What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Fbg 6.7

A bit of a disaster at tea time. I had decided to have a little something to eat. Unusual for me at tea time. Food was cooking. I had made my cuppa tea. It just needed a couple more minutes. I had some new fatballs for the birds, so went to put them in the feeders. But, disaster as I reached to put them in one feeder. My crutch slipped. I went flying onto and into the fuchsia bush, which totally disintegrated. Not very strong wood. But crutch was out of reach, fuschia bush crumpled even more as I tried to use it to pull myself up.
Midnight was watching me and doing his slow friendly blink...not much use to me. I am snagged on the fuschia bush and I cannot move. All I needed was a strong stick. I am mindful my tea may be a tad overcooked by now. No way am I yelling for help...

So, trying a different strategy to get up. That failed. Had a rest. Midnight is still doing the slow blink at me. I am now waiting for my bungalow to burn down in front of my eyes. Then an almighty crash of thunder. Don't you dare rain on me. It didn't. Okay, do that sharp outward breath again, but a different strategy needed. Several manoeuvres, and I am standing again.

My cup of tea is stone cold. Midnight declined my offer of my burnt fish. And I went through two bottles of witch hazel on the places that hurt. Fortunately I stocked up on witch hazel when the lockdowns began...

Painkillers today.

I need a garden strategy. I knew there was a reason I was growing some of my bamboo very tall and thick and big. There is enough to cut down into a lot of lengths, and have them all round the garden within reach. But that is tomorrow's task. Rest today, no jobs or tasks...
Never a day without some drama here.
I wasn't going to admit to this fall.
And the offending bird feeder has now been put in a much lower position, so no reaching...

Creative is Foxy and a few still shots from the video I put on YouTube last night. You don't have to look at it. That's okay.
The Fox

Creative is a few screenshots from the same video. I need to reposition it so I can get Midnight in the picture as well. You can just see his bottom half.

I have lost my confidence a wee little bit. So a good talking to myself today.
The fridge is full, some nice food in there.
Enjoy your day.
Take extra special care!!!
A cuppa now...

Ouch @gennepher. Hope the painkillers and witch hazel work today so that you are a lot more comfortable. Good that the bungalow did not burn down.

Hello everyone from a showery part of the mysterious East which is now the power base of our PM and Deputy PM. Early(ish) convoy along A11 and A14 so JKP's car can be serviced, then a tour of Bury St Edmunds Aldi, home, return to collect said car, before (hopefully) home in time for school pickup. Brother and sister these days. Tomorrow morning an even earlier start, into the real fens to collect 1 y.o. grandson:woot: J KP and MIL had a wonderful time in Great Yarmouth including consuming fish and chips plus these cocktails. @gennepher hugs for the fall and spoiled food. Do rest up today and balance confidence with caution. Thanks for sharing your vulnerability and images. @dunelm thanks for the art and sorry to hear the distress caused to your sister by her fall. @Krystyna23040 hug for your tiredness and another gold star for Mr K. @jjraak I hope the dog walk goes well, winner for feeling able to share those memories, especially that paramedic’s care for you. and your vulnerability but hug for the trauma of reliving the painful parts. Hopefully the treats we bought/buy our grandchildren and any love we can shower on them will go some small way to saying thank you as although they don't know it they will be paying for Liz's "largesse" probably for the rest of their time on earth. Take care and always have an exit strategy.

Good happy national bin day afternoon ladies and gentlemen and all who went scrumping as a child.
A 5.8 on that meter this morning.
@gennepher glad you appear to have no lasting problems after your fall.
@jjraak thanks for sharing, these things help those not so confident realise that they are not alone.
This morning for me was more blood tests and the feel my bottomist asked if I had any more blood test forms, I replied no and she said well I have for you! Oh to be of interest to the medics.
This afternoon here in Tilehurst Towers will be, after an afternoon nap will be working on yet more swords, the joys of being an armourer to the grandchildren.
Stay safe all, stay dry during this hosepipe ban and ponder the choice of the health minister.

Oh drat, and burned fish into the bargain. Well I hope that nothing more serious than the need for witch hazel. A neigbour of ours has an old school chair (metal frame, wooden seat) that he places next to his car when he is tinkering so that he can get back up. Placing some stout canes around the garden is a good idea. My sister carries a phone in a carrier round her neck with a panic number in it after her last episode which resulted in six weeks of hospitalisation. In the UK you can text 999 instead of phoning but you have to register first by texting “register” to 999 - you may already know about it: https://www.emergencysms.net/index.php
Thanks @dunelm
I hope too that witch hazel (and painkillers are enough).
I have had friends similar ages to me, who had falls the last few years, didn't get checked out despite having obviously swollen hand/arm etc , and these caused long term health and mobility problems. Nothing swollen on me, the side I fell on hurts, yes, because of the meeting with the fuschia tree. There is a minor injuries hospital a little way from here, for the moment I have a concern. And they do referrals for x rays etc.

