What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Part the second. @gennepher - chicory coffee brings back 2 memories. Uncle mentioned above and smell from a chicory factory I passed daily on my way to school. Thanks for the creative I have more idea about Glenn Turner the NZ cricketer than Turner the artist, sorry.. @Annb hug for the bad day yesterday and the cold. I can’t solve either problem nor can all the great and the good despite their bluster but "what I can I give you, give you" a hug. Layering is all the rage. @SlimLizzy as per Ann all I can do is sympathise. Best wishes for the self control but great fbg so perhaps stick with the program. Hope shopping goes well. @krystyna hug for Archie - can dogs perhaps acquire a loving nature and stubbornness from humans? A friend asked and Alexa said hmm, sorry I don’t know that one. Hug for the historical family stress. I seem to have been blessed not to have those issues. I doubt anything could drive me to eat biscuits and certainly not ginger ones. @dunelm thanks for the art which will obviously end up as a masterpiece and enjoy the ice sculpture extravaganza if you go. My grandfather said always give to the Salvation Army as they were the only people to bring tea to the trenches in WW!. He and his brother came through as unscathed as possible. Never talked to me about it but told said uncle about the SA. @jjraak good call on remembering The Threadfather. Today's Advent poem and art https://malcolmguite.wordpress.com/2021/12/16/advent-good-wishes-by-david-griev . Have yourself any kind of day that floats your boat but remember just because you can't do everything doesn't mean you do nothing and reflecting on other's viewpoint and needs is 180 degrees from carrying their monkey around.

Three parter. @jjraak the attached shows all the useful tools for a post greyed out. I tend to write my posts in google docs first so I can format, add hyperlinks to words etc but this won't transfer for love nor money. Hope that explains. I wondered if a text/rtf format would fool the forum into playing nice. Now seems emjois won't work either despite showing before I press save.

Found him.
Panic over.
That was a panic and a half.
My brain is doing the blockbuster movie thing again.
That he has been taken by some idiot cat society, from wherever he was protecting Jade, and I am searching hither and thither, and it ends as in the Boy in Striped Pyjamas ...
I am calling and calling, and Midnight appears as if by magic, totally covered in dusty cobwebs...
I want more trail cameras in that back garden...

It used to be Camp's Chicory (liquid) coffee years ago...
Thanks.

How did those 2 paragraphs just disappear? Pressed the space bar and hey presto! they were gone. Start again.

I had planned the spend the day wrapped up well and in the heat provided by my little kitchen convector heater but the plan has now changed. DIL phoned from a charity shop in the town to say they have a motorised wheelchair for sale for £40 and did I want my name put on it. Of course. That might make life easier for Neil (that also disappeared, but it was only one word) but it might be a problem getting it into the car. We shall have to see. The shop will reserve it for 24 hours, so we will go shortly, while the weather holds and the roads are reasonable. I'll put an even bigger jumper on over the top of the ones I am wearing and a coat over the top, to keep the cold out.

Hopefully the optimistic will morph into a winner when you return with the new wheelchair. Thoughts, prayers, best wishes for you. Sounds like a bargain and potential game changer.

Fingers crossed for you. I am rooting for you to get it, and that it will be perfectly suitable for you @Annb

Sounds ideal @Annb - hopefully it will easily go into the car.

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen.

Another 4.6 this morning, yesterday was 6.4, the previous 2 days were 4.6, what is it with the digits 4 and 6?

A mixed bag of posts to catch up on and I am in admiration of the numbers of layers @gennepher is wearing, me, me’s and myself wear multiple layers.

On Fridays we usually go for a walk then have lunch with some friends, but with the outside temperatures the walk has been cancelled, call me a wimp if you want.

Now for some not pleasant news, Mrs J has informed me that I have to have a hair cut before Christmas, I am of that generation that had long hair and still wants to wear hair long, the phrase if you’ve got it flaunt it. I have it. Mrs J should be grateful I don’t have a pony tail, hmmm I shall think about that.

Question
Does anyone else swap the Christmas ornaments around?

Now I must depart, stay warm, remember it is still a wonderful world, bring a smile to a strangers face, it costs nothing and confuses them.

Edit
Mrs J has spotted the rearranged Christmas ornaments.

No. It would needlessly stress a 15 month old out now he knows where the singing, snowing Santa is and how to activate him following extensive tutorials from his sister and cousins. Why make his life harder when those who should make it easier appear to be busting a gut to ensure he and his peers have the worst start they can possibly engineer? All personal viewpoint though but the attached doesn't appear too harsh IMHO. Peace be with him but I'm blowed if I can see any other exit strategy than an embarrassing climb down after we all suffer needlessly. He has negotiation in his armamentarium. So no, since I can't do anything about our leaders but I can about that aspect of the little guy's happiness.

