What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

I am addicted to Marks and Spencer Peanut butter - mixed in with yoghurt and berries. Yum. Good BG!

Not the greatest PB fan, but i do find it pleasant.

the missus however...:wideyed:

hoovers up PB so much she banned ME buying it as a larder treat for her, she couldn't keep her hands of it.

so i've had the same or similar combo's you suggest using Whole Earth PB..nice.

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen on this blustery Saturday.

A perplexing 4.5 on that meter of mystery and whatever.
Steam powered electric sliderule, log tables, wet finger in the air, tea bag reading and good old guessing to calculate my insulin dosage this morning.

Well fellow posters, painters and gamers today is another day of wonder and to be enjoyed. I wonder if me and me's will be allowed to enjoy myself, possibly hiding in my shed / workshop listening to the radio.

Now I must depart to the kitchen to make a life preserving mug of tea for Mrs J and hence preserve my life.

As usual all the stay's.

Aw mate, that's Low.

do feel for all the calculus required
must make tom hanks's Apollo 13 and all its slide rules rather boring for T1's

Enjoy the Man cave day..

That's fab. It reminds me of an old song from the Alan Parsons Project...Don't Let It Show...no idea why...but I just played it and stared at your great painting and got lost...
Glad it took you on a journey somewhere....

He is a disabled cat, can't jump or run fast and has many broken teeth. Poss car accident? Then again his absolute terror of humans implies something else. It took nearly a year and lockdown to gain his confidence. Think being a stray was really tough for him.

Now anyone can take in a cat and get my kudos.

but when it's a poor unfortunate like Errant
(and god help those that scared him so much)
that's almost Damehood material.

A wonderful uplifting story.

Ps hope Mr Slim is doing ok :)

@RFSMarch I feel for you not liking salad. The only way I am clinging to LC for now is by eating fish and avo salad about 6 days a week and forgetting what I'm doing on the seventh - still vlc. Peanut or any other nut butter would be on my food hell list. Just goes to show how we are all different and suggesting how to eat LC from your own experience is fraught with issues. Hope you find your way through this.

SO have to agree, it is a minefield isn't it.

as for LCHF...
Better then choices given at my DX, basically
"takes these, eat this.. and may i suggest making the most of the few remaining good years."

yes, yes, of course i made that up..but it probably isn't far off the truth...;)

I'd of chosen LCHF day one, given the choice, IF i'd seen the success so many had, but you are right we do need better guidance of just what that COULD contain AND the possible down sides.

I find it remarkable.

I have read so many posts where the 'expected' outcome is so wide of the mark when many get their HBA1c down to more normal numbers, yet NO ONE at the surgeries seems interested in HOW they did it.

Mines not.

i tried to be honest early days and explain, and got that 'withering' stare from the DN
and in with docs in 10mins i decided not to waste a moment, as the 1st 5 mins is spent discovering who i am, and what I'm here for..(group practice, the magical mystery tour of patient care :D )

and it's not like they don't know.
i got some well done test when i got down to normal HBA1c of 40mmol in 8 months
Nice and all that but no "Can you come in and explain how you did it, so we can help others, "
a live example on their doorsteps, must create some curiosity ?

Because IF other at my surgery were as successful, they would have found out HOW and made that one of the choices at DX, right ?

Can only see
there MUST be other successes, so they would know and offer LCHF
OR
there are None, and they should wonder WHY one or two are an Anomaly

So that 'Honest' approach doesn't work at mine, sadly

Maybe with the Covid /Obesity/Diabetes being a marker of some sorts, that will all change once we de-cocoon from our homes
and those responsible WILL become interested in just how the hell, so many are bucking the trend...
AND on Little or NO Medication...:woot:

Perhaps it'll take one or two ministers with friends who can make money out of that
before they spend time & money thinking outside the "welcome to Insulin" box they all tick after we leave surgery.

Cynical, Moi...:wideyed:

100%

Morning.

FBG up .3 to an 2020 high of 7.8

No hugs, needed... i snuck some rice of Laurens plate, delish, and paying for it

Must say getting disheartened, comeback is taking Looong man (as the kids say)
sure THAT food rat, moment didn't help, but Yolo took over..:hilarious:

Decorating working the muscles well, but doesn't seem to do much for the FBG
BUT on the bright side one of my leg exercises states one is ONLY For
Advanced techniques for ATHLETES and SPORTSPERSONS

So there i am, Fitting some shelving to an alcove after we rearranged front room while i was incapacitated.

Sofa Unit too big to be dragging about on my own, so i popped up onto sofa cushions and leaned in
Much dipping down into cushions,

Which IS the very example used for sportspersons
(One legged stance on a Cushion placed on floor, balance for a minute or more)

So that Must mean ME...:D

Something about the constant shifting of weight on a cushion building up those unused ankle/leg muscles after 3 months in limbo.

Must of worked, had to have a rest day yesterday, as i ACHED :arghh: from the waist down..:wacky:
But No Pain No Gain, as My Physio, Ms Stern, Says..;)

So looking forward to just getting back to some decent measure of fitness.
seems running is pooh poohed for a good few months after such breaks :sorry:

So back to weights for me.

Have a good un all.

wet, windy sunny here in My part of London.
off to meet niece, a run to cemetery to lay flowers for her Mum
Back home for tea, then more DiY...:D

a little song to end on..

