What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

abetic frienBG at 4.30 am was 10.9 and a short time ago, 11.4. On my 2nd cup of tea and trying to motivate myself to get going with today's tasks (finishing off the food for "afternoon tea"). Dishwasher was put on at 4.30 and is ready to be emptied. Washing machine was only put on half an hour ago, so it will be a short time yet before it is ready to empty. I suppose I could do something about breakfast but I'm not really bothered about eating yet. I ended up just picking little bits from my baking to check for flavour and texture but not actually eating anything other than a few bits of Gouda yesterday, so I should be hungry. In fact, I'm just tired and drooping. Time to finish my tea and decide whether to push myself or doze in the chair for a while.
I dozed for about half an hour and then got stuck in. The Syrian lady turned out to be Afghani but the same restriction applied. There were 6 visitors altogether - just as well I'd made plenty. My diabetic friend enjoyed the oatcakes and took a whole load of them away with her (I can't eat them, so just as well for her to take them). She preempted me in offering to take them home with her as I was putting cupcakes into containers for the children of the Afghan lady and the Thai lady (one of the extras). However, she wouldn't even try the zero carb muffins I'd made. or the salad (wrong mayonnaise contaminating it). I don't want anyone to be ill after eating my food, of course, but I wish I'd known the parameters before hand. On the whole though, it went well and they've all gone away rejoicing.

So far today I've eaten one zero carb cheesey biscuit , one zero carb muffin and one oatcake (BG started to drop too low - nothing better than an oatcake to fix that for me) and a few cups of tea. There's all that left-over food and I'm not hungry!

Edit: the muffin wasn't zero carb - it was low carb. The only sweetener was a banana and some very dark chocolate in 6 muffins.

I'm not surprised they went away rejoicing after such a spread prepared with so much love and care. God bless you.

I was rejoicing as well, Ian. Partly because it gave me the chance to rest my very sore legs and feet and mostly because I had seen people enjoying my food. It gives me such a lift when that happens.

Fell asleep in the chair and woke a few minutes ago, confused and disoriented. I thought I must be in bed, but Neil was moving dishes around so I had to be in the kitchen. Stiffened up laying back with my feet up and had great difficulty moving. But I managed it in the end (it was touch and go). Perhaps I'll give the Move More class a miss tomorrow.

Morning all from a very, very sunny LA. Everyone who went to Wales returned safely to the same place they started from. What just happened will take time to process and no single answer will suffice. Importantly, MIL seems to have experienced what she wanted. @Krystyna23040 great news on Archie - is Librela available for humans? Enjoy Oxburgh Hall. @gennepher hug for whatever is causing the stress and thanks for sharing the photo of that part of your domain. @dunelm thanks for sharing the progress of the latest piece of art. Is the gradual restoration of these structures a metaphor and is koffy almost a sacrement? 7 gms birthday cake leaves the bg unmoved in my experience but I guess a slice is nice :D @Annb amazing love and selfless care for those guests. Do take your rests and don't try to be perfect. Attached caught my eye in the more woke services - usually the ones with a Starbucks and Waitrose. Have a good day people -
Thank you @ianpspurs
Much appreciated.
I am glad that mother-in-law seems to have experienced what she wanted.

Good morning everyone on an au jour d'aujourd'hui of a Montag and Dé Luain here in the dark and dangerous north. 25th June is fast approaching so I hope that you have your Christmas lists all in order. 5.6 on the gom jabar this morning. Well, OK. Another birthday looms and this time it’s Mr pickle, our grandson - when will it end? Before you know it there will be somebody banging on about an anniversary or some such. Anyhow, art bit, not a great deal of progress but it’s been a busy time with the grand children who have now returned to their respective homes in readiness for school just as soon as teachers stop eating in to the school week with suspect training days. Hope your day is kind to you, I shall make koffy.

Somewhere I have a photo of my late husband, around the age of 19, so around 1953, in a urinal in France that was open to the street with just a shoulder high barrier to preserve some kind of privacy. No idea who took the photo - that was 10 years before we met so, I suppose it was another apprentice who found the whole idea strange.
I recall one of those urinals for men, out in the open, at a railway station near my house, in the 1980's. Shoulder height walls. Of course I had to peek inside to see what it was like inside! I am thinking, how sensible, you just let the rain clean it. Ladies had to ask the station master to open the waiting room to use the indoors toilet.

I used to cycle in the 1970's in this county, UK, and many of the men's toilets outside public houses in the countryside, had open-air men's urinals again, shoulder height. This was when I lived in Leicestershire @Annb

In the late 1960's and in 1970's some pubs still banned ladies, or they were banned from certain rooms in the pub, and they did not provide ladies toilet facilities. So, I used to station one of my (shocked) friends at the entrance of the men's outdoor urinals. There was usually a trough thing in the central part....
They must have thought ladies still wore ankle length skirts, so they could....without being seen...

Actually I did wear ankle length clothes...I was a bit way out then..

Ah, I can see the perspective in this now @dunelm
Make plenty of coffee!

