What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

FBG 11.4. 2 cups of tea later it was 18.1. Taken insulin and had some breakfast - had to have something before my Welsh friend arrives. I had made some banana bread to offer with coffee, but it was a disaster and is now in the bin. Must see if Em has left me any biscuits. She arrived here this morning (planned) at just before 7.30. Her mum had to be at her first client on the west side of the Island by 7 am and her dad had to be at work in Stornoway at 8 am. She was still in her pyjamas but didn't lift the pile of her school clothes to change into so her dad had to go home again to pick them up. Still, she was ready to go in time, washed, brushed, dressed and breakfasted, so all's well. Must tidy the kitchen (and see if there are any biscuits) before my friend arrives at 10 am.

Good morning all. Fbs this morning was 16.4. Have a good week everyone. :)

Update. I had a text message earlier this morning from the doctor who increased my diabetes medication 3 months ago asking me to make an appointment with a doctor to discuss my recent blood results. I rang straight away. The receptionist said she cannot book an appointment with him in advance. I can either call at 8.30 in the mornings to book an appointment with him on the actual day or she could make an appointment in advance with another doctor but not until next Wednesday. He only works on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays so I will ring at 8.30 tomorrow and hope he has an appointment free.

Good morning everyone meandering through their loved or best forgotten food yesterdays. One person's meat etc. Cooler day today but currently quite bright. JKP is still in bed and her latest test rapidly showed a strong reaction so she obviously has this bad. She did react worse to the vaccination but I've no idea if they are connected. That reminds me, Only Connect and University Challenge on TV tonight :woot:. @lindisfel no Cumberland sausage would tempt me but sensibly seasoned Haslet is nice and JKP is a fan especially from a pork producer on St Ives market. @gennepher hug for all the rain and not liking the creative today. I find it quite spiritual and apt. The brooding darkness overcome by the light and blue sky which as far as I can see is what today was originally all about. @dunelm hug for TGIB and all children whose routines were disrupted by clock changes - their internal clocks don't alter in the same way. Must have been a few babies crying for milk seriously early yesterday so no extra hr lie in there .Thanks for the latest development of your wonderful art and safe journey home. @Annb the winner is for the love and care of and for others you show in your posts. Em is blessed to know you as is your Welsh friend and all whose lives you share or touch. Such a loving soul overcoming the seemingly insuperable power of adversity. Love and light overcoming darkness which again seems to be perfect for today. @Krystyna23040 hug for the traffic issues on your return to work after a wonderful half term break. No 1 son and his children video called earlier and has delivered some groceries. His daughter shared the sung prayer they say before lunch and the one they sing before home time. Both adorable IMHO. Her and her brother go to a C of E school and the one in Winchester goes to a Catholic one. Fascinating as the two here are baptised Catholics and the one in Winchester hasn't been baptised but dad, like all our boys, is a baptised and confirmed Anglican. Something may have stuck from their childhood. Enjoy your day whether you join in trick or treat, ignore the US inspired hullabaloo or contemplate the origins of the next three days.

Hug for the drama of the day.

But with @ianpspurs on the winning attitude.

It's a shocking system at times

Had similar, so just called next day as advised.
Rarely get through & by the time someone actually answers all appointments are gone again

:banghead::banghead::banghead:

Rarely bother now.
I'm online with surgery & use their E-Consult service.

Get a call back later in day, explain issues, usually get appointment or visit sorted if needed.

Not ideal for every occasion obviously, but worked well for me this year.

Hope you get a good response tomorrow.

Thank you for your description of the painting @ianpspurs
I appreciate that.
Ah, I hadn't thought about All Hallows...

Hugs for JKP x

Morning...just.

A slow weekend.
A little dog walking with Lauren 6k steps, if very slowly paced
But nice to be back by her side at some point on a walk.

Exhausted after, so naps all round.

She's still suffering major tiredness after having covid 4 weeks back .

Chiswick house making a real effort for Halloween, a few pics below.

Exercises ongoing at gym and at home.

Not sure if I'm losing the plot, but checking stats with tracker, notice a few lows in my resting HR.

A tad concerned, I checked previous month's data...ooh err

A quick check on line, resting heartbeat lowers during sleep.
D'oh, I knew THAT..

Panic over, Mr Mainwaring...;)

Onwards & upwards.

