Some advice reads "Wholegrain carbohydrates provide energy and a good source of vitamins and fibre. These include porridge, whole wheat pasta, wholegrain bread and brown rice"
I am newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and am a tad confused because the advice I've read so far on this website is to try to cut out all forms of pasta, rice and porridge?

I like this list of low carb foods. I am in USA. anyone know if USA has a protein roll to offer in place of high carb breads? I am not aware of what it is? but could some body tell me what is the substitute for potatoes to go with the fish meat veg etc thats where i struggle or do u just have to go with out potatoe based food on ur dinner
ive changed rice for wholemeal wild rice and pasta for whole meal pasta and bread for multi grain whole meal it just seems a lot of dinners have potatoe based foods with them any advice welcome thanks dave
I use celeriac which you can mash with butter and cream, slice in a dauphinois with cream or roast in oil. Now prefer it to potatoes I think it’s got a better flavour and I was a potato addict! Depends on your computer and software. I click and drag to highlight the text then use Ctrl+C to copy. Then I open up my text processing program , MS Word in my case, but there are others. Then use Ctrl+V to paste or else use the paste option from the app's menus.HOW CAN I print this list please.

Cauliflower.
Big bunches instead of potatoes. Cauliflower rice instead of rice. Cauliflower hash browns and cauliflower blanched and compressed on top of fish pie.
I agree about the celeriac. With sweet potatoes I understand that despite the name : they have a LOW glycaemic load when boiled and an even lower load if left unpeeled in the fridge, to be eaten later , cold. So ok for most folks.I'm not so sure about sweet potatoes they are considerably higher in carbs than potatoes with 27 to 20 g/100g depending on baked or steamed. The clue should be in the "sweet"! 'Normal' potatoes vary from 12 to 26g/100g depending on if they are new or old potatoes and how they are prepared
Yams are even higher in carbs at about 28g/100g
One low carb alternative is to make cauliflower rice or try celeriac as chips or mash - both of these have next to no carbs.
