What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning everyone on another cold and overcast start to the last day of September for the big ships to sail down the ally-ally-o. Arguments about if that is about the Manchester ship canal or perhaps the Suez Canal or maybe just some playground needle threading song - take your pick Michale Miles but only in grayscale. 5.6 this a.m. after several bad yet pleasurable menu and bar choices last night. Brought home half my dinner in a box - far too much - some for tonight. Which is good as Mrs Miggins will be overnighting at our daughters. The Funicular is back up and running after an electrical fire closed it down last winter. Long delays due to English Heritage beard stroking and teeth sucking followed swiftly (a relative term) by H&S. Still, it was up diddly up up, in a conservation of energy demonstration which also saved wear and tear on both the cliff steps and our shoes. Art bit - a pair of trees and some paint pigment. Hope you have a pleasurable end of month day. I shall of course be making koffy and piling on some wooly layers and a hat reminiscent of Ernest Shackleton’s Burberry helmet - dead fashionable me like!

6.0 this morning.
Mr K took Poppy out really early to avoid the start of the heavy rain while I was showering and washing my hair in the warm house.
I really appreciated not having to go out in the cold and damp.

Today is really quiet so am taking my text books with me to do some studying between classes. So a really good day today.

Yes, I really enjoy trying different varieties. I used the huge yellow ones with pink insides to make chutney. Very pleased that it retained its colour.
Although next year I plan to have more plum tomatoes for cooking and fewer baby plum and cherry tomatoes.
Really though, this has been a poor year for tomatoes. Last year I made ratatouille and sauces and froze them, along with several kilos of uncooked tomatoes and some peeled and chopped ready for use. I also dehydrated a lot of cherry tomatoes and made several different types of chutney.
There are no tomato products in the freezer this year. However I have made two batches of chutney.
Having picked tomatoes and peppers from the greenhouse I might have eenough to make a batch of sauce.
Have just remembered, I made a huge mousakka with home grown onions, tomatoes, peppers, aubergine, chillies and herbs last year and froze eight portions. I had many peppers and aubergines last year. But this year they didn't germinate until third attempt. Very few fruit on either. Six peppers, three aubergines. Has simply been too cold and wet. Which has created a bumper crop of slugs and snails.

9.20am FBG 5.1
Overslept and groggy this morning. It's windy and the grass is wet from overnight rain. Hoping to empty the large pots that held tomatoes and dispose of sweet peas today. Maybe do a bit more raking up cuttings, but its a huge job and i know from experience can cause both elbow and shoulder problems. This is why i insisted on MrSlim buying a mower with a grass box. The thing only picks up dry grass cuttings. Damp grass clogs it up. So no use at all at the moment.
Have just set up the dehydrator I borrowed, two trays ready to go in. Last year found it works better if not too many on each tray. No red tomatoes ready to go in, think they need a couple of days ripening before drying them. Screenshot_20240930-105359_Gallery.jpg

Morning all from a soggy but fairly mild L.A. where my fbg remains a secret. I don't know if the combination of the meal yesterday and enjoying the football was the reason but my sleep hit my targets for length, wake up time and Fitbit score. Yes, I have targets for almost everything - 40 years a teacher, mostly under dubious Education secretaries, will do that to anyone. @dunelm thank you for reminding me of that nursery rhyme - I never associated it with needle threading, more marble playing actually - and your splendid art. Are portion sizes in eateries much larger in the D and D North? I have never found one which served enough for me to take any home. Could be my choices I guess, not keen on beer or dessert and restaurants have an interesting idea of what constitutes a selection of vegetables or salad. @Krystyna23040 yesterday sounds like a wonderful day, eventually, and once again Mr K goes above and beyond. @JohnEGreen interesting information about Da Vinci and trees - thanks for sharing. @Annb hug for the pain and cold - take care. I hope you all enjoy at least some of your Monday.

@dunelm
Did you know Da Vinci had a rule about trees
That the thickness of a limb before it branches is the same as the combined thickness of all the limbs that branch from it.
Interesting stuff @JohnEGreen - I wonder if that holds out with things like bayobab and bristle cone pines - will have to have a look. There is a Chinese manual of painting called The Mustard Seed Garden, complied in C17th that shows, amongst other things, how trees are painted (example below).

Thank you @ianpspurs - it was a large portion even for the D and D north and thankful that I did not choose a starter - I don’t do deserts. Here are some children Threading the needle.

Thank you for sharing the video. I wonder if our grandchildren have done anything similar?. In fairness to eateries, my attitude to eating out doesn't help. For years I have, on the whole, tried to smile and wave, keep my head down, pay and just get through. If JKP would allow (this is "an issue" which I simply can't understand. Except in coffee shops for desserts/pastries when all is sweetness and light) I would happily have tea while she and/or everyone else ate then I would eat at home, with some exceptions. The now defunct CAU chain, a hotel in St Ives Cambs (changed hands and now best avoided) and a wonderful restaurant "back home" - now closed. I'd eat the Gail's bakery breakfast (sourdough, avocado, poached egg, salmon and Lincolnshire poacher) in a heartbeat. Elsie Keto has made what was already an issue challenging. A carvery is usually the best of a bad bunch and hereabouts they are Sunday only with many of dubious quality but the chutzpah to charge top dollar.

Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen and those who populate this thread, but don’t feel comfortable fitting into the Ladies and Gentlemen categories.

Blood sugars this morning were 5.5 .

Now it time to depart.
Stay safe all and remember your wellingtons. Yep I am feeling smug because I was able to mow the front lawn yesterday.

@ianpspurs - Mr K does go above and beyond. Thank goodness because I couldn't do what I do without him.

Good afternoon from here @dunelm
Spell check kept changing that to @funelm

It is good that the funicular was finally repaired. I used to find them terrifying as a child....

I like your art bit....

Oh... So many rules in painting and drawing... I always throw away the rule book in every situation. But that's useful to know...

Thank you for that reminder of the mustard seed garden @dunelm
I did download it couldn't remember where I put it, amongst my hundreds of other PDFs and books I have downloaded. But I've just found it. Will have to put a better link to finding it. It is a brilliant book.

Can't get out our front garden without wellies or a boat. It is flooded as is my lawn and flowerbeds. Was going the shop, but I'm not doing it.
my back garden has a huge puddle as it has settled in the middle, footie pitches are waterlogged, the ducks are back, the birds are hiding in the trees.
this started around 9pm last night and just hasn't stopped. A severe drenching of everything.