The only thing that got seriously injured was my pink fuschia tree, which just survived the hot weather, but not me landing on it...

I do have a bag round the neck with my phone in it, but it was on my bed because I was only going out to put the fat balls in the bird feeder...yes...yes...I know...I know...I know...

Thanks for the link for emergency sms. I do have it on my phone. Thank you.

Thanks @Krystyna23040
They are working so far. But I won't be doing much today. In my comfy bed, on pillows...
I broke my cardinal rule, which is never leave the kitchen when something is cooking (because of past incidents, before I moved here). So, for the first time in 20 years, I simply go to put a few fatballs in the bird feeders, and something happens. Never break a cardinal rule, there was a reason you made it in the first place...

Thank you.

Thank you Ian.
I am resting.
I will be more sensible in future.
I promise myself...
You take care and enjoy the day.

Thank you very much Alf.

Hugs for being a pin cushion this morning...

Have a nice nap.
And, enjoy the woodworking afternoon.

I think that you have done really well to have not broken your cardinal rule for 20 years @gennepher. Good that you are resting and allowing your body to heal.

Sorry to hear this. Very unpleasant. If it helps, just sitting on a dining chair and then repeated standing and sitting may help with the exercising - can you see a foot specialist?
lol It's taken me 2 days and 15 phone calls just to get to see the doctor . I've had it for over 3 weeks and foolishly worked the whole time and in the process made it a whole lot worse . It is certainly less painful when resting it . Doctor has given me a range of exercises to do. I didn't realise that it is a common condition especially in my job .Any referrals to specialists are not available until much later if no improvement .

Last night I was getting in bed, when suddenly a cracking sound. One of the wooden bed slats had gone.
I got back out to check it but the mattress is extraordinarily heavy.
Got back in bed carefully.
Crack, a second slat went.
I need a plank/sheet of wood.
Racking my brains for an hour.
Lightbulb moment.
Took the bottom shelf out of my wardrobe.
Wedged mattress up. Looked properly at broken slats. It is a weird double layer system, not meant for repair. Pushed the wardrobe shelf in with difficulty.
Ouch ouch ouch.
Hurt arms pushing it in.
Painkillers needed.

Bed is very high, I have to literally climb into it.
Gingerly climb into bed. Repair job holds.

Creative today is a little frog out in the pouring rain yesterday. I had gone out to check on Midnight, to see if I could persuade him to come in, but he was nice and dry on the swing. Midnight does come inside when he wants to. He has taken up mountaineering over all my things, and surprisingly (given his size), doesn't knock anything over.

I had my phone camera with me, so took a couple photos of the frog, which is probably the reason the fox is constantly searching in his quest for food.

Enjoy your cuppa this morning...

Weight 53.1 kg
Lunch. Diabetics nightmare, sliced white bread left by the houseguests.
Am turning it into that traditional French snack Croque Monsier, and serving it with salad. We are eating this once a week until the bread is gone. Neither of us enjoys the sweetish taste of this bread. Cutting off the crusts reduced the carbs to about 32g. A just passable amount for me, but definitely not either nutritious or really enjoyable.
MrSlim is hard at work repointing the end wall. The scaffold started at about 10m high, reducing as the work progresses. Today he took down the top layer, unfortunately somehow the satellite dish got knocked out of alignment and we then spent several hours resetting it.
"What's it like now?
"Still showing weak signal message"
How about now?
It's gone black !
Each communication involved running outside and shouting up the scaffold.
Both of us got a bit fed up with it but we managed to get it going just in time to hear about the queens health problems.
Which were then followed by her departure from this life.
Have had a rather worrying phone call re my 4 year old grandsons health. He has emergency appt for ultrasound scan of a lump on his neck and the doc has ordered blood tests. The child is terrified of doctors having had previous experience of blood being taken forcibly. Along with another invasive and painful procedure. (I can't remember the name) where a sample was taken from the fluid surrounding his hip bone. The situation is not helped by the doctors attitude towards his mother who stopped just short of saying that she was guilty of neglect!

Excellent repair job @gennepher - will you do something a bit more permanent? Love this frog art, marvelous.

I thought that white sliced bread lasted forever? Satellite saga sounded like a Brian Rix number. Big hug for the scare with your grandson and hope that he fares well.
