moved to my Home-State, so happy to be back and have my much-loved 4 Seasons again. Did not like the almost constant, icy winds off the ocean, and lack of shopping options (groceries and other). Did a lot of shopping online and finally gave up on any clothes shopping ;)
..and it is so hard to trust the "new info" from Doctors that say not to worry about high, total Cholesterol numbers.

I'll show you the snips I have of my results but the one thing that is saving me from truly freaking out is the Triglycerides/HDL which is 1.4. That 1.4 seems to be unanimously, in the "safe zone", or "less than 2".

Has anyone here ever had cholesterol as high as mine at 389 on Keto?? I'm such a believer in the Keto diet, but this is making me very nervous and I still do not want to take Statins. I can't find a thing online, that is "for" Keto, that says anything about this high of a number for cholesterol :banghead:

Here are my test results and my new HbA1c is in my signature. Very pleased about that of courselipids.PNG cholesterol.PNG :

I was looking through the articles on BMJ.com and saw that using corn oil lowers cholesterol - but for each 30mg/dl decrease in cholesterol. the death rate rose by 22%.
There was also the Minnesota coronary experiment where reduction in cholesterol resulted in all cause deaths going up, with the percentage of cardio related events increasing - the research was terminated early......

I just heard, again, from something I was reading this a.m. that those with higher cholesterol are living longer than those with low cholesterol. I just don't understand why conventional med. doctors are not waking up if this is truth. I know my doc is going to have a cow when he sees my total cholesterol. I just want to stop seeing conventional med docs, or at least those that aren't considering, at least, this information ;(

PS I'm going to that site bmj.com. Thanks for the link :)

No but I'll look for it, thank you so much! I still would like to know one, single person that has had their cholestrol as high as mine though. Does it talk about that?? I mean mine is higher than any of the so-called "high" numbers I read about ;(

Hi. Have you read 'The Great Cholesterol Con' by Malcolm Kendrick? He's a UK GP. Puts things into perspective.
I mentioned this to the stroke consultant when he wanted me on statins after a TIA, he had seen “the great cholesterol con” he’s reply was, without stains, you are 10 times more likely to have a massive stroke. I have to say, he seems very clever to me so after years of refusal, I now take statins hehe

Why have you had five cholesterol blood tests this year?

this year?? I've only done the lipids every 3 months, one time though we did one early I think. I don't know, I've made myself sick with worry now and I can't be sure of what I'm doing :(

How long before your cholesterol total, started going down on the Keto Diet? Anybody?? I've been on Keto since right after my 7.4 blood glucose hba1c labs came back, nearly 5 months. Shouldn't my ldl be dropping down by now?

I’m sorry I must be reading it wrong, worrying about stuff like this is a self fulfilling prophecy, the more you worry, the more you will have something to worry about, not that you can help it, it’s just ironic. I would agree trigs look great which I believe to be the most important thing.

No, I can't seem to help but worry when I've been on cloud 9 with my T2 numbers, and keep hearing promising info on ldl lowering after some time on Keto. Then I get nailed with 389 total, and the ldl at 312. Who the hell do we believe nowadays ;(

I appreciate everyone here, what's working for many of you is only partially working for me. I think Keto is awesome at what it's done for me, but why can't that include normal cholesterol. It's like damned if you do and damned if you don't :(

So are you saying that cholesterol will rise on a high fat diet?
That worries me a bit since mine has always been above average. I was 7.3 even years before my diabetes, and got down to 6. something. This was by taking Plant Sterols over a two year period ( which I restarted taking three months ago)

Nah nothing is working particularly for me lol, I’ve given up and take meds for everything, at least you have hope of curing yourself, you are doing better than you think.

As always, we are all different, my cholesterol went from 7 something to 3 something on a high fat diet, once upon a time.

That's the general consensus for Ketogenic diets, yes, or I should say, they say it "can" rise.

That must be good but US numbers are different so not sure. Do you remember how long that took, and did you have high cholesterol, or I mean, did yours naturally run higher @Fenn ?

Diet Doctor site says LDL and Apob (apolipoprotein) is important. I have tests on ldl of course, but I see nothing on APOB?? Is that one they don't usually test or you have to ask for etc.?

Cholesterol went from quite high to perfect with trigs at 0.7, took 6 months along with 6 stone weight loss