Outdoor toilets, open to the sky - welcome to my primary school.

Drat spiffle plunk groan and stubbed toe on the bedroom furniture……
Yep not a good second start to the day, but waking up is always a good first start.

Blood sugars this Morening we a 4.6, insulin dose has been calculated, but how to raise my blood sugars over the magic 5 number without having a massive spike is now taxing what little analytical skills I have left.
Later this morning ( alternative spallings available) me, me’s and myself will have to be performing physical and cognitive demanding tasks, hence the pondering over…….oh hum. Boring, boring.

A 5 inch or 12.7cm diameter wheel has appeared on woodworking list possibly tomorrows task.

Now I bid you all a good day.

Morning all from a grey skied and much cooler L.A. JKP has been smitten with the gastric bug quite badly but so far MIL is fine. I have some tablets, for both exit issues given at the start of my treatment in case of side effects (I haven't had any), which are very effective. MIL was in the other house last week but obviously travelled with us and is here so ...... @gennepher thanks for the kaleidoscope and video plus the story of #loogate. @dunelm thanks for sharing the developing art. Happy birthday Mr Pickle - is it GCSE English day for him as today is the day?. Maths on Wednesday so a heavy duty few days for students, parents and carers. @Annb I'm glad you felt pleased people enjoyed your food despite the tiredness. Good idea to swerve move more imho. Have a good day.

Just sent an e-mail to KIrsty - a bit delayed because the shower decided to go on strike while I was in it, so had to wait before rinsing soap off - to say I won't be at the class today. No point making things worse than they already are. Still in the clearing up phase after yesterday so, with Neil's help, I'll reorganise my self and kitchen and try to get back to some kind of normal. Dishwasher working overtime at the moment. First wash cycle about 4 am, 2nd one about 9 am. Other things in the sink waiting for hand washing.

BG not checked until 5.30 when it was 8.9. Currently 9.5 but it will stop rising when I have some insulin and some breakfast. That will be soon.

Sorry to hear JKP has the gastric bug - not a good end to a holiday although not quite so bad as during the holiday! Hug for her plight. I do hope MIL avoids it. Best wishes for both of them.

Actually, the most important thing is that we both really enjoy what we are doing not the financial cost or gain.

Your greenhouse will produce lots of food in the future and that will contribute to saving the planet. No food miles, grown with minimal chemicals and also providing an enjoyable and healthy activity.

Hi krystina, Today will be harvesting the first crop of runner beans and more mangetout from my greenhouse. Unfortunately one of the runner bean plants died yesterday. It looks as if some creature has been gnawing on the stem but i can't find the culprit. There is a small amount of damage to the other three plants as well. It would be sad if they all die just as they are becoming productive.
Oops the mangetout will be from the garden... the greenhouse mangetout are nearly exhausted.

Good morning all. Had a reply text from the doctor I had sent my message to last week. ( He doesn't usually work in the centre on Mondays so maybe he answered from home?) Anyway he said he's seen my lab results and advised me to make an appointment with a doctor to discuss them. I rang straight away. After waiting foer 30 mins. I got through to the receptionist. There are no appointments available with the doctor whose been trialing different treatments but I have an appointment with another doctor on Thursday morning so I'll see what happens then. Hey Ho! Best wishes to you all for a good week ahead.:)

France used to be like that but perhaps it's changed from thirty years ago.
D
Still very much like that in many places esp the public toilets also occaisionally hole-in-the-floor toilets. Some of the public toilets have really effective flushing mechanisms. Usually manage to douse the whole cubicle. Have been known to come out of one of those wet to the knees.

@lindisfel am I right in assuming you are another June baby? Early congratulations and enjoy your time with your daughter. I share my birthday with the UKs worst ever PM and a cousin of mine - ridiculous to sublime there. @dogslife I hope Thursday's appointment is helpful for you. @Annb take it easy with the cleaning but I'm sure Neil will help. Thanks for the good wishes for JKP. No Dioralyte in this town but we brought 1 sachet back. We do have plenty of bottled water and access to my "stoppers" in extremis.. Not sure if this would be helpful but as a wider marginal gain may interest some - key ingredient in my salad dressing but cost has risen alarmingly since last big box ordered.

Would you like me to lend you my labradors @Annb. Your kitchen floor would be totally flour and crumb free in seconds.
Kiki might do a similar job. She searches the floor for anything remotely edible.

Interesting article on ACV. I wonder why it's only apple that does the trick. What about wine vinegars? Tom used to take ACV when younger but never reported feeling any better for it - he just adopted it when taking up a wholefood/vegetarian diet after a serious illness caught while in the Gulf. A good number of years ago now - must have been about 1954. It was popular then amongst folk taking up a "more healthy lifestyle"; not so many people doing that way back then.

I'm pretty sure my stomach wouldn't cope even with 1/2 and 1/2 water and ACV. It is OK though in a salad dressing with olive oil and mustard.

Our supermarket sells Imodium, which is just a commercial brand of loperamide - more expensive than the generic one, of course, but effective and, to be honest, in such extremis, nobody counts the cost.
