Type 1'stars R Us

Hi @SueJB ! Are you on any medications? Some can cause it. When they put me on Januvia, it caused it. Back then it wasn't listed as a side effect so no one thought that was it. But when I stopped they slowly went away. It could be an electrolyte shortage, a lot of the time potassium. We used to tell people to eat bananas at the store to see if it worked. Now I have spinal stenosis and when I swim I get leg cramps easy and when I first lay down I get feet cramps that a heat source by my feet, like a hot water bottle stops it. Be careful you don't burn any skin though, especially feet.

I think diabetics can be more prone to it sometimes because high sugars in the blood can thicken the blood and make circulation not as good.

It should be idiot proof but it isn't, can't work out how to write a new post.
BG been zooming up since 9am
10 units bolus for a bowl of green beans. Nothing is happening. What do I do?

@Rachox nearly there then. Perhaps someone can help me with my BG. There don't seem to be as many "stars" and contributors as there used to be

Hi
I woke on 3.7 but once showered coffee'd and injected i was at 4.3 and feeling well.

I'm a school caretaker approaching my sixties very few staff and parents realise underneath my grumpy grey haired lined face exists a mind like zen poetry constantly analysing my CGM and how i'm feeling to achieve a hba1c of 39 or 5.7 with current estimates on libre of 38 or 5.6.

I have just looked at my levels and i've gone up to 6.7 so i'm going to get a wriggle on and vacuum some carpets which will lower my levels just a tad.

In the words os William Shakespear "i'm as constant as the northern star"

Have a wonderful Wednesday

Tony

Just to follow on after vaccing and generally doing my job i'm now at 4.9 with no fast acting insulin on board.
This is exactly where i want to be and know i will stay level until my evening meal where the battle re commences as its chicken salad and a dreaded jacket potato smothered with best butter and cathedral city.......
I adore potatoes its my thing but it is a battle to keep myself level and in my head I'm sword fighting an imaginary potato and this makes me giggle a bit.....

Tony

I don't have a problem with potatoes, although there is a purple potato here I love and if I eat too many with margarine on it, it proves trickier. Rice was the battlefield for me. I am finally better about eating small amounts, a couple of spoonfuls and I'm fine but a cup?? No...... And lately I've been getting a bagel that is made locally that I haven't figured out yet. That thing has to be close to 100 carbs the least I can figure! They sure are good though!

Its the chicken fajita wraps that baffle me......people think because i have diabetes and coeliacs and in good shape that i don't eat much well nothing could be further from the truth...my record on roast potatoes is 12 and years ago i had a full plate of mashers with sausages sticking out like desperate Dan!!
Back to the GF wraps they are over 30g of carbs in each one and i often eat 5 and its the only meal where i have to split my insulin and if i've had an aperol beforehand i split it 3 times!!!

I love a challenge .....

Tony

@Tony337 They make taro donuts here! You get them freshly made and served hot! Absolutely delicious and gluten free. A small place that has opened a few locations now. Taro is common here but there are no stats on almost anything taro, forget donuts. I had to start with what regular donuts are and adjust. Turns out its probably about 50-60 carbs for one and requires a few split doses. And chocolate topping versus raspberry/dragonfruit or lilikoi and.... It was fun figuring it out though!!!!!! Took a bit!

Yes i jolly well get it!
I do genuinly enjoy the challenge and take satisfaction once i hit the desired level.
I have the experience, tools and confidence in doing this and i do wish i could pass this on to someone who is struggling.

Currently sat at 5.4 and rushed around this morning like a loon but sat down with coffee now not because of my levels its just i'm knackered lol lol lol

Happy friday everyone

Tony

Happy monday
Awoke on 3.1 and apart from too much vino last night after watching city thrash united i felt ok.
Did a finger prick test 3.6 which jolted me a bit but coffee and biscuits later i'm now at work on 4.7 and still feeling quite chipper......

Tony

Bit miserable today.
Had a low late last night then over treated subsequently alarm went off at midnight my wife is sniffling therefore snoring went into the spare room gave myself a unit of insulin which didn't do anything and woke at 5.30 in the tens....
Took 2 units and now sat at desk with a 5.0 and a big downward arrow.
Coffee and biscuits consumed but i really don't feel like a star this morning...lol

Have a better Tuesday than me

Tony

I’m trying to collect stats to feed into a pump - those narrow half unit margins make big differences.
I think a day off beckons. Some short bamboo stakes needed so I can make a better protection for young kale plants than the rough low netting perched on prunings from exuberant shrubs.
It’s sad to see summer, and summer veg, departing. What winter veg gladden everyone else’s hearts?

I do not eat veg apart from spuds which doesn't count but i consume vast quantities of salad even in winter.
Its strange as i love a home made veg soup but tend just to use whatever is left over from a sunday roast however i can never replicate as its odds and ends.

I adore asparagus soup but don't like asparagus!!

I have levelled off in the sixes so happy days.

@Tony337 Sometimes if you put things over the veggies that you do like gets you used to eating that vegetable more. I used to have boyfriends when I was young that didn't like veggies, I would put Hollandaise sauce or cheese over different veggies and they would love it! Lemon over broccoli, gravy over mixed etc.

@Fairygodmother
I love the Farmers Markets here and the fresh huge heads of broccoli and now I buy only store bought cauliflower lol. I used to love getting heads of cauliflower that are literally over a foot wide. But one time I brought a head home and took it out of my bag and a ton of almost inch long beetles scattered out of it. I never saw them hiding in it! That ended my days of buying it from the Farmers Market for now at least!!! I like I think most veggies, I go in phases of what I am getting more of and I actually enjoy the frozen mixed veggie blends at the grocery. I love purple potatoes but you can get them almost year round here. And my husband loves the fresh corn that shows up more, but you can get that off and on throughout the year here too. I love corn but I have a mild allergy to it. But I really look forward to it being mango season. One veggie I dislike is Arugula. Forget it in salads. And I tried cooking it like collards and I still don't like it. And I just discovered Brazilian Kale! My neighbor brought me a huge bag and I had to look it up as she said it was Kale, but it didn't look like the kale that I am used to. You can eat it raw a lot easier, it comes in flat leaves like collards. I just made a shitake and kale salad with basically just balsamic vinegar and sesame oil and it was great! But summer and fruit season is what I love best!!!!

Hi @Marie 2
I genuinly laughed out loud at being told aged 57 how to eat veg.
I have always eaten with my eyes like a small child.......

Broccoli is positively evil looking.
Peas are the devils ovaries.
The smell of sprouts cauliflower and cabbage make me gip.
I love raw onions and eat lots but the texture of a cooked one on my tongue makes me gip.
As for peppers !!!!
Pizzas should be banned as i cannot even look at one they look shocking all that awfulness on top turns my stomach and then the carbs come into play!!
Swede parsnips and carrots belong on a scarecrow although i do eat raw carrot in a salad.

I'm a coeliac and nearly all meals are fresh and my salads which i adore consist of lettuce cucumber onion carrot pak choy celery radish with copious amounts of cracked black pepper.

I rarely eat bread or pastries and my vice is potatoes in all their glorious forms.

I eat well and in good shape for my age and 50 years of diabetes.

I hope my wafflings ( i don't eat waffles or hash browns either they look vile) are taken in very good spirits as my post is meant to be and i wish you all a wonderful wednesday)

Tony
PS Hollandaise sauce along with cheese sauce and that white stuff mayo is it ugggghhh take it away.....it infects the taste of everything on your plate!
