    Keto numbers

Currently at 1.7 - but like a lot of the others on this thread. I test very rarely, and providing my finger prick glucose readings are between 5.0 and 7.8 (mmol/l) I don't worry about it. :)

    Statins Again

I had my annual check recently and my DN asked me if I was going to take the statins (Atorvastatin) which I'd been prescribed (Cholesterol at 5.2). When I said no she removed them from my prescription. Win - win :)

    Hba1C at 38 6 months after diagnosis

Just had my latest set of blood results back. Latest Hba1c at 35 :), all other results with range except my cholesterol which was slightly raised at 5.2. Had an appointment with my Diabetic Nurse who was amazed at my progress, asked me how I was doing it. I explained that I was...

HbA1c level still going up despite dieting/Metformin 1500mb p. day

Hi Mermaid and welcome to the forum. First things first please take a look at the linked blog post from one of the other forum members which you may find helpful. Can I ask what you're eating over the course of a normal day? Some foods have stuff in them that can spike your blood sugar, but...

Low carb and unintentional weight loss

When I was diagnosed part of the issue was that I had lost a lot of weight approx 3-4 stones in about 9 months putting my BMI down to about 17.5 ( underweight). Once I changed to a keto lifestyle to manage my blood sugar levels, I upped my fat and protein intake to try and put some weight back...

Do i need to chill? Am i just impatient?

Don't know much about PCOS - but from what I've seen on several YouTube videos the low carb approach appears to help with that too.

Do i need to chill? Am i just impatient?

hI @Rushkami, I started out with a hba1c of 123. It took about 3 months of low carbing before my post prandial (2 hours after eating) glucose meter readings were regularly under 10, so you are probably a little impatient (my latest hba1c was 38, so it does work) Have a look at @JoKalsbeek...

    Low carb cereal type breakfasts?

Not read all the thread - but what I do is make up some chia seed pudding (18g chia seeds + 125ml unsweetened almond milk) and mix about 100g greek yoghurt mixed in with 20g ground flax seed, and put it in the fridge overnight. The flax seeds and yoghurt is like a cold porridge and takes about...

    Doctors Advice is confusing

If you want to add a bit of variety try some seeds as well - chia, flax and sesame seeds are all good, hemp seeds as well if you can get them. Chia seed pudding is one of my breakfast staples (18g chia seeds/125ml unsweetened almond milk, mix together and leave in the fridge overnight - add...

    Please Someone

You'll see this advice in several places on the forum but it bears repeating. Keep a food diary - there are several good apps knocking around some free like MyFitnessPal and some where you have to pay a fee like Carbs & Cals which is what I use. You're already testing, which is good, I suggest...

2 days in and it's very confusing!

Have you had a HBa1c blood test and if so what number did it come back with. If you want to do Keto, my advice is 2 fold, firstly get a glucometer and measure your blood sugar both prior to eating and 2 hours after you eat. This will give you a good indication of what foods your body can...

    Free prescriptions for type 2?

Yes - if your type 2 diabetes is drug controlled - you can get a NHS medical exemption card which exempts you from prescription charges. Your GP surgery should be able to give you a form to fill out, which your GP will have to countersign. The process took about 3 weeks before I got my card.

I need a recommendation for a blood glucose meter

I use the Accu-chek Instant, strips (here), and lancets (here), sold separately £13:30 for 50 strips works out at about 27p per strip. Whether that's a price point you can live with I don't know, but it's ok for me.

Vegetable intake when trying to move from low carb to even lower carb (as a vegetarian)

I use Carbs & Cals and that's a reasonable assumption. If they don't I've been recording my carbs wrong since March

    Hba1C at 38 6 months after diagnosis

I can't remember - I've asked my GP to open up my records so I can see them through my NHS login. Once I've got a figure, I'll edit my original post on this thread to include it.

    Hba1C at 38 6 months after diagnosis

:happy::happy: I've just had my first Hba1c after being diagnosed in March, and the results came back at 38 |(5.6%). Been on LCHF for most of that time, but in the process of switching to a ketogenic diet to help with my energy levels. Previous Hba1c results 30th Jan 2023 123 (13.4%)...

    Newbie Low Carber Questions/Concerns

    Ketone meters

I'm also looking at getting a ketone meter. The one I'm looking at Looks like the test strips are about £1 a pop which seems to be fairly standard. Anyone use this or heard anything regarding it's reliability/accuracy?

    Neuropathy advice

Hi guys - I presented with peripheral neuropathy symptoms before I was diagnosed with T2 Diabetes, unfortunately it took 2-3 months after I saw him for the T2D diagnosis, so it got worse by the time I was diagnosed in March 2023 (cold feet, tingling and muscle spasms in my legs). Following some...

    Blood glucose levels

The general guideline is that you don't want it to be higher than 2mm/l above your pre-breakfast reading. Ideally to get an idea of where you need it to be, you should test before you eat and then again 2 hours after you take the first bite. If the second reading is more than 2mm/l higher...
