Do I HAVE to Swap Arms Each Time?

For those worried about scanning a new sensor “by accident” don’t worry, that can’t happen, because when you scan the new sensor it asks you whether or not you want to start the new sensor and all you have to do is click “No”. I wear mine on my chest, and find for some reason it seems much...

    Breakfast Surprises using CGM

Just a thought (feel free to ignore!) - grapes are what I use to treat a hypo! They are pure sugar bombs. How would you feel about ditching the grapes and banana and increasing the number of strawberries and raspberries? Then you’d still get your fruit but for much, much lower carbs.

How often do u change the lancets

If I start to notice that it’s hurting or (obviously) if I lend the pen to someone else. For my Victoza (daily injection) I change the needle about one a week, because I notice if I leave the same needle on too long I seem to bruise a lot

    Issues with Nurse Practitioner

I think apart from anything else this shows the limitations of HbA1C- 46 is indeed a pretty satisfactory number but in your case it’s probably as a result of the hypos - the fasting and post-prandial figures you mention don’t really fit with an HbA1C of 46. I really hope that by “get your head...

Hot bath and blood sugar levels

My two cents worth :) - a hot bath (or shower, cos we don’t have a bath) will definitely raise my (Libre) readings by this sort of amount (say, 5.5 to 8) for a short while, perhaps 10-15 minutes. Getting into a hot tub does similar. However, going into a steam room does the opposite- Libra...

    "Of which sugars"

Well the quick simple answer to your question is, ignore the “of which sugars”. It’s of little meaningful use to us. So, the portion of rice you were looking at has 30g of carbs. That’s all that matters. Now, you may or may not find that is too many carbs for you. The only way you will know is...

How many had Covid even though had all their jabs

Had five jabs, starting in February 2021. Had Covid once that I know of, in October 2022 (I’d had four jabs by then). Very mild, no worse than a bad cold. I may have had other occasions where I was asymptomatic (eg there was at least one occasion where my husband tested positive but I never had...

Low hba1c but glucose spikes. Does it matter?

Wow that one looks MUCH better! Baguette to me is absolute kryptonite. There is not a single other foodstuff (well, maybe pure sugar but I don’t eat that!) that has such a dire and dramatic effect on my blood sugar. Not cake, not croissants, not sliced bread, not chocolate: nothing. Baguette...

    Newly diagnosed, 82 HbA1c 82 MMOL/MOL

I agree with some others that the walk probably *muddied the waters* but that’s not saying it was the wrong thing to go for a walk, just that you can’t now be quite sure whether it was the high carb meal or the walk that caused the rise (exercise can cause a temporary rise, it doesn’t mean...

    Newly diagnosed, 82 HbA1c 82 MMOL/MOL

Well the shaking certainly wasn’t from low blood sugar, right? If your glucose was 10? So possibly adding a huge carb load in the form of porridge at that point might not have been the best idea. What was it after the porridge, did you check? Two possibilities I can think of for why it was 10...

What does your Freestyle Libre graph look like?

These are both fairly typical ones when I’m at home and can be selective about what I eat And a less good one when I was working away and had to have a carby hotel breakfast

    Doctor being difficult

I mean, they are clearly hoping that this *enormous* pressure being put on you will mean that you change your mind and agree to blood tests, because they cannot realistically medically claim that leaving your diabetes untreated is safer for you than treating it. So they’re hoping that it doesn’t...

    Newly diagnosed

Metformin DOES entitle you to free prescriptions - being a Type 2 diet controlled only doesn’t, you have to be on medication. However because metformin doesn’t cause hypos there will be very little hope of getting a meter and strips prescribed- they are only provided for people at risk of...

    Anxiety and prediabetes

It is only a free trial for diabetics though, and GoWest is not diabetic. I do agree that for people with diabetes, a FSL is a great investment, but I am worried for GoWest, who is not diabetic but seems to suffer from health anxiety, that it would just result in even more obsessing over...