Dinner's here. Duck, with Chinese greens and a hot and sour soup. Maybe watch a Jackie Chan film! Nice half bottle of red to sup with my fave food.

So cheers all! dinner2.jpg

Ah @RFSMarch , spot on with the insight, it's all about making it work for us.
perfect, naw, but what else do we have.?

i am partial to a good salad, throw in some cut steak/chicken/etc...yum

but OMG i hate fish, more so the oily fishee fish...:woot::hungover::hungover:

In the spirit of not saying you dislike it without trying it
i have tried harder since DX

but in all, I've tried herring/gravelax/salmon/sushi..and many other presumed fruits of the sea..and most are YUK.

i will say i like tiger prawns BUT not the smaller prawns /shrimps, and have eaten crab lobster occasionally without being violently ill..so not all fish is bad, but for me, i can truly say if no more fish, i doubt i'd miss it.

So i deffo hear you on the salad front.
makes it a littler harder, but your plan seems like the best worst option.
(made a few of those myself.)

Good luck
Bit of a leap to assume I have never even tried salad to dislike it? The reason I don't like salad IS because I have tried eating it. Many times. I just. Don't. LIKE it.

I didn't like it when I was a kid, but what kid likes being told to eat their greens. I have tried salad pots in work canteens. I have tried salad pots at Grand Slam media restaurants. I still don't like it.

But if it means some other thing to prove I don't belong in this or any other diabetes/LC carb group then so be it. I am in the normal range with meds, exercise and staying roughly round 80-125g of carbs WITHOUT salad, and at the end of the day what matters to me is MY BG range.

So yeah... no salad.

Hi all,
A bit tired today after 2nd Pfizer vaccine yesterday, but can't grumble.
Think I will skip my garden walk today.

It's a bit showery, windy and cold in Cumbria with snow over tops.
Quick roll out in youngest daughters' area for Vaccines, she gets her first monday.
We all are moving on apace.
Great medical teams in UK, they are running an excellent smooth operation in our small town of Wigton of Lord Bragg fame!:)

Stay put @lindisfel and when you do feel better just remember this

Each one of us with T2DM should manage our chronic condition individually with what works for us in conjunction with our health care professionals, who are swamped by and large by both the diabetes tsunami and the other conditions that have to be treated.

So, after the quarterly check-ins, we are the alchemists and navigators of our tailored diabetes journeys between those waypoints and in a way that suits us as distinct individuals.

For me, that now means avoiding Subway, McDonalds, Nandos etc and basically every food chain with the exception of Itsu on occasion. It means taking carbs out to almost zero some days and sometimes water fasting. I now eat lots of green leafy vegetables wherever possible. I also exercise far more. For others, it's a different route on the journey which can either include or exclude salad :)

This is the key as you say - we are all different. Avoiding diabetes complications which are either life limiting or life altering is my focus as much as possible is my primary goal. And I would hope the same for us all.

Interesting discussion where we can share snippets of our own regime that might or might not work for others. Thoughts anyone?

@ianpspurs , @jjraak and last but by no means least
@RFSMarch .
LCHF does not work for me and me's, low to medium carb seems to work, high fat unless it's cheese is a real no no.
My medications screw things up, big time, but carbs are a big requirement in the morning for me.

As for eating things we detest just for the sake of lowering blood sugars a marginal amount does not equate, there are better ways to do that, we just have to find what works with our own bodies chemistry set.
I have to remind myself that life is for living, not fretting about things that I have marginal control of. My transplanted liver seems to able to regulate my bodies requirements, unless I get very active and burn up more energy than I estimated in the morning. Just recently a common occurrence.
Good luck all.

OMG WINNER!

Yeah - ironically in lockdown (more chance to exercise, more chance to cook with the veg I DO like) I am now my lighest in decades and logging in My Fitness Pal (MFP), I come in a little over 100g but mainly 80-125g a day.

I did sit down and put in what I *would* have put away in carbs when I was a competing track and field athlete in my 20s-30s... and it was... an eye opener. It could be anywhere from 200-400g depending on what I was eating for lunch/dinner and almost always was pasta, rice, potatoes in some measure. So even if I came in bang on the nose at 100g a day, that would still be at the very least HALF of what I was eating every single day when I was training 5 days a week and competing most weekends!

Even when I joined MFP and reduced quantities from say 75g of pasta or maybe 1/3 of a cup of rice to myself just to fit into my calories... it would still be a huge amount. I had already cut out cereal and moved to Greek Yoghurt in the mornings long before DX so that wasn't an issue. But god I miss a good bowl of cereal in front of the telly!

I have to say just using MFP for carb counting has made life so much easier.... and I think once I say that actually... up to 100g was a good day and if it crept over a little bit I would still stay relatively stable meant I had a lot less anxiety about it. And that is also half the battle with diabetes.

He is beautiful @SlimLizzy
Thank you @gennepher
Errant now is very different from the skulking, scruffy beast that he was. We didn't even know he had white fur, it was all Normandy mud tinged, sparse and coarse. He had a terrible cough, it was months before I could get him any treatment.
You know, a bit like Mrs Beetons recipe for rabbit pie... first catch your rabbit. Or in this case, your cat.
