What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Fbg 6.5

I couldn't sleep last night. No idea why. Did all my usual stuff for sleep to no avail.

So I got up at 3 am.

Then I had a bright idea. I have never driven my new car in the dark yet. I might as well drive to the the postbox (I had some letters and postcards to post) and get a little practice in. There was something else I wanted to try as well. My new car is automatic, as was my last car. My last car was easy to keep at the 30 speed limit down the steep hill, but this new car was not. I was driving down the steep hill on my brakes to keep to the 30. But now we are 20mph my new car being on automatic I am driving the entire way down the steep hill on my brakes. I have only done it twice so far. So, I thought time to figure out the plus and minus sign on the D setting. My last car had a dedicated first and a dedicated second gear for steep hills and stuff, it was easy to use. This one you have to knock the drive setting to the right, and then knock it up (+) and knock it down (-) to get your gear. I found out it has 3 gears (useful), and a green light comes on when the car thinks you need to knock it up or down a gear. Green light was easy to see at night, not sure what it would be like in daytime.

I am driving up and down my steep hill in the dark before the rat run starts. And just in case I get stopped by police (which does happen) for loitering in the night (which happens, has happened), I have a bunch of letters and postcards on the passenger seat.

This shifting to manual is brilliant for going down the steep hill in 20 mph. I am now driving on my gears and do not need to use the brake once. So job well done, and I feel confident to do this when other cars are around now. I didn't have the courage to try something new in the daytime with other cars around speeding down the hill, all of them just using brakes, aall the way down. Presumably that is why some of them skid and end up in hedges or garden walls on the way down.

Yesterday I was sitting in my garden, looking at my sparrows feeding from the fatball feeders, when with no warning, and the sparrows did not have time to sound their alarm calls, through the tops of my trees and bushes at the speed of light, came a sparrowhawk who thought he was going to pluck a sparrow off the feeder while in flight. My sparrows slid up the heavily leaved branches, that I have surrounding the feeders, like greased lightning, and the sparrowhawk carried on his speedy flight, and left with nothing. It literally took a nano second. And if I hadn't been actually watching my sparrows I would not have known what happened right in front of me. It was so swift.

I was almost 100% certain the sparrowhawk had left with nothing. I waited for the sparrows to return, and they were all present and correct. Phew.

What I have done is cut some Buddleia down and temporarily made a canopy of branches and crisscrossing them so the sparrowhawk, I would assume could not plunge through. This canopy is over the bird feeders. I shall have to see.

I know it is a fact that larger birds have to prey on smaller birds/creatures to survive, but they are not doing it my garden. My garden my rules. This came about because we have buzzards (there is a lot of industry here and they hover for ages in the thermals, I think created by the steelworks and stuff), and they used to swoop on my cats. One buzzard took away one of my small cats from the potting shed roof. I saw it, and nothing I can do. I thought she had ended up being the buzzard's lunch. But a few days later she returned in a heck of a state, but still alive. The buzzard must have dropped her when it flew into the woods. And she was very neurotic after that experience. I was traumatised watching it happen in an instant from my window. None of my cats slept on open roof spaces after that.

Creative is that black ink shapes in the white china cup again. I put it through an app called Tiny Planets and then some photo effects!

I think I have done a full day's work by now!

Going to make a fresh cuppa.

Have your best kind of day whatever life is throwing at you!

Good driving practice, smart move with using gears. Lovely colours in this creative.

Morning all from a sunnier than forecast L.A. on Super Salmon (and Halloumi fries) Salad day. Fbg was probably the 5.4 I saw first. Can't be helped so I'll just have to wear it. @dunelm the COVID issue sounds as positive as it can be and thanks for sharing the wonderful art. @gennepher fantastic that you made good use of not being able to sleep and thanks for sharing another amazing creative. I love the way Midnight surveys the scene and nonchalantly stretches out a paw to show who is in control. @Krystyna23040 excellent news on the admin and your calendar being restored. Y'all have a good day now.

Thank you @ianpspurs for your compliments.

I need another nighttime practice because all along the dashboard was lit up with all these dials and different colours and information, brighter and more info than a pilot's cockpit. My last car didn't have anything like this! I need to see what of that info is appropriate/needed for nighttime.

I love the way Midnight acted so nonchalantly in that short clip as well!!!

Thank you @ianpspurs - feeling a lot better today than I did yesterday

When I was young a long time ago the doctors told my mother Liverpool was not a good place for me to be and that we should leave as that the environment would in time see me off and that is how we ended up in Devon.
Is that because of the accent?
It can't be the environment.
It can't be the luxury housing around then in the city centre!
It can't be the footie?I
It can't be the sewage, oil, chemicals in the river!
It must be the politics!

I have to agree with, whatever the reason, the logic is sound.
Moving to somewhere where you can breathe has to be healthy!

