    Have you seen these commercials?

I've been on metformin for about 12 years, & low carb for 7. I did have Gaviscon on repeat prescription, but very rarely have trouble - I've still got a bottle from years ago. [Don't tell me to look at the date.] I take mostly the slow release version now, & no other meds, apart from tea. BUT...

    Have you seen these commercials?

Some of the commercials are dangerous - anything chronic needs professional advice, not over-the-counter remedies or gadgets.

Is HbA1c a reliable indicator of diabetes control?

At a Hounslow support group meeting a year ago a rep from Abbot introduced the Freestyle Libre continuous monitor. Then it was suggested that it would show up highs & lows in a way that HbA1c could not.

Is HbA1c a reliable indicator of diabetes control?

I have good reason not to trust HbA1c as a guide to my control: 7-8 years diabetic T2 I was suffering crippling peripheral neuropathy, & various other problems. HbA1c was 6.8 (50.8) which Dr did not consider the cause of the problems - basically diabetes is a progressive condition, & my...

Self testing is unreliable and unnecessary

"They" tell you to use a new lancet for every test. I don't - I change the lancet when I change the tub of test strips, & use the previous tub to keep the strips & lancet(s) till I bin them. Note - if you test anyone else, change the lancet before & after - never share lancets. I have good...

    No carb diet??

We can cut out all the obvious carbs, but some will get through. Protein, veg & fat - but keep to the recommended calories - weight for weight protein has equal calories to carbs, & fat has double. When I went low carb - I was becoming crippled with peripheral neuropathy - I stopped eating all...

    Hanadr - RIP

Many of you will remember Hana, with encouragement for diabetes control from her LCHF diet & 8000 posts. I had the pleasure of meeting her on 3 occasions, near her home in Reading, at research project meeting & the Hounslow Cardio/Diabetes support group. We have spoken on the phone from time to...

Pierced foot - monitor or seek help?

I was advised that in the event of any foot injury to go to the local diabetes podiatry unit, or A&E - NOT to wait to see what develops. Feet are VERY important.

    Statins?

On diagnosis my total chol was 7.6. After about 2 years Dr prescribed simvastatin, & after a few months the muscle pains were serious. I read letters in 'Balance' that attributed muscle pain to statins, so I stopped them. In a week or so the pains had cleared. I reported back to the Dr & he said...

Type 2 One or two hour testing after meals?

Hi Carolyn, I note that you are T2 on metformin, as I am. When I was eating the NHS/Duk high carb diet (up to 8 years ago) my 2 hour BGs were below 9, & my HbA1c around 7, so it seemed I had satisfactory control. Complications developed, particularly crippling peripheral neuropathy. 7 years...
