lot of salads came in at 4.8 this am

Yesterday’s snow did not linger after pressure from a thumping of rain and the salt ladened air from the sea. Further along the coast it has remained. As with previous years, this white stuff came as some surprise to many people who then took photographs of it and posted on social media with phrases like “OMG” and “look, it’s snowing” - such simple things bringing a bit of cheer - not if you are trying to drive to work in the middle of the frosty night though - “wish we still had that old landrover.”

TV in the front room is playing hard to get. Looks like something is wrong with the remote sensor as it is continually flashing - batteries changed in remotes - same fault - looks like I may have to take the back off and see if I can clean the sensor - what could possibly go wrong? Still, I could always apply to go on that program “The Repair Shop”.

Art for Sunday - an island with a few boats - get down there, the water is brilliant. Hope everyone still has hold of their sanity. Time for koffy.

Have a great Sunday everyone.
We are still in bed at 0823....that is truly decadent. :) But its cold outside. :)

Gennepher, if your looking in I was thinking about your art work we all enjoy so much.
Hope you are blessed in this new year.

Swipey's last stand for this 14 day spell: 4.4 ➡️
I tried the courgette strips with my pad see ew but forgot that courgette shrinks to about the size of a postage stamp so next time use a LOT more but it was yummy.

Today will be using my Lakeland Remoska for a roast chicken breast, veggies, some sage and onion and gravy. Just 'cos it's Sunday.

Finishing off some trading homework - wow if we think sometimes participation in THIS forum can be... terse... from some (eg the carnivores or the keto-at-all-costs brigade), then I recommend giving tennis fan forums and trading forums a complete miss!

I cleaned the mud off my golf shoes, collated at the start of December in days where we were allowed to roam golf courses on packs (well three of us)... and I came to conclusion I would have had less mess if I had gone out, bought a puppy, took it for a walk in Richmond Park and let it roll around in the mud all day before coming home and shaking it off in the conservatory!

Today's task when I can be bothered to get out of bed is clean the golf clubs, decamp clubs and still packaged net and mat for practice to the bomb shelter until this infernal rain stops.

Then films and lounging on the couch all day for one last day before Operation Make Website Make Money and FIND A JOB starts in earnest on Monday.
Ah yes - courgettes do have a nasty habit of shrinking - I do more than I think and then either sprinkle with salt and put in a colander to get out some liquid or lay on a tray in a warm oven for a while for the same reason - not sure which I prefer. I have looked at those Romeska pans in Lakeland with my “ooh!, that’s a good looking gadget - I want one, I want one” - but then I think that I probably have far too many things already and I suppose that my all in one crock pot would be fed up if it had competition.

Good Morning and 6.1 for me today and I know why, Christmas cake, a very small slice and custard for desert last night. Now who's crazy idea was that? :banghead:

A day of much the same as other days of late, no Muddy Cycle ride, still too much hidden ice, so walks, music, art, wood chopping and Chestnut Roasting.

Day three the year is silently rushing on, already I feel I'm behind on things I intended to get done, must make more effort.

Find something marvellous in your day. Keep safe.

Greetings all and peace be with you. I have already learned what a Remoska is (thanks Rosington Bear aka @RFSMarch) , what @lindisfel considers decadent , been reminded of OMD by @dunelm. and cheered by @karen8967 's upbeat poster/meme. There is an abundance of sport to watch later - so far. so good. My Swipey fbg was 4.9 @6.07 today only the waking time pleased me. Now the Robert Frost dilemma. From this close one can drive left for 5 minutes and be in deepest, heavily wooded Breckland or right and be in very Fenny Fenland in the same time. I'm obviously at home turning right. The Fens are famous for fog and I seem to be engulfed in a fog of where now? Today's plan was for roast beef, Yorkshire pudding made with this (cooked under the meat as that is how I really enjoy Yorkshire) , roast veggies and some of the wine from the opened sources or just open some more. Scales and fbg suggest I turn left and fast then upset Julie and negate the plan of finally having something akin to a Christmastide celebration. Sundays are feast days, all the advent poetry is about hope, trust and kenosis. I need to turn left, deal prayerfully with tomorrow morning and reprogram the sat nav another day when it less foggy. Pip Pip old toots.

