What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

FBG 12.7 at 3.20 this morning. Currently 10.9. Took larger dose of painkillers at 4.20 in the hope of getting my hip to operate. So far, no progress. One cup of tea and some water so far, but I have to think about some breakfast soon.

Edit: Hip pain reduced, so I can get around a bit better. Able to stand long enough to make mushroom soup for breakfast.

Morning all from a bleak - other freshwater fish are available - Piggery Pokery with immense firepower. I haven't enquired as to my fbg - does that make me a bad person? According to my reading about, listening to and looking at diagrams/artwork on The Divine Comedy I've corrupted lots of other original blessings. Hence going around in circles. I'm going to order a copy of Kirkpatrick's Purgatory and circle round, upward hopefully, for a while. Meanwhile, mahoosive veggy and garlic trivet under the slow roast lamb - no anchovies today, cook (do I now call her Beatrice?) says no - which should, along with my grandchildren - little guy is the best granddad hugger of the 7 (same colour eyes must be the reason) - give a warm glow whatever the NLD outcome. Levy out is tending in places I look but your mileage may vary. Hugs for @Annb because of the hip pain and @dogslife because of the bg issue. Neither of which are what God, or you, wanted or wants, hence the very correct feelings of this isn't right. Which segues neatly, in my odd mind , into hugs for UK plc. This time for what seems to be a failure to use the opportunity to serve the whole nation as God intended when He gave you the chance not indulging a narrow, prosperous, faction to cling to office/hold a fractured party together. Spoiler alert, can't be done R. Too much reading of Amos lately? Oddly, pretty much the same outcome IMHO. @gennepher thanks for sharing the creative which made me ponder what I'm not seeing. I've never been diagnosed as colour blind so I'll look again more carefully. Thanks. @Krystyna23040 enjoy shopping for blinds - I won't do the old joke about the blind man and the bathroom. Enjoy your day even after reading this from the village crazy.

Good morning all. Fast heartbeat and very thirsty so tested early and fbs was 19.2. Wrong direction! I had been to the bathroom and washed hands first so that may have contributed. Will have a few blueberries and natural yoghurt for breakfast and take 2 Gliclizide & beta blocker then test again in 2 hours. Fingers crossed. Enjoy the rest of your week-end folks and stay warm. It's chilly out there. :) Update: Retested 1 hour after breakfast and 2x 80mg Gliclizide---increased from 19.2 to 20.3 then after 2 hours ----further increase to 21.3! What am I doing wrong??? Next HbA1c not due until the end of this month. Nothing else to eat now until my salad lunch at 12.30. I am so hungry!:hungry:
Oh @dogslife ...what a start to the day.

I doubt you're doing much wrong.

We all have other symptoms most likely, that need medicinal attention.

Beta blockers have a reputation for increasing blood sugars.

A quick Google reveals a plethora of results.

Some BP meds better for type 2's then others.

I'd suggest a meet with docs to discuss, might be in order ..mmhh.

And being thirsty, I have read can also raise your BG levels .

I guess it's a case of 'less diluted" and as my weighing scales mention 'smoothness'.
I think in terms of my interiors, I suspect.

I doubt it does any harm, but taking the time to drink as much of a pint of water as you can, may help slightly..
Then retest an hour or two later to check if it did help in some way ?

Keep a Record of BG results, if you don't already, and I hope you get a sensible response from your doctor...<Pray>

Me too! We didn't go camping as children but my husband was fond of going out for a few days with the boys (so I went too). To me it's just plain inconvenient. Why make things harder than they need to be? The boys used to look forward to camping trips though. Neil doesn't do anything so frivolous now, but Alistair and DIL take the family on camping weekends when the weather suits.
When my girls were young they loved camping and so did I. Mr K hated it so we often went camping when he was working away. I have such happy memories of our little adventures.

I think that when I reached my late 30s I began to agree with Mr K that a cottage was much more comfortable and enjoyable.

My daughters still love camping now.

Got fed up with my beard that I only had since beginning of December, so shaved it off after church on line this am and it feels good.