6.1 post physio appointment.
I was late cos taxi was! Shocking, as I had booked it with plenty of time!
I usually walk it, but the inclement weather was very moist and poodles everywhere!
However, my back is not the bedt, it is from my neck (spondylitis) working its way down, hence the sciatica, the muscles are very tight and was given even more exercise regime to untighten the muscles attached to my spine.
The physio guy really hurt, I still haven't got the relief from it yet!

As I have said really bad downpours overnight, lakes in the garden, won't be spending time there today! Grass needs a trim, will have to wait! No word from roofers!
Mrs L has people coming again next week, which is good.

I also have had a discussion with my counselling service. I am hoping to get a slot in the near future, I have explained where my brain is at the moment, and the guy was so understanding and is hopefully appointments will be forthcoming.

Wonder where inclement comes from? What has Clement done to deserve being labelled such?

Been interrupted by my doctors, it's time to book my next lot of blood tests, arrange it next week probably Monday, I hope that I've done enough to be considered at least prediabetic, if not back to non diabetic!
Here's hoping my hba1c is good!

Chores still to be done!

My bestest ever wishes to you all as always!

TGIF!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Good late afternoon Ladies and Gentleman and those that lament the passing of corporal punishment at schools mainly the staff.

Blood sugars this morning were 5.6 .

Here in Tilehurst Towers it’s been a bit of a day, at 8:30am me me’s and myself were working on the seemingly never ending wood store that I been asked to make, well a few minutes ago I finished it, all I have to do is wait for the varnish to dry and then take a few photographs which I will share on here possibly on Sunday. It can then be dismantled transported to its owner and re assembled before being put to use.

At 15:05 this afternoon I had my 8th covid jab, being a transplant patient on immunosuppressant drugs I’m in the extremely vulnerable category hence the number of jabs. Now I say the side effects of the jabs are nothing compared to side effects of my anti rejection drugs, I just smile sweetly at the whiners of the jab side effects and wander off.

In the last few days I have heard of so many folk that have caught covid I wonder what the infection rates really are.
Now I must depart to the chemist and give them my drug batch request possibly raising a laugh or two with some of the much maligned unfortunates who have to deal with me.

Stay safe all

I hope the further research proves useful/fruitful. @SlimLizzy hug for that extra large helping of stress which would cause most people to do more than eat a few biscuits. Thoughts and prayers with all concerned.
Thank you and you are right. Wine was also consumed. @ianpspurs

I think you needed those biscuits @SlimLizzy
Hugs for all the stress.
That is one heck of a list to comply by.
Hugs for baby.
My son had milk intolerance, and that was a nightmare for years. Health people and doctors were hopeless then in the 1970's. It doesn't look as though it is much improved.
Best wishes for Baby, and you and Mr Slim
Thank you. Biscuits and wine were consumed. @gennepher

For several years I used to get pneumonia at least once sometimes twice in the year and often double pneumonia.

Don't know about luxury housing we lived on Shaw Street at the time though as my Mother was the doctors receptionist we lived in the doctors premises in basement flat so was not so bad had the added benefit as he was the only doctor in the area it was a case of a doctor a day keeps the orange men at bay.

Marjorie was a hour in theatre fron 2.30 pm yesterday and just got out of hospital before 6.pm. it was a long day and she just had toast after the op and no drink to speak of after arriving early am.

Helen picked up fish, chips mushy peas at John Plaice and they were wrapped in our towels and we all had them at home.
Marjorie was uncomfortable by then she had had no pain killers only a local until she got home
It was a long day for her. She soon was sitting in a easy chair with her legs up on a support tucking into fish and chips.
It apparently went well.

Good morning everyone on a cloudy with a hint of breeze start the the day here in the dark and dangerous north. Saturday - I know this because it’s written on the blister packs of pills. Hope I don’t get out of step with them. A team in Japan reports that a high intake of milk and dairy products reduces the risk of developing dementia, especially Alzheimer’s dementia. Best write that down and pin it to the notice board of bewilderment next to reports of vegans not telling you that they are vegan for nearly 10 minutes. Sunny day yesterday so did get the lawns mowed - and then it rained. Art bit. As the last sheet of watercolour paper was removed from the cardboard backing, I decided to paint the backing - saving the planet by using everything available! Koffy is ready so best get at it.

A long and bruising day but nothing better than being back in your own home with a loving and caring family and a fish supper.

Great! I love painting on that backing paper or card. I love the beige/brown colour @dunelm

By the way Amazon often put some brown paper as protective packaging round my items. I get loads of that. Flatten or iron that, it makes great paper for sketching/pastels/painting etc, and you'll save the planet further!!!

Glad you seem to be feeling better.

I nearly forgot to say, I do love the bold vibrancy of this painting...
