Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

It is so difficult... I keep small tins of BabyBel and 85% chocolate in my bag... baby Snickers bars too for real emergencies... Don't order the Diabetic Meal for goodness' sake...:) I usually order the Hindu meal - if you like curry it's always good, but leave the rice.. :) Have a safe and uneventful trip... don't forget to wiggle your legs and feet around.. :)

Singapore Airlines have a meal option called 'No Carbs' - so that's what I have ordered :) I will post a photo and let you know what it's like. I have quite a few hours inbetween connecting flights so have packed some peanuts and those meat stick thingies (like pepperami), and some 70% dark chocolate! Thanks for the Hindu meal tip - if the No Carb experience disappoints I will try that on the way home - I guess it's veggie?

PS 85% choc - yes I saw some of that in the supermarket yesterday, must try some.

It's so frustrating when you've been so good, isn't it? :) The guys here keep saying that evening exercise helps - one hour after eating? I just cannot seem to bring myself to cook, wash up, tidy up the left-overs AND go walkies on my machine when I'm still quite full... :( Besides wanting to catch up with the Rugby/Tennis/Formula 1 - or crime drama I've missed... :) I'm sure I should though... :shifty:

Yes, it is frustrating but I keep reading that the fasting BG's are the last to go down so I live in hope. I did manage a 5.7 last week but I'm now beginning to think that was a false one as all my others have been in the 6's. My after meal readings have mostly been in the 5's and sometimes even 4's but it seems that my dreams must be of baked potatoes and porridge (both of which I really miss).

I'm a porridge lover and discovered I'm fine with it so long as I put a tablespoon of coconut oil in it and it tastes great too!

In fact I just tested two hours after having a bowl .... possibly two and a half hours but no more and I'm 5.6 so pretty good.
I couldn't do it without the coconut.

7.4 I seems to be heading in the wrong direction ...where's that satnav when u need it lol .Was 6.7 before bed I don't usually test before bed ...maybe I slept walked to the fridge last night mmmm
Most of us seem to do the morning high though... liver dump... one lady says, 'my liver loves me.. :arghh:" ... :)

Perhaps you should take a sat nav to bed with you so when you head towards the fridge it will prompt "you have taken a wrong turning. turn right at the kitchen door and go back to bed!"

They do Low Carb? How cool is that... a pic would be great... it's a lovely airline though - the best - that and Malaysian... Qatar Air is very good, I have to say... I used to always have the Hindu veggie but it's full of potato, lentils and chickpeas... :( Now I order the ordinary one and it's nearly always chicken curry, with a little dahl... and always lush... :) My husband got so jealous he orders it too now.. I keep a bag of tree nuts with me, but I never thought of pepperami sticks - thank you...:) Have a good trip...

I couldn't do it without the coconut.

Cooked with coconut oil (Tesco own brand virgin) for the first time making a curry - ideal. Also made a batch of chilli and used some coconut oil for that too - very good. Am doing an oriental pork and beans stir fry for the family tonight so will use some more for that as well.

I am hearing good things about coconut oil. Used some to roast veggies and it was acceptable, will continue with that.
I have had a brainwave thanks to your post... :) If, as they say, it lowers the carbs considerably if you double, or treble cook pasta, would it work with roast potatoes - especially if they were roasted - divine inspiration - in coconut oil?:joyful: Wouldn't that be bliss? I shall try it as soon as I get home... I'll make roast chicken with lemon, garlic and fresh herbs, and I will try my first roast potatoes in 5.5 months... Can't wait to get home on Wednesday night now... :) @Sable_Jan ... what do you think? :)

Morning readings can be higher because of the 'dawn effect' which means your liver adds blood glucose as an aid to anticipated physical activity associated with getting up. In non-diabetics this is mopped up quickly but in diabetics the BG level takes a lot longer to subside.

Thank you, that explains it.