The service was excellent, taken by lay preacher who was once head of local middle school and head of maths.
She taught my two at the local comprehensive many moons ago, youngest is 53 today and eldest 60 in September. So Betty is well into her 80's and sneaking up to 90.

A happy birthday wish to your daughter lindisfel. She's the same age, minus a couple of months, as my younger son. Em suggested on her birthday (last August) that, rather than celebrate birthdays, we should celebrate the parents' "giving birth day". She made a special card to that effect for her mum. Not a bad Idea, I think.

Thank you jjraak for your advice. The planned salad lunch didn't appeal on this cold day and I was very hungry so had a 2x egg and cheddar cheese omelette instead. 2 hours later my bs was 15.6- not good but better than earlier. I have just booked my HbA1c test for 25th so will book a follow up review with the doctor who increased my medication once the results are back. Interesting re what you said---that I take my beta blocker and my Gliclizide together with breakfast and both blood pressure tablets at night. Makes you wonder! Best wishes. :)

When one is having such a low carb diet and still having high blood sugars there is a need to check if the pancreas is producing any insulin.
But I guess you have been through all that @dogslife?
D.

Thank you for that thought@linisfel. I will discuss that possibility when I see the doctor again. At my last appointment it was said that if this maximum dose of Gliclizide and Metformin didn't improve things they would change my medication completely but you may well be right. As far as I know I haven't been tested for that. Do you know what it involves? I have been low carbing for a long time and my levels were under control but started to rise with no obvious explanation and have continued to do so despite increases in medication. I have also been prescribed a mixture of medications over that time for other conditions and suspect some of those or the combination of may be contributing. Your day in Cumbria sounds lovely. Two thirds of a mile sounds good to me especially followed by a peaceful sleep. Best wishes. :)

Hi @dogslife,
The test that can be done is the C peptide test. C Peptide is produced by the bodies insulin, therefore is an analogue of body insulin.

It is not the normal test G.P.s in the UK would do,
It would possibly be on the say so of an endocrinologist to get it done.

You can but try, are you under an endo for difficult diabetes?
Best wishes
Derek

Thanks@lindisfel. I googled it after your last message. I am not under an endocrinologist. No-one has ever mentioned the possibility. 2 hours after my evening meal of a slice of turkey( fresh not packaged) and above ground veg my bs was13.9 Nothing eaten between meals just drinks of black tea and water. I have a growing list of issues to discuss with the doctor-quite a challenge in a 10 minute appointment! Best wishes to you too. :)

I had a c-peptide test done a couple of years ago which showed that I was producing insulin - however, it wasn't done as a fasting test, so I don't know if that affected the result. I asked a GP to get the test done but he didn't actually know what it was and had to look it up before arranging it. This was in Scotland so maybe things are done differently here. An endocrinologist has never been mentioned to me either. I suppose knowledge and treatment differs depending on where you live.

Edit: fixed typo.

Not sure what is happening this morning. I think I have been over-reacting to a recently prescribed pill. It's not a serous or dangerous reaction but it is very uncomfortable. I wasn't happy about taking them anyway because the instructions warned against taking them if there is any problem with the liver (I have cirrhosis, apparently). One side effect mentioned was that it could cause dryness. Another is that, being an opiate, it could cause constipation. It has done both! The dryness is awful causing even my throat to close up. Drinking only alleviates it for a few seconds. I've decided just to stop taking it. It will take a day or so to get out of my system, and meantime, I expect to feel pretty grotty and have BGs all over the place. 10.9 this morning (3 am). That's with the fingerprick test - Sensor fell off with only 2 days to go and I couldn't get the top off the new one until Neil came through - must be getting weaker.

Speaking to my brother last evening and came to the conclusion that, despite, at 80, being nearly 3 years older than me, most of his life with a dodgy heart valve, polio as a child (1948 epidemic) and his recent 2nd heart valve replacement, he is back to doing (sensible) DIY jobs, walking, driving, helping with housework and is much fitter than I, who was always the robust and healthy one. Life's odd.

We all have our own crosses to bear, and I suppose he has had his own, different ones to mine. That's life!
