What’s happened to the forum?

Hi, I had ads for a few days but they disappeared a day or two ago and I've been ad free since. Could it be something to do with the browser used? I'm using Safari on Apple devices.

@Riva_Roxaban , from your screenshots it looks like you weren't logged in when you got those ads, is that correct? And would you mind trying logging in with the ad blocker disabled to see if this makes a difference?
I wasn't getting adverts when the first lot of people were. Mine started when theirs stopped. I don't have the app but use my phone and pc
@zand and @dancer , same question basically (trying to solve the mystery, hopefully not being obnoxious with all my questions), do you get ads when you're logged in? Or only before logging in?

I've used an ad blocker for ages now and while it's pretty good at keeping ads at bay, sometimes instead I get a stroppy message from a site telling my to turn my ad blocker off :***: so I beat a hasty retreat instead - which is their loss...
I understand that porn sites do not like ad blockers. a little bird told me. However, my local newsfeed is stuffed with ads, but ignores my blocker. PS I have not seen any ads on this site on my laptop, so it must be working well there. I have had general emails from Administrator with the questionaire attached. Nothing about the forum at all, its logging peraonal data.

I can't seem to keep a full list of posts showing, I have to click on the little tab to change that every time I go to look.
I think it is down to my dyslexia, but I can't seem to keep track when some posts vanish away just because I have read them.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean with a 'full list of posts'.
Which little tab do you mean? The alerts one (little bell on the top right) or the New Posts one or something else altogether?

You're the first one to mention posts vanishing away. Where are you looking and where are they vanishing from? I haven't noticed vanishing posts or alerts so we need a bit more information to know what we're looking for.

Are you using the app or your browser? And on what device?

I was logged in as I do not log out of any forum I am a member of.

All I did was turn the Block This VPN off on that device ( Samson Galaxy A7 tablet), Loggeg on or off those adverts showing like that one of power saving, should not be allowed to be displayed as it was a advert for WD40. I was not quick enough to get a screen shot of it though.

When I look at 'new posts' there is an option to show all posts rather than just the unread ones, but I have to click on it every time I look at the forum rather than have it as my preferred option.

@Resurgam - I was getting that so see the bit on this screen shot in @maybecrazy post where it says show only unread, I clicked on that and a box popped up - take all the ticks out so nothing is ticked and then I clicked save and it solved it for me. Mind you that little bar has disappeared once I did it and I’ve no idea how I will change preferences in the future if I change my mind lol

I have a new gripe which has made an old gripe rear its ugly head again.

I don't want push notifications so have pressed the 'don't ask me again' tab. I do still want email notifications of Pms. These are now being delayed, where they used to be sent instantly I received the PM. I once belonged to a small forum where the notifications were delayed in the same way. I hope this isn't going to be permanent.

The old gripe: I joined the Low Carb Program right at the very beginning. All went well for over a year or so, and then I couldn't login to it. I did send emails and PMs but nothing was ever done about it. I wasn't too bothered as I was only in there to help others and if my help wasn't wanted anymore then that was OK. However, I have recently started getting emails from Louise from the Low Carb Program. I do not wish to receive these or belong to the Low Carb Program any longer, so I would be grateful if you could stop sending me the emails and remove my name from the Low Carb Program, but keep me here in the forum. I haven't bothered asking before I didn't want to risk my account here being closed in error! The unsolicited emails from Louise are an annoyance I no longer wish to have, and I can't cancel them myself as I can't login to the Low Carb Program. I have already made sure that in 'Preferences' the 'Received news and update emails' and the 'receive activity summary email' boxes are unchecked for the general forum, but this doesn't stop the ones coming from the Low Carb Program.

I hope you can help, perhaps it will be easier to do now we have this shiny new forum. :)
I have the same problem. Previous member of LC program but unable to log in.

I have the same issue as resurgam (annoying as I keep forgetting about it) and can’t find a save button to save the unticked box as a preference (iPad webpage default interface)

Ah thanks, I hadn't even found that filter yet.
Do you mean this menu?
Apparently you can save your choices as default (blue arrow) but maybe it doesn't work right?

Have you tried using the What's New tab (green arrow)? I think - but correct me if I'm wrong - that one shows all latest posts and doesn't change when you've read a thread.

Ah - got it - when I found the box of options there was a choice ticked, so it was just a case of untick that and then putting a tick in the save as default at the bottom.
Simple when you know where to look.

I only get ads before logging in now. I am still getting them, and they sometimes put me off bothering to log in.

The ads are there when not logged in, I'm sorry about that.
But there shouldn't be adds once you're logged in.

Both my computer and phone automatically log in when I open the forum so I never get to see ads anymore.

Anyone else having issues ,

A few of us in my favourite thread are having an abysmal time trying to post

Endless errors, posts having to be rewritten several times or being lost .

Have turned phone off for several minutes.
Have logged out of site them back in.

But it's not just me, several others having issues.

Many wondering IF it's worth even trying to post post if everyday it's hit or miss if you can or not.

Seems problems being ignored for some reason
Been tagging errors most days
(Yes, I do appreciate MODS, are volunteers, honest I do but not one acknowledgement...so maybe errors mean tags can't get through ? )

We have workarounds we are evolving, but honestly .
Can't believe forum now relies on us writing posts in another app, so we don't lose everything when yet another error stops us posting

Have tagged in @Administrator @Jaylee @Antje77 ...doing so here in case tags can't be seen from our error hurricane thread.

Any reply welcomed ..been almost a week now

Hi @jjraak ,

Sorry for the late response.

I can assure you your tag (of me ) was spotted earlier in the other topic. whilst I was at work on a break using my phone. I’ve flagged the issue up (just got home now.) & in the process of it brought to the tech team’s attention.

Regards.

Jay.

Thank you

Had thought forum upstreams might have been affected.

And am aware mods have real lives, too.. :-l

Appreciate the reply <cheers>
