Interesting but only hyPothetical at this stage. The brain is being implicated more and more in gut diseases - there are brain neurotransmitters which are also found in the gut, psychological disorders can affect the gut (diarrhoea when anxious, IBS etc.) and the gut and brain are closely...

    nightmares/night terrors

Thank you lacey1. Hormones are dfinitely a possibility too. I didn't know they could cause night terrors though. I've had them before under stress but rarely. I often sleep talk and once sleep walked, all as an adult, but this was the worst terror I've had. I could hear my attempts to scream but...

That made me laugh despite having a headache. I'll wake my lazy daughter so she can read it too.

    Pesky dawn phenomenon

This is fascinating. I only found it because, unusually, I had a late breakfast today and went from 6.9 waking to 8.0 within an hour. i shall try nuts or something by the bed as long as I can keep them out of reach of the dog - he's half labrador, need I say more.

    Advice please

Hello. I would recommend, quite strongly, that you contact your diabetic nurse with readings like that. Do you feel like you are having a hypo at those times? If not I would recommend it even more!

    nightmares/night terrors

So I guess I should make sure I haven't eaten too little (or too much) before sleeping. I suppose it's not surprising really that my body is struggling with such a major change in diet.

Well it has been 20 mins or so but I've just checked and it's 5.7 which is good forme.

    nightmares/night terrors

I've just had a sneaky sleep as my night sleep is poor at present and I'm going out tonight (excuses, excuses). Anyway, I had the worst night terror I have had ever. I knew I was in another state and that if I could open my eyes I would be safe. I opened them once ortwice but was, of course...

    Hello, I'm new

Hi Swinks. We've already 'met' on the low carb forum I think. Hope you find it as helpful and supportive as I have done. Rock on! (I have no idea where that impulse came from but it felt apt).

So... How are you coping with your new body?

Hi Cold Ethyl (again). I read about 'saggy bits' because I wanted to avoid them and running to tone up isn't on the cards this time. I read that often it is actually stubborn subcutaneous fat causing a residual loose jiggly bit and that if you can shift it the skin should tighten back. It's...

So... How are you coping with your new body?

Hello Kim. It is strange I agree. !5 years ago I was slim I had lost 50lbs in 6 months and was running 4 miles cross country once a week. I remember very clearly going into Monsoon to try on clothes and having to accost some other poor woman there to check that a size 14 really did fit me - it...

    Doctors' notes

I had a letter once in which the patient was described as having Prada Willy Syndrome (it should have read Prader Willi). There was then an office outbreak of 'Gucci Todger' and 'Chanel Trousersnake' etc.

Also, consider adding more salt to your food. Magnesium, salt and potassium are meant to be helpful with low carb diet.

They say there is a low carb 'flu' but it does settle within days or a week or two.

Hi Swinks. I'm only on day 4 of LCHF but have had headaches. IVe put it down to lack of fluids. They get better if I drink plenty. Mind you it's hard to keep up with all the weeing! If your only toilet is upstairs you'll be getting some exercise already ;)
