Thank you for the creative and the wildlife update. Amazingly frugal with fuel consumption and good that smart meter installation went well. Is this the end for now of the kaleidoscope era? Have a great day doing all the things closest to your heart safely.
Yes I am frugal with fuel consumption @ianpspurs
But I don't do without, I am simply not wasteful. I always thought this day would come (thinking this even years ago) where gas and electric costs would become exorbitant. I am probably more prepared for this than a lot of people.

End of kaleidoscopes just for the moment, but I do like doing them. Maybe I will do one kaleidoscope a week!

Take back control day in full swing here. Amazon may not do eggs for general delivery but my dad's wartime stories proved helpful - 1 - 1.5 year shelf life and these freeze. I'm laying in supplies. I shell not be beaten. Omelette and upwards, no yoke folks. Give your puns free range.:D (Actually we already had both)

I have that powdered egg. Bought some at beginning of lockdown 2020 @ianpspurs
Absolutely hate the taste of them. Tried wartime recipes with them...ugh.
Tried modern day recipes with them...ugh.
The rest of the bag is still sitting there...shelf life of it is indefinite as it will not be used again.

Sorry to hear you didn't like the taste however much you tried. We bought the dried egg powder hoping to make something like these which are my favourite LC/ dirtyKeto treat - no sweetener is a winner for me. However, the citrus fibre seems to be bulk (industrial quantities) buy only and the proportions are hard impossible to work out. These are also now on my monthly shopping order. The egg whites are/were for making fluffy omelettes easier/less wasteful since we stopped making our own mayo (long story, big divide over taste of olive oil). It is only in the last 2-3 months that I have started eating eggs again but still find them nothing like those from our own hens.

Interesting.
Thanks.
Yes own eggs are best.
But we are not allowed to keep chickens in our gardens here. Against council rules. And Foxy Loxy would never be away. Gone are the days when my grandparents kept a shotgun behind the kitchen door to deal with that pest.
But I used to keep quail for eggs long ago. Have been considering it again. But how to keep Foxy Loxy totally away...or Foxy Loxy proof their cage and run...

Foxy Loxy indeed. We built a "stockade" with all the corrugated tin dad had, two high doors, put wire underneath and in front of the coop, escorted them in at night - until they became too wild and slept in trees, refusing, one by one, to come in to safety. Sure enough, eventually a lone chicken pecked on the patio doors and only some feathers of the other 8 remained. Soon enough that one went the same way.

Fbg 6.8

Gas and electric smart meters were installed yesterday. The installation guy was very pleasant. So, now I can see on the monitor how much I use in pennies as the day progresses. I am still on my earlier fixed tariff from last year, so, I do not have an increase (as far as I understand it) until end of May, when my current tariff ends (and then I might have a shock).

The installation guy disconnected the electric meter at 8 am yesterday, and then did the gas meter. I have only used 31p in total for the gas and electric since he put the new smart meters in. It is 8:30 am the next day now. I have boiled water for tea and coffee. I have cooked two meals (I was hungry because I was stressed yesterday with this meter change, normally I only have one cooked meal). I had the electric blanket on while I was on the couch during the day. I also had the electric blanket on during the night in bed. Electric lights have been on. I have charged up all my devices and a couple of power packs. The dehumidifier has been running non stop in the kitchen. And I have two ionisers running 24/7 as always. But I have not had a shower yet nor used the bathroom underfloor heating yet, nor have I used the washing machine.

But what I did do, was turn off the gas boiler when I realised how much gas the pilot light used. It is an old boiler and I was just using it for hot water if necessary. The installation guy checked it was safe (my last service on it had been just before Xmas), he had to check that before he installed the new gas smart meter. I googled to find out how much a pilot light cost to run a year, and was shocked to find it could cost around £120, just for the pilot light. I can relight that pilot light if I need a quantity of hot water. Which will be if I am hand washing something.

I am glad the ancient gas meter has gone . It was a rust bucket that scared me. Although I had been told a few years ago it was safe.

So, most of that 31p is electric. I got a very cheap fixed rate this last year. And I thought the electric dial crept forwards slightly even when nothing was used, but I didn't do anything about it. I'll find out in next month's bill if it did.

I was surprised this was so cheap. At least I don't have my 3 children at home any more when they believed gas and electric grew prolifically on trees. My electric and gas bills then, 35 years ago were more then than they are now.

Creative today. An actual painting. With brush pens, and a black fude pen. It didn't do what I wanted when I put a brush full of water on it, but when I sprayed some water, the ink moved. More experimenting with different papers and maybe my inks when I find them. No hidden Popeye in this one. I put it through Snapseed for the name, text pic of cat Popeye, and the frame. i think it is a little washy washy.

The cat diner - Shadow was sleeping on the swing, so got first dibs at dawn. The left over cat biscuits from yesterday (only a few) got put on the tiny circular bird table I have. Then Mr Magpie came along, but he ate a few, and then took a beak full and flew away. I realised he must be feeding his missus who would be sitting on her eggs now. So, I feel sorry for begrudging him yesterday. I just hope he doesn't become a problem for my smaller birds, which happened one year...

Coffee needed now...

Lovely subtle landscape. Always annoying when the ink will not behave. All the best with the smart meters.

Interesting article @dunelm
Had a quick read, but need to study it better later with next coffee...

Great art bit in black.

Freeze the eggs? Never tried it...yet. Freeze the eggs in ice cube containers?

Enjoy that coffee

Thanks @gennepher - freezing eggs in ice cube containers - can we have cubic boiled eggs?

Our current guests are probably leaving in the morning, paperwork permitting, these have been a delight to host and I have enjoyed their company. Would happily keep them longer.

Good evening all. Fbs this morning was 11.2. Felt better than the last few days, rallied myself and we went out for lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had beef bourguignon with baby brocolli. I have no idea how many carbs it contained but it was delicious and I thought "whatever-- my blood sugars are all over the place however careful I am being so I am going to enjoy myself". Fortunately time-wise Mr.D has just recovered from two cataract operations so was able to drive. It was the first restaurant meal we have been out for since the beginning of Covid lock down so felt really special. I wore the pendant that was the first gift my then boyfriend bought for me in 1970 and here we are 52 years later. That's all for now folks. Thanks for "listening". Best wishes :)

Hearty congratulations on your anniversary. 52 years is a wonderful testimony to your love as a couple. Special touch wearing the pendant. Good news on Mr D recovering from the cataract operations in time to fully appreciate his perfect taste in jewellery and ladies. You do know that carbs consumed on 52nd wedding anniversaries always count as zero?

I am so screwed. My guests have not received the neccessary documentation to continue their journey, so to distract themselves have gone into baking mode...
How to post pics?

Thank you very much@ ianpspurs. Yes, indeed we are truly blessed. It is 52 years together but not yet that long married as I went away to teacher training college for 3 years before we could marry. Best wishes to you and yours. :)