I just found my two shawls when I took one of my dressing gown layers off, so that's where they were, I have been looking for them the last two days...

No, I do not move Christmas ornaments around @alf_Josiah But when I used to attend important dinner parties, this is quite long time ago(about 25 years ago), I had a special outfit I made myself and it was reversible fabric. One side was plain grey and one side had red roses on it.

So the top was fully grey apart from the red roses which was pulled over as a trim around the two sleeves and it was in reverse when I wore it inside out. The skirt was plain grey, with the reverse fabric grey and tiny red roses turned up as a trim on the bottom and the whole thing was in reverse when I wore it the other way. So between the top and the bottom there were quite a few combinations I can make it.

We all met at an artist exhibition, and each time I went to the toilet I changed one item of clothing so I turned the skirt inside out and went back in the room and then a bit later on in the evening I went back to the toilet and I changed the top inside out and I carried on doing this. We then went on to my father's where my evil stepmother was hosting a dinner party for prominent artists and their agents. Anyway I continued changing this outfit into different combinations, just turning the top or bottom inside out each time. And about halfway through the evening my evil stepmother came up to me, I don't know what it is you're doing gennepher, but stop it.

What is it I am doing I asked my evil stepmother, I don't know gennepher, she replied, but just stop it.

My father came up to me and asked me what it was I was doing to upset his wife. Perhaps you can tell me I replied, she has just verbally attacked me in front of a room of influential people. I think you better sort her out, I told him, and walked away. Her face was red as a beetroot. Apoleptic might be the right word.

No one realised what it was I was doing.

And she really was an evil stepmother. I have plenty more stories there...

My father and the evil stepmother both absolutely hated my partner J. They caused so much trouble for him and me. They couldn't stop him going to the art exhibition, it was for all. And guess what, J won the prestigious coveted art prize that evening, which gave my evil stepmother an ugly lemon sucking face.

My evil stepmother made it very clear to J at the art exhibition that he was not welcome to go on to her dinner party.

But that was okay, because J had already given me inside information on the lives and shenanigans of these people when they were younger, because J was part of that select group in their younger days. J had quite a few scores to settle...

J already knew what I was doing with my reversing parts of my outfit from time to time, because I told him at the art exhibition, and I wanted feedback from him. He couldn't wait until I got back home to tell him what transpired at the dinner party.

Carry on moving the ornaments around Alf, do it to the unsuspecting older children...(Mrs J is wise to your games).

I have someone in my family with a narcissistic personality disorder and it was really upsetting to deal with them and to try and keep the peace. I often resorted to biscuits to help me cope with it.

On one occasion they said that they were cutting all contact with a family member and I must also cut all contact with them. I said no - I was not doing that and was promptly also cut off.

Life has definitely got a lot nicer since then and I haven't tried to get back into their good books. Actually one family member who got cut off got back into favour by begging on hands and knees on their doorstep after spending the night on the doorstep begging through the letter box. There is definitely no way I would do that.

Dealing with the person over the years had been quite difficult and in the end I did have counselling which did help a lot.
Don't think my sister has a personality disorder. She just tries to manage everyone. So she informed me that I am responsible for organising next year's boxing day party!!! No way am i able to do that.

Trying to manage everyone is definitely a personality disorder. The impact is hurting you and one would guess many others. Would she come to France next year if you said fine we will happily hold it here? Plays into the moving ornaments and tormenting evil stepmothers others would advocate with the added bonus of far better food and drink. Not for me and judging by what I read beyond the lines you write you either but it may be worth a try.

@ianpspurs I didn't dare reply to @SlimLizzy what I was going to advocate for her next year's Boxing Day party (but Ian, you gave a good suggestion), after remembering my mischievous past with the evil stepmother, who, if you knew all about her, deserved much more than what I was able to dish out to her. She had dished hell out to me when I was younger...

Now I am going to disappear for the rest of today, before I cause trouble...

Hug for the evil stepmother and attending dinner parties ever for people like me. I think I've largely avoided them for 67.5 years. I can cope, even be at ease, with family meals with JKP, my sons, their partners, grandchildren and MIL. Beyond that and one aunt I'm pretty uncomfortable. I've no idea what value I could possibly add to any other lives now I can't play sport and don't teach/manage. COVID avoidance has provided perfect cover for me - anyone else?
