What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning everyone on a day that promises to be a little warmer than yesterday here in the dark and dangerous north. Wonder how many layers that means? Another birthday appeared yesterday - great nephew became one year old so a good excuse for grown ups to meet at local Rugby club - bring a child or just claim one. Grandparents and Great Grandparents get a free pass for starting all this mess in the first place. Great occasion for a catch up but hope I don’t catch anything else with so many people wanting to hug despite the full PPE with matching hat and gloves. A barge pole would have been more useful. Still, the inclusion of a curry (no rice please) was very pleasant amid the usual high carb alternatives and just how quickly can you peel a pork pie? Nice video catch up with one of my brothers once we got home. He lives in a place called Valkenberg which is in Limburg, Netherlands but we get to see each other virtually. Art bit, started adding some detail but didn’t get much done. Have a smashing day if you can, I am under strict orders to wake Mrs Miggins at the precise time of 0918 - weirdo. Now, where is that cafetière.

Great detail. Bringing it to life....

Never a nice job, but a litter tray liner makes it a bit more pleasant ....mmhh
MrSlim insists on turning off the water when we go away. I suppose it's a wise precaution, but I use clumping, flushable, biodegradable litter and her litter tray is right next to the toilet. So it's a very simple job indeed if tackled regularly. Morning and evening. This type of litter seems to do a good job of controlling odour as well. .
Now that Kiki is spending more time outside there is far less need for cleaning her toilet.
I will have to provide bags for when we are away.

It felt cold in the bedroom this morning.
So didn't get up with alarm, snuggled down, slept until MrSlim's alarm sounded 30 mins later and even then was a long struggle to get up. Poor Kiki, breakfast an hour late. She seemed very hungry indeed.
Trip to UK. Son2 will be in London on weds so no go for lunch that day, but we will see him on Sunday. Hoping for a pub visit to watch six nations with him before we dash off to the midlands to stay with Mum. So far mostly as planned.
Am not enjoying this cold weather, but I shouldn't complain. After all I did ask for it. Wanted the frosts to kill off garden pests and hornet queens. Big increase in hornet population last couple of years due to unusually mild winters.

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen, well those that woke up, the others? Well rest in peace.
Blood sugars this morning were a disaster darlings, an absolute disaster. 4.3 a flurry of sliderule end swapping, log tables, multiple tea bag readings a knowledge of the outside temperature and knowing me, me’s and myself will be active in the cold this morning. Insulin dosage arrived at, breakfast modified and consumed.

Must pause this posting, Mrs J has surfaced and is demanding her morning tea, back and front in a few moments………I know my place, under her thumb it seems!

Here in Tilehurst Towers the morning will be physically active in the cold, but the afternoon will consist of sitting in front computers trying to catch up on the mundane.

Now it’s time to make a safety koffy, take medication and wish you all a pleasant day.

Stay safe, warm and whatever floats your boat.

Morning all on a sunny, clear blue skied but bitterly cold start here. @Krystyna23040 -7 was also the alleged staring point for my day here. @dunelm yesterday sounds as though it was both challenging and rewarding which covers all gatherings these days. Was it ever thus or is nostalgia not what it used to be? Thanks for the latest development of the art. Good news on the catch up with your brother - virtual is far less problematic for risk assessment. Zahawi meant to use less electricity today or some other Monday? Such a taxing issue. Hug for the cold, scheduling issues and poop collection worries @SlimLizzy. Six nations watching all good. Pub going must be challenging these days like @dunelm's gathering. @Annb winner for the effort and care you are putting in to the cows milk or not cows milk issue.Today, according to the instructions sent, I need a comfortably full bladder??? - no me neither. I'm concerned the NHS may not have an adequate supply of anaesthetic jell for Mr Floppy post Trussenomics but that may be project fear - or not. The Big Red Bus and those with better opticians assured us of riches beyond measure so keep calm and drink tea Ian. The beef yesterday was as good as beef can be but salmon salad just plays in a higher league these days. Managing bg levels via diet has become relatively easy - famous last words. Enjoying the food or integrating LC into a sensible family life no longer works if I'm honest. Everyone else was delighted with the meal. MIL ate as hearty a meal as she has for ages and was visibly delighted. Thanks be to God for that. Y'all have your own judgements of Solomon to make on many issues and I genuinely wish you the very best of luck with that today and always. There's no I in team but we'll see tonight if there's any in fight or skill as understood by Spurs. Toddle pip.

