    What are your exceptable ranges?

Seems an obvious topic but rarely asked. Is anything under 10 good enough for you? That's where I'm at right now I think I used to work between 4 & 7 but my annual blood test seemed too low and hypos were too frequent

Question for those with zero natural insulin left

Just out of curiosity, how little would it take for you to end up in hospital for example would something like a slice of toast skipping insulin be enough to put you in real trouble? I'm curious about what tolerances to expect. I know that I can handle a few cups of tea without worrying too...

Blood is too well controlled? Getting fat?

I know this might sound crazy but with my blood so well controlled I'm starting to get negatives like weight gain and in particular Abdominal Obesity (or beer belly) -probably as a side of effect of healthy control and so much insulin in the blood I'm worried if this carries on I might develop...

Are you open about diabetes or embarrassed about it?

I still have some trouble telling people that I have diabetes. It's weird because I have many other conditions too which I don't mind mentioning. But I find the word diabetes to be a dirty word. I'm not sure why. It just sounds unhealthy and weak So how open are you about it?

    "Of which sugars"

I'm still not totally sure I understand this For example a pot noodle is 19g carbs and only 1.5g of which sugars.. so could pot noodle be considered good or bad in terms of blood sugar? I generally aim for foods that are less than 1g of "which sugars" Should I be concentrating on the total...

Do you just keep injecting fast-acting until levels are right?

Injected 2 units before dinner. An hour later my levels were 9 so I injected an extra unit to bring it down (not sure if you're supposed to do this) but now another hour later and my levels are 10.5 Do I inject more? Is that a thing?

    Any recommended supplements?

I was ordering some zinc for a boost in testosterone/libido and saw that type 1's happen to be deficient in zinc Got me thinking. What else are we deficient in and what other supplements could help with general quality of life? Thanks

    Family history question

My GREAT uncle is the only member of my entire family tree who was possibly type 1 and I know my Ancestry going back 300 years I say "possibly". He was insulin dependent, lost both his legs, had glaucoma and haemophilia. Can this also happen with type 2? Or is pretty much likely a type 1? I've...

    Metformin hurts my kidneys?

I swear this isn't my head. I'm in real pain after taking it. Anyone had this problem? Is it dangerous or just annoying?

    Thinking about trying BCG vaccine

Would mean bypassing the NHS and asking a private doctor to stick me. Nothing to lose?? I've just read it shows promise for "numerous inflammatory and autoimmune diseases" - and that sentence might as well be my middle name

I think cows milk causes it

Not sure if the forum is tolerant of theories and may have heard it all before but this is the only agent that connects all of my conditions (Type 1 D, Sarcoidosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis etc) together in one basket Mycobacterium avium ss. paratuberculosis (MAP) a bacterium found in cows milk and...

Type 1 What to make of my blood markers

My doc said I tested positive for "2 of the markers" the first being Zinc Transporter and the other being slightly raised Gad 65 but not hugely. Are my results common? Does it mean I don't have insulin autobodies? And does it imply a less aggressive Type 1 but Type 1 nonetheless?

Is it normal to still feel unwell

Levels seem ok, 6's and 7's, maybe 10 after heavy meals but never higher Yet I still feel generally weak and unwell. My kidneys hurt. I'm always tired and lethargic I am on background insulin and metformin. Shouldn't I be feeling better?

Is Metformin really good for anti-ageing?

I've heard Metformin is one of the best anti-ageing agents known to science. How true do you think this is? I've only been on it a month Also, are there any "weird" effects you've noticed in its long-term use?

Not eating breakfast keeps my sugars down all day

I'm not a big breakfast guy anyway but I was told it's important. However just 9 units of background insulin in the morning and not eating until lunch has given me pretty consistent levels Anyone see an issue with this?

Anyone have symptoms of low blood sugar before diabetes?

For YEARS leading up to my diagnosis I would have sugar crashes where my brain/body would go into panic mode for sweet foods and the symptoms would immediately subside upon eating them. This happened through out my late 20's and now age 31, diabetic probable type 1. Did anyone else have this?
