What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning everyone from the edge of the food desert here in the dark and dangerous north. It’s like having a bit part in that film Ice Cold In Alex but the ambulance is stuck outside A&E. Stab, jab, kebab was 5.2 this am. Steaks - can’t go wrong with steaks - well you can if you go to a restaurant in the UK - always a bit of a lottery. I like the bavette (flank) steaks from Morrisons, only a couple of quid a pair. Full of flavour and they marinade well. @ianpspurs, hugs for the Paxlovid rebound and hope that it does not last long.
Just ordered half a ton of smokeless coal briquettes - they will arrive on Friday in 25kg bags so I can time Mrs Miggins running up and down the drive doing her worlds strongest woman practice runs. I would do it myself but I am more skilled in the art of encouragement and stop watch operations. Also, I didn’t fill out the entry forms.
Art bit - squiggle, squiggle add some ink. Bin day tomorrow so best write a note to myself about putting the bin out tonight. Have a great day if you can. Best make some more koffy.

Cat, Midnight: Who rang? Must be time for supper.
Foxy Loxy: Where's that cat?

Creative for today painted in Procreate.
Autumn Firethorn.

The sparrows are squabbling a lot at the feeders at the moment. Some quite intense fights!

Time for a cuppa!

Have a good day, as best you can.

You just reminded me @dunelm
It's that time of the week that I need to stick the notice on the fridge door about putting bins out for tomorrow...
Thank you!
Your brilliant art bit - it is becoming a stairway on the side of a cliff face...a bit scary....

We don’t have a smart meter - I don’t think that they are that smart. I take readings from gas and electric meters and send them in at month end . My bills have not really gone up much. Sorry you are not getting shifts, hope that changes for you.
I have been genuinely surprised that the bills have been … ok. Obvs not much gas (apart from hob) used in the summer and didn’t have the choice re: Smart Meter - Npower sold to eon.next and they converted it but Covid hit before I got the home metre.
One lodger is/was a mature student but worked at home a lot and so I do wonder if two of us at home will affect the leccy.

Re: shifts - I have been assured that I have not gone the way of one of the freelancers who started with me (I started as staff on a short term contract and joined the freelance pool when I finished). He refused to work weekends and only wanted to work certain days whereas I got in to live shifts and had the Olympics, Paralympics, Winter Olympics and Commonwealth Games but things just stopped after the US Open. I am actively trying to also chase for World Service shifts and I need to sort out my portfolio and get it up to date but sometimes when I start feeling that I have failed at this, it is REALLY hard to get the motivation.

I have to spend the day at my cousin’s with her Covid denying hubby - he is keen to help me get the Amazon side of my own sports website back up and running - but again sometimes the motivation has been low because basically all the resources and time I poured into developing it was completely obliterated in the pandemic as I used up all my reserves and plundered my life savings just to survive.

I will never be able to recoup that investment and the only saving grace is that I didn’t get any additional loans and used my own savings. But still … anyway … I need him to wipe down an old laptop I used for trading to sell to my other lodger, and my cousins take me in at Christmas so that I don’t have to spend it on my own so … will just bite my lip if he tries to convince me that Covid never happened.

In my case @lindisfel there was nothing on file at my doctor's surgery. There was no information there about any endoscopy, and I had not been to see any doctor, or specialist that year or the year before.

I knew nothing about endoscopy or if it was top end or bottom end. I did turn up for the appointment and I was terrified. It was for 9am on the Thursday, and the letter only came Tuesday afternoon.

No time to investigate where this endoscopy appointment originated from. I cannot use the telephone with being deaf to find out. So I physically went to the GP practice on the Wednesday, but they said there was nothing on record there, and they knew nothing about it, and the endoscopy referral was not initiated by them.

When I got to the hospital I found out it was via mouth. I am asking all kinds of questions because I do not know why I am having it. When I am told there is a camera via mouth going downwards, that was me in a panic. You are anesthesising me I asked. No they said. I got up to leave.

I explained I have excessive dry mouth and throat due to Sjogrens Syndrome, and I am panicking it will get stuck.

Remember I have not seen any specialist at this hospital in Wales, or any hospital in Wales over any issue. I had moved to Wales about 10 years previously.

Although I am terrified, because this whole endoscopy thing was totally out of the blue, there is this wee voice inside me that said I should go through with it.

They agreed to anaesthetise me in the end.

The guy who did the procedure was the actual specialist I saw a couple of weeks later. And he told me of a pile of problems I had, and I got various medications for them, and strategies on how to deal with them.

So, in the event, I was glad I went, and although I questioned the specialist, he could give me no answers as to who referred me except to say it was a nurse. My partner J came with me to the follow up appointment, and he asked as well who had referred me, the specialist just said a male nurse again.

The specialist was a lovely kind friendly guy.

But it still bewilders me who initiated this.. maybe it was an angel?
I had a gastroscopy, I thought I would be brave.
Never again its a nightmare of continuous gag reactions. Next time I shall be drugged first.

5.6 this morning did a work out yesterday so that probably helped. I am surprised though as I had chopped leeks with minced lamb yesterday. I know it wasn't the lamb. I didn't have many just enough to add flavour and I remained in the 7s for most of the day, a bit high for me. I had some boiled chicken later in the evening still in the 7s and went to bed annoyed with myself! Got up this morning and 5.6 so all ended well. I picked out the chopped leeks from the mince lamb and had it this morning with the remaining boiled chicken, I was starving! Going to be busy for the next couple of days so we will see how the levels play out.
Hi @Lainie71

Bad form on my part, but I'd never eaten leeks before my DX.

Really enjoy them now, make a very satisfying swap in my book.

Not found it impacted me at all.
Though i must keep an eye on it next time & check ...mmhh

Have a good un.

Shopping today, hopefully it will not be raining but I am afraid this must be one of the wettest Autumns for years in Cumbria.
Eventually it will switch to dry and frosty.

Not warm today though at 10 deg C.
Have a good day all.

Could be worse ..

Having rescheduled all sorts of appointments yesterday following the negative test I seem to have developed the Paxlovid rebound in the form of something like a heavy cold. JKP is recovering and testing negative but isolation/separation seems a wise precaution.
Sods law in action....
Hope rebound is short lived & as weak as a spurs OR chelsea title hope ... :bag:

Sensible keeping some space.
Nice to see your good lady making progress.

It has been really lovely seeing you back on the thread. Hope you are back again soon. I am sure you are really good at your second career and you will get more shifts.
Thank you… it was just a gut kick yesterday to see the live and not be on the team for the end of the season.

Tomorrow I need to get my backside in gear and do company admin and I kept back enough to pay myself for November and December. Plus I have this part time gig at the golf club as a Marshall which is only 4 days a week but I didn’t realise that they pay my club membership. I was just doing it to pay it so I could keep playing as 5 hours away from computers and TV has been great for my mental health in some ways. The less we say about the frustrations you go through in a round of golf is a whole other thing!