Not all dogs are equal. Siberian and Alaskan Huskies must have hardy pads!

I imagine St Bernards and Newfoundlands are equally hardy but the 2 that we know would much rather stay indoors, preferably snuggled up on someone's bed, for as much of the day/night as possible. The pups haven't been allowed outside yet - they are coming up on 8 weeks old.

There's something odd going on with the forum - has anyone else found that some posts are not showing up? I get notices that there are more posts and do I want to see them, I click to let them be shown and nothing happens. I just had an e-mail about a post from Ian which isn't showing up on the thread either.

I deleted one Ann and haven't added any since the 10.41 one you kindly rated like. Curiouser and curiouser.

I get oddities from time to time when I try to post it won't let me, if I persist I lose what I wrote.

The guy from church who helped getting our food during the pandemic and transporting me to hospital has a daughter in the Hague. He went over at Christmas because they are grand parents of very recent twins.
From what he told me about Holland, Boy this country is backward in comparison!
We'll soon be a third class country run by a corrupt oligarchy.

I once had to look in a house over the Christmas period when the owners were away. And one morning when I went in the water was pouring through the ceilings the ceiling had collapsed and it was the water tank in the attic that had a burst or something. All I could do was turn the water off (with the aid of an umbrella to keep me dry), but they hadn't left any contact details so there was nothing I could do about it until they came back home....

One very bad winter - probably about 30+ years ago, Neil was living in a rented house about half a mile from us. He had just broken up with his girl friend and she had left (his Crohn's disease was just getting going and he wasn't the easiest person to live with, I guess). I called in to find him looking pretty much at death's door, the house in a mess and him just prostrate on his bed. So, what does a mum do? I ordered him out to the car, locked up and took him home. Didn't occur to me that being cold as it was, it might freeze. A few days later, I went back to get some things for him to find the whole ground sheathed in ice - water frozen from what had overflowed from the house. The water tank (which has to be said was in a ridiculously exposed but inaccessible place) had burst a pipe, brought down the kitchen ceiling and flooded the whole house! What a job to just get the water out, then to sort out the debris, then to get the ceiling repaired. I had just never thought to turn the water off. I know better now.

It does seem like that. My brother has lived in the Netherlands for a very long time and speaks two provincial languages (North Holland Dutch and Limburgish). He used to make bespoke Harley Davidsons and lived in North Holland (The Hague is in South Holland) - both provinces even though we Brits say Holland for all of it. They sorted bicycle lanes out years ago as well as flooding - why we don’t get their flood engineers over here to sort that bit out is beyond me.

I am late today.

Fbg was .. I forgot...

I had an early appointment at the surgery with the asthma nurse. At least that was my understanding.

It was below freezing.so, maybe black ice on the steep hill. I take care speed wise, others don't. But a guy in his car sort of started going round in a circle and ended up facing the wrong way, and the rear end of the car ended up on the grass verge. I stopped. He was okay, but with being deaf, I couldn't ring anyone for him. Someone else stopped, I passed the baton over to him, and got to my appointment 15 minutes late.

The 'asthma' nurse asked me a few questions, asked what my peak flow was, and then said I had to come back next week to see the head nurse. And I am thinking 'really...you (the surgery) made me come in on an icy wintry dangerous to drive morning just for this level of service'. These questions could have been done online, she did no tests or anything, and then an appointment made with the appropriate person based on my online answers. Saves everyone's time.

Got back home. Was very tired.

Still doing the editing on yesterday's wildlife cameras. About a quarter way through a painting.

I have no inclination to finish either now, not for today.

But when I got home Midnight was on the garage roof. I have never seen him on there since that day he first arrived in April/May 2022.

I took a photo of him.

Then something occurred to me. He could see my car driving away when I went out this morning from that garage roof, and he could see when I came back from the garage roof.

Then something else occurred to me. On the trail camera, the wildlife camera, the foxes, the badgers, and the cats all look up to that corner of the garage, and I was thinking it was a bird or an owl or something. But I am now coming to the conclusion that is where Midnight has been surveying his kingdom during the night watching over everything....

Here he is, watching his kingdom...

And I am going to veg out for the rest of the day just drinking cups of tea...

It's expensive but one has to leave the heating on in winter.