Big fines for not picking up dog mess

You are most deserving and welcome to any and all compliments on your creatives. Thanks for the hug for JKP. As for All Hallows, perhaps your subconscious was at work in the process of creating that work? This Close and the whole surrounding area is heavily populated by US service families so their version of Halloween is predominant. Totally different to anything I have ever experienced. There is quite a backlash in many Christian circles against the more Americanised idea of how to mark today. Here is a piece explaining how pagan traditions became interwoven with Christian ones. Another piece from a modern C of E perspective outlining the concerns some have over what takes place now and how to maybe shift the perspective for youngsters which I think lies behind my reaction to your creative.

Thanks Ian, for the very interesting articles about Hallowe'en. I was aware of the transition from the pagan festivities to the Christian and then commercial ones but not in great detail. The C of E perspective has some very good ideas in it. With Em, we have spent a year or more, talking her out of the idea of fearing ghosts (I explained to her that her grandpa would be sure to be watching over her, if any soul could, so she had no need to fear). We had lots of discussions about whether haunting was possible and she has now got over the fear. She still loves the idea of dressing up and going to a party (she intends to be a black cat - she loves all animals) but it's uncommon for children here to go round the houses begging for treats, so there is no great imperative for her to do that. The school seems to have been pushing the more commercialised perspectives though. I can't say that it was a festival we ever indulged in either as children or as parents.

Fog 6.5

I like rabbit.
Had a boyfriend over half a century ago whose dad was a butcher.
Rabbit was best grilled he said.
So he grilled it. He was good at cooking meat.
The rabbit was deliciously tender.
But once I realised about myxomatosis I didn't have it any more.

One of my cats used to regularly catch rabbit for me, and drag it in through the cat flap. He hunted on the railway sidings. And I would come into the kitchen to a live rabbit looking at me...

Okay, YouTube video is Foxy Loxy who also appears to like my cat, but this night he is just rooting around. The second pair of eyes in the background also belong to a fox. I have many clips which are like dancing eyes in the bushes...

Fox

Creative is autumn again...
I struggled with this one. I don't like it.
I spent too long on it.
I was trying to make it lighter, but it turned dark, probably my mood yesterday...

Cuppa needed now.

Have your best day.

I have never seen so much rain as we have now.
Makes me glad to live on top of the hill, and not the bottom of the hill...

That's autumn in a nutshell, some gloom, some brightness, leaves swirling in a gusty breeze. Peering through the storm clouds to see the blue sky and some sun. Magic.

I'm glad you found them interesting. I did wonder if I had put out too much information and for some I obviously will have. Again. Em has so much to be thankful for with having you spend so much time and care with her. How wonderful for her to feel her grandpa is watching over her. I hope she enjoys the dressing up as a cat. So much better than some of the other ideas.

Thanks very much Ian.

Strange...I turn off my solar powered window decorative lights last night and will do tonight. But not because it was anything I knew about as in your link...

An interesting read from the C of E perspective.

I am very unsure of giving strange kids candy. Who knows what might be in it. We tell our kids not to accept sweets from strangers, and then say okay you can knock on everyone's door, accept and eat all those sweets....

God forbid, what are the odds that some haven't been messed with...

It is going to be mayhem your way tonight...

Em came in again after school. Her dad will pick her up here when he finishes work. We've been having a conversation about what Hallowe'en and All Saints Day is about - the Christian version. She was listing all the people she remembered who have passed on - grandpa, great grannie (105), great grandpa, great grannie and gr grandpa and so on. Then she thought about what they did (school project - what relatives did in WW2). One a nurse, one a soldier/instructor in the Royal Artillary, one an RAF pilot, two workers in an explosives factory... and suddenly, what about all the animals who died? Between us, Em and I are writing some children's stories about pets we have loved and lost over the years. (I think they are OK but they need to be illustrated. Might ask Neil if he can help out - on top of everything else he is a pretty good graphic designer and artist but I will have to find a way to get him interested in the project.) There's beloved Benjie, and tragic Bella, and Jimmy the farm cat and Coco his companion. Shouldn't they be remembered too? We agreed that we should be thinking about everybody and every pet we have ever loved, or even those we never met but know about that were loved by other people.

It turns out that she is going out tonight for Trick or Treating, but her Mum is going with her and they will visit neighbours and then go to Stornoway to visit her sister and family, including Banksie. No trailing around dark streets.

Hope JKP starts recovering very soon and that you also stay OK. Or as OK as you can be with Covid.

Luckily the traffic had eased a lot so my journey to work was OK.

What a good idea for the stories and good that her mother is going with her. There have been groups of Trick or Treaters about here escorted by adults and with lights or torches. They seem to know to avoid houses with no pumpkins or decorations outside.

Great isn’t it - doctor asks you to make an appointment and receptionist now wants you to jump through hoops of pointlessness - must be progress but I still preferred just turning up and shuffling along the chairs until you reached the front.
