Good morning everyone from what appears to be a fine start to a fine day here in the Old Smoke. Could be just a ruse to tease us into wandering about and then pour it down. Imperial War Museum yesterday and the poster below indicates that low carb diets were a big thing during WW1 - I think that dieting was pretty much mandatory. We have a planned sight seeing route this morning, having a look at things that we haven’t seen before and revisiting some old haunts. Forecast is good so may take our bathers over to The Serpentine. Art bit - I did some indian ink on wet a few days ago on some A5 paper. Hope your day is a good one. One day at a time - try not to break the chain. Now, where is that travel cafetière.
Enjoy the Serpentine @dunelm
It is nearly 70 years since I was last in it...
I had an attraction to water as a child...it might be more hygienic now...

Love the art bit...and the bread poster...

Creative..one line sketch...this woman was walking along with the short handle of her handbag over her arm, but the very long shoulder strap of the handbag was floating in the breeze...

Waking up slowly now with a cuppa...

Have your best day...

Hugs it's not to your approval or expected standards, @Annb
How very annoying.

Funny was for offering poor old Neil up as piano tuner.

Reminded me of this ....

At least someone else will be carrying the piano - and getting it up the stairs. Yes, it has to go up a set of stairs in my young friend's house. Neil will only be going to tune it once it is in place.

The exacting standards aren't mine. I can't get into the loft to see what kind of a job they've made of it, it's Neil who is dissatisfied with that. In the initial plan we were told that they would relay the floored central section of the loft above the new insulation. To us that meant extending the beams upwards to give clearance for the insulation. To them it seems to have meant cramming the flooring down on top of the insulation, compressing it. Less air space, I assume, means poorer insulation. Neil can fix it though - perhaps with some assistance from Alistair.

Good afternoon chums. Once again no fbg taken here but all menus meticulously entered into Cronometer FWIW. @dunelm enjoy London and thanks for sharing today's art. @gennepher thank you for sharing another wonderful sketch. @Krystyna23040 are you sure you aren't being too hasty packing away those thermals? @Annb good job Neil is so multi-skilled and patient. @jjraak enjoy Greece. @Lamont D good to hear you found the counselling helpful going forward. I seem to have become the target of some insect or other for about the first time I can remember. Very annoying so insect repellent now ordered which involved learning about DEET and the potential problems thereof. I must try on my new sun and insect protective trousers but I'm still waiting for this Tilley hat. Enjoy your Friday - salmon, salad and halloumi fries day here.

Just ordered wood to extend the beams in the loft to be delivered on Monday, so Neil can make a start on that job on Tuesday. Doing lots of cooking today, but not really in the mood to eat so it will all be for the freezer, but once bought the food has to be cooked or frozen. Best cooked and ready to go when I don't feel up to cooking.

Problem with the car so it has to go in to the garage on Wednesday to see if they can fix it. Fingers crossed.

Why do we cross our fingers? I know in some eastern countries it is to ward off evil, but where does the idea come from? Or perhaps it means something different in the east, if Wikipedia is to be believed. I shall be offended in retrospect! It was so long ago I wouldn't have understood anyway. In UK it seems to be a reference to the Holy Cross.

I think kephalonia is prettier.
Liked skala, loved anti samos...the most delightful of beach scenes, and the food flavours . omg.

Trip to fiskardo was nice.

In crete during my 20's travelled around on 250cc dirt bikes. Happy days
Even got a story of being arrested. Mad times .

Oddly our Steph is going there in July I think
Georgioupoli...not far from souda bay
close to the sunken submarine??
there is a nice small place on the east coast facing Ithica, the ferry port, name escapes me, but the food, as you say OMG! It was a local dish and I didn't care what was in it, as my RH hadn't revealed itself then. But I did discover cheesecake made from full fat yoghurt, I was tempted, and never had a reaction from my intolerance to dairy, maybe goats milk? But it was heaven.
there was another restaurant, that Mrs L fancied amongst other things (the waiter) a lamb dish, that made her so happy.
did you go on the boat trip to Onassis 's island?
or to Santorini? The climb was difficult but worth it. The view of seeing how it formed and the houses into the slopes. All blue and white. Drunk a lot of water that day.
Stunning places.

I have already posted that I too took a dip back in the Serpentine in the early 60's.

Wait for it...
FBG is.......
been in garden all day, cutting, tutting, putting, mowing and sowing.
all with the help of the well known terror #8.!!!
He was such a help, really helpful, so much so, I had to stop. To save my plants and his flower picking for his nan. He learned so much about moving tools, that he became a professional nuisance.
but you can't help squeeze and hug him.
Mrs L definitely had plenty of em for him.

Sunny, warm and yeah, summer is close now.

Ok enough.

I can't believe my FBG!
5.4.
What?
And then tested different to get 5.3.
Then another finger opposite hand, which was shaking so much, 5.6.
So I am having the first reading ok?
Not been this low for a long while and hope my bloods yesterday are good for it.

Have a fab Friday.
And a wondrous weekend.

My best wishes to you all.

I haven't mentioned my dreams.
Well, maybe tomorrow.
Same type of dream as always.

Anywho, dreams of Kephalonia and the tastes are foremost on my brain now!
Wishing and hoping, dreaming and wanting.
Aaaavgghhhh!

I have heard from others that Lesvos is a beautiful isle.
I have been to three and the mainland and visited others on boat trips.
Stayed on Kefalonia twice at Skala and Fiskardo.
Bed and Breakfast at Ithaca and the Homer stuff. No, not the Simpson fella.
And Crete, which was great for the beaches and the history (WWII)
But I wasn't impressed with the state of the island itself.
I was far more delighted with our first stay in Skala.
There's something about the incredible light @Lamont D on the mainland as well as the islands.

Lesvos is an extraordinary location for birdwatching, Crete fascinating for its archaeological sites and Rhodes a stunningly beautiful island with lush vegetation and wild flowers.

Friday's FBG 4.5 mmol on waking at 6.00 am

5.9 this morning. Relaxing with a coffee before classes. I actually have a 45 minute lunch break today. This week has been an easier week so am really up to date with admin.

Yesterday I started on my packing list for our little trip to the Suffolk coast in half term.

Perhaps one more coffee before getting ready to leave for Norwich.

Good morning everyone from a warm yet overcast and noisy start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north. Hot yesterday so we walked over Waterloo bridge, through the parks along the embankment and then cut through St James’s Park - more tree shade and, importantly ‘facilities’. Nice afternoon wandering about Mr King’s back garden - nice afternoon tea. Princess Ann forgot my name so I just kept calling her ‘mate’ - it’s a very popular name down here in the saaaf. Lots of blokes in red tunics saying to each other, “don’t tell him Pike”. One was an old friend of ours. He was at one time the most decorated soldier in the Army and Mrs Miggins looked after him when he came to us suffering with PTSD . He’s OK now, as much as you can be. Met Tony Blackburn, he walks quite stiffly. Mrs Miggins tried to kidnap Alfie Boe, Christopher Biggins wore blue slippers and Wayne Sleep was close to the ground. Couple of photos below. Art bit, in there somewhere. Hope you have a good day, we have a train to catch in a wee while.