I have a slow cooker my mother sent me off to uni with that made many a packet chilli con carne in my life! But the Remoska supposedly uses less electricity than the oven and if my hopeless nPower meter home meter had lasted more than 5 minutes, I could have done a direct comparison. But for a single portion of chicken, veggies etc it seems to do the trick quite nicely although I do use the oven for One-Pan Bakes so maybe I might use it for that too.

I did wonder about the salt for the courgettes. I left them on a paper towel for a bit to get rid of some of the moisture but will also try them with a quick grind of salt next time.

@ianpspurs Weird - I can't reply to your post without it throwing up some suspicious browser check.

That flour looks good - do you have to make many tweaks to it to use with existing recipes because I remember trying to sub in almond and/or coconut flour where I usually had normal flour and it always was a total disaster.

We have never used the flour before. Another road not travelled at all. In general I'm not a fan of surprises. The meat may be seen as indulgent - 2 rib piece of beef for 2 people so quite +£s - but we genuinely don't feel the taste from smaller pieces does justice to the farmer's skill much less the animal which gave its life for our meal - leaving aside the wonder and mystery of creation. Which is more wasteful - small, cheap, awful and not really even fit for the dogs or bigger, tastier, all used eventually but eaten with joy and humble thanks? So hopefully the flour doesn't spoil things. Bit of a gamble not trying a Yorkshire on something we were less invested in - when did that become a thing?

Will we ever be allowed to visit such places again? Nice colour wash and feeling of space and emptiness.

Do let us know how they turn out because apart from fathead dough... I have just cut down the portion sizes I use for usual flour to navigate the inevitable spike from using it, and I try and use Spelt flour but sometimes you can't avoid the stuff so I have to work around it and if, for example, I use the Remoska for a toad in the hole, I try and be ultra low carb during the day to accommodate it in my 100-150g self-imposed limits.

I belong to a My Fitness Pal group and they had a very useful thread about what LCHF was NOT and if anyone raises an eyebrow about what my carby-grams were in a day I point out that 'Lower-Carb' is STILL better than what I calculated a normal day would have been which was anywhere upwards of 250g. Sure there are some over-zealous types there but... I always say... if swipey is largely in the green over a day... then I am ok, so ... on your way. Oooh I'm a poet and I didn't know it!

Slice your raw courgettes at an angle. Toss in seasoned flour if not on LCHF. Shallow fry both sides fast in hot oil to get some colour. Season to taste. Optional sprinkling of Parmesan cheese. Serve. (Call them Zucchini. Pretentious? Moi?)

Nice - I usually use courgettes to replace pasta or noodles hence getting moisture out of them

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen. Thanks for all tips on marrows and the preparation thereof.

Here a 7.1 on that meter and an intense workout is planned for me and me's . Mrs J has decided that she, Mrs J will be taking the decorations down, which translates to I will be taking them down, climbing stepladders and carrying boxes and boxes and yet more boxes up stairs.

Have a great day fellow posters, painters and gamers.

Mrs J has taken up painting stones......

I will let you know how it goes. Having tried Yorkshire and toad in the hole a few times this is a last chance really. I like Yorkshire cooked under a beef joint so the drippings form a soft area. I can't abide crusty dry Yorkshire - like eating cardboard. Like many things in LCland I find the trade off between taste and bg reflects badly on taste and pleasure - invalidates the wonder of creation. Most of the swaps - cuali rice, courgetti etc utterly fail my taste test. Early on I kidded myself things were ok - won't lie now. I respect and accept all those who enjoy the swaps. If I ever see good results I will obviously totally revise my opinions in a heartbeat.:angelic:
