What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

A very unexpected development today.

I was teaching classes from 9.45am and being with the class members really helped my state of mind following Poppy's passing. They are like friends more than they are class members. In the same way as you are friends and not just forum members.

I was feeling concerned about Mr K as he was so sad and seemed lost without Poppy. I was worried about him on his own at home.

He picked me up from Norwich classes and we rushed back so I can teach my late afternoon Zoom.class. He said to me 'I want to show you something after the Zoom class'. I was intrigued.

After the Zoom class we did an absolutely crazy thing.

Grandchildren had spoken to Mr K today and told him he must get another dog. So he started researching reputable breeders and found a lovely little yellow Labrador girl in Littleport and asked me if I thought it was wrong to even think about getting another dog so soon after Poppy's passing. As he looked so much happier than he did this morning I said no - it wasn't wrong.

So we rang the breeder, knowing that it was highly likely she had been allocated a home. No, she was still available. We had a long chat with the breeder and had to fill in a questionnaire to assess our suitability to buy the puppy.

The outcome was that tomorrow morning we are going to Ely to meet the puppy and its mum and brothers.

I still can't believe this has happened.

Looking forward to hearing about the Labrador puppy. May she bring both of you some comfort and much joy

Thank you @gennepher. I think you are right - she is meant for us.

Mr K said that he looked at several kennels and this one felt really right.

I looked up the reviews on Redacre Kennels in Littleport and they confirmed everything I felt after talking to the owner Stacey yesterday.

We still miss Poppy hugely but it does feel as though a black cloud has lifted a little.
 
Morning all from a chilly but bright Breckland. I don't know my fbg so I can't share that gobbet of trivia which almost certainly will in no way adversely impact your life. @Krystyna23040 good news on the puppy, for you and the lucky dog. Littleport is a place we know well (the breeder looks to be near the Leisure centre, right on the edge of The Real Fens: is it on or near the wonderfully named Camel Road?) and is where we are looking to relocate since #3 son is there, where my drip trips were/could be in the future and it is close to Ely. Not home but it is in Cambs. Think flannel shirts, winter bags, very thick jumper and Tefal Powermix for hot soup (with a dash of ACV) - a kind of hot salad :woot: - work for me in this weather but your mileage may vary. JKP is still suffering from a combination of bad back, IBS and/or diverticulitis so I'm a poor version of a domestic deity. Somehow we'll organise the roasting of a shoulder of lamb for lunch: sometimes one has to take one for the team :D Stay warm and safe.

Good morning everyone on another stunner of a day wobbling our way round a giant nuclear reactor as we hurtle into the expansion of bewilderment. Reminds me of a student who, when working on a problem involving a mass on a slope asked if he should include the effects of the moon’s gravity! High functioning autism at its best. I had forgotten that our monthly Farmers Market is not on in January so no sourdough and no kimchi. Breakfast club - wasn’t hungry but the company was good and Mrs Miggins had a bacon bun. This morning looks like taking The Girl In The Bubble down to the prom so that she can wobble her way along on her bike and annoy pedestrians. Confidence comes with practice. Art bit - house-boat. May your day be free of annoyances - I am reminded that the only thing that I truly possess is my ability to make choices - and my next one is to make koffy.

Good Morening Ladies and Gentleman, contrary to what I will write in a few moments it is a good morning, I woke up and stretched my arms out and didn’t touch wood therefore I wasn’t in a coffin, hence a good morning. A simple view point.

Blood sugars this morning were firstly 3.6 and secondly 4.1 . Drat and double drat, grrrr. My breakfast has been altered along with my insulin dose!

It’s good to read that a new puppy has been sourced, but sorry to read that Mrs @ianpspurs is still under the weather, get well soon.

Mrs J also suffers from that dreaded condition, Irritable Bowel syndrome, sorry I’ve written that wrongly, Mrs J suffers from that dreaded condition “Irritable Husband Syndrome “ or so she tells me, but I’m not sure because I never listen to her.

Stay safe, stay warm and I don’t think today is a good day to go skinny dipping.

It’s been a few years since our Sox passed still miss her.
Keiran has been thinking of getting a dog again I’m not sure as he was looking at Bernese mountain dogs bit to big for our small house.
But is now thinking of getting a cocker spaniel bit more sensible a friend of ours has recently got a rescue dog a 10 year old grey hound to my mind a bit of a strange choice for a disabled woman in her 70s but she seems happy with her choice and that’s what counts.

Thank you for sharing another of your splendid pieces of art and (almost) deathless prose. I spotted the houseboat thank you. Is the grey series to use up whatever it is one uses for such pieces or something deeper. Please say it isn't a subconscious impact from THAT book/film. The dolorous shades do capture the after the Lord Mayor's Show feel of January, especially this cold snap. Even the air feels grey to breath imho. Enjoy the prom, must be cold on the sea front and LC hot chocolate is so Marvin and Tammy.

7 again.

It must be nearly two years since our patterdale passed.
There is a hole by the box, where he slept. I do think sometimes I can sense him.
Anyways, today changed from a day of rest, to a full spring cleaning attempt, that didn't last.
As the temperature is still -3° now. And doesn't seem to be going anywhere but down again this evening.
I'm having to occupy my time with things that need doing. Laundry, kitchen stuff and bedroom, never mind fixing the toilet seat, andbathroom. Just one thing after another as usual.
So I said nearly, Mrs L needed feeding so I put the box on and watching some prem team struggling v a non league team, you have to laugh at footie some times! Banana skin in a banana republic!
gammon is roasting. And any tips to how I get the meat so mouth watering melt in your mouth.
I only charge by the hour.

Have your bestest ever whatever you do.

Fbg 7.1

Went out this morning to pick up a parcel, and hopefully pick up a little bit of food...

I had a bit of a shock when I walked in the shop. It has two walls of chilled food cabinets one and a half walls of the chilled food cabinets were filled with soft drinks of every description. There was nothing I could eat in the the other half wall of the chilled food cabinet. It was all ready meals. There is normally 3 aisles of food in this shop. There was barely anything on one aisle.

I'll have to go out tomorrow and see if I can find anything food wise.

Six days of wildlife SD cards and it looks like all the beasties have stayed in their dens during this snowy freezing spell. Just clip after clip of freezing rain and frozen solid snow...
So no wildlife video today.... I'll have to find the SD cards of the old badger family from last year which I haven't published yet.

I had a bit of a tummy ache today, so I've not done much.

I took a couple of Kaleidoscope photos of a cushion and superimposed them over each other and here's my creative for today....

The like is for the kaleidoscope but hug for the sparse shelves and for the tummy ache. As usual - cold and icy weather and the supply system falls apart. Other countries have much worse conditions and seem to keep their supply lines running smoothly. Why can't we ever learn? I'm told it is because these kind of conditions are so rare here that it isn't worth making the investment in better systems, but that doesn't help people who use the services and have to do without.
 
@Annb thank you for the hug and prayers for JKP and the expression of confidence in me. I have been the domestic deity for 2025 but I haven't been green lighted to drive again yet. JKP had a battery of tests including colonoscopy which found diverticulitis in December. @gennepher hug for the shopping experience - is that due to bad weather disrupting supplies? and tummy ache. Thank you for sharing the super kaleidoscope.

Thank you @ianpspurs and no thought about any book/film nor Aragorn’s kinsmen. Just thinking winter, do one colour, I like Paynes Grey. Soon be adding another colour to it. Probably Burnt Sienna but I am a man of Whim - which I believe is a suburb of Ankh Morpork.
