Type 1'stars R Us

When I was tested I was making no insulin and I have been a type 1 for 22 years, but I think my pancreas still tries
Lows all night are frustrating and tiring @Marie 2 Hope you had a better night last night. I remember reading an article (sorry I don't know where) on insulin production in type I, which showed that even many decades after diagnosis, they could/did periodically produce some insulin. I've often said I was sure my pancreas does at times.

I agree. Every few weeks in my case. My Libre results show the struggles of adjusting.

I seem to remember that @EllieM shared that article, can't find it myself at he moment.

Could be this one https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25519449/
(Has a fascinating scatter graph of insulin production versus length of dagnosis)
but possibly the Scottish one where they found that some long term T1s were actually misdiagnosed?
In the Scottish one though 13% had C-peptide ≥200 pmol/L only half of those got a T1 msdiagnosis, so presumably the rest were T1s still producing (some) insulin....

I had my evening meal of Friday at 6pm then went 24 hours without food.
I was busy saturday but my levels remained good so i was a little resistant as i should have dropped a little.
For my evening meal I had steak chips mushroom 2 runny eggs and didn't even spike so i thought yay i'm cured!!!
Sunday started well until i went swimming where i had a few extra carbs for the swim but i went up to 11 and stayed there for about 2 hours.... you know where you keep checking your levels convinced you will start to drop yet you don't and feel its pay back time for yesterdays happiness lol

Oh happy days

Happy monday everyone

Tony

And as soon as you decide to make that correction, 10 minutes later you start to drop and now you know you should have waited just a little longer.

@Tony[emoji[emoji6]] this is what I like about this thread. The idiosyncrasies of managing Type one that are mentioned here and you suddenly remember, it’s not just me, I am not alone in this daily battle.
Quote from my favourite tv show.....

"its all part of our daily battle against the forces of chaos"

Currently 6.5 after a busy couple of hours and i should be lower so i'm a tad resistant again.....

I am a massive fan of my libre and scowl quite a lot actually at the number of people on this site who give it bad press....

ssssssshhhh

My latest sensor keeps losing signal and have had several poor nights sleep with the alarms.
I keep my control quite tight so the alarms are vital but last night i had another lost signal and either the alarm didn't go off or i missed it and woke about 3am with a 2.7.
Several jelly babies later and now at work i'm showing a 3.4 so i'm tired full of coffee and feeling a bit grisly with the world.

I intend putting a new one on and leaning nicely on abbotts and all will be well.

Have a wonderful wednesday

Random question: Does anyone drop from antibiotics?
I'm currently having a lung infection and started antibiotics yesterday. Where do those lows suddenly come from?
I don't think I ever have. But it could make sense. If you have an infection or sick you usually use more and have higher sugars and they get better as you get over it, so the antibiotics might be helping you get better and hence bringing down blood sugar levels? More sensitive to insulin? I know golden seal that i use to help with infections also brings down my BG levels. That's because of one of the properties it has so....????

Plus, medications can have odd side effects, not always known or listed. I had leg cramps once that was never listed as a side effect until years later it showed up as one.

This would make sense if I had been using more insulin or having higher BG for the week of being ill before starting the antibiotics, but I haven't.
I just have been having unexplainable dropping BG's and lows despite using less insulin for the same stuff as usual.

Must be one of those odd diabetes things, I'll adjust. Or possibly it's just part of the pattern where my insulin needs have slowly reduced over the past two years, and it coincidentally needed more reduction just as I was starting antibiotics.

Or - sudden lightbulb moment - I haven't been very hungry for the past week and a half, so possibly I have lost some weight, reducing my insulin needs.

My levels are not budging today which is good and i feel tickety boo considering i have not eaten for 20 hours.

I am about to mop the school hall at the speed of a deer so that has to do something to my levels!!

Went to bed in the sixes and it slowly rose overnight and my libre alarm went off at 5am which was a blow as i get up at 5.30 so i'm bog eyed (lovely expression) at my computer on 4.1 supping coffee.

Happy Friday everyone

Happy Monday
Spent my weekend coving my sons front room and had two yes two horrible highs!
Back in work and back to normal.

What a beautiful weekend here in the Uk. Spent three whole days in the garden. All now ready for winter. Just a trip to the tip needed sometime before Friday as we get our new car then and will not be loading it up with rubbish anytime soon.
Busy week incoming, starting with flu jabs in an hour followed by our usual Monday grandson care. So a trip to the park. All this activity has been good for levels. Just a couple of Dextrose chomped whilst in the garden. We will see how the flu vaccination upsets the apple cart.
Have a good week all.

Good luck with the flu jab @becca59. Had mine Saturday morning, had a bad reaction in terms of uncontrollable shivering in the evening, bg up a bit, then felt so wiped out and headachyyesterday I missed going to a gig last night. Not great, hope you sail through!

Have you tried taking a paracetamol straight after vaccinations and every 4 hours for a day @hh1 My mum's friend was told to do that by her Consultant son, and we've all found it really reduces/avoids reactions like this.
