"A new you in 42"

I did my hour walk to Lidl for 4 pints of milk and cycled my daughter to brownies today (15 mins each way). Going on stupid diabetes course tomorrow where I'll be sitting there whilst being lectured to eat more carbs despite how ill they make me feel. I'm not anti low GI for those it works for but it doesn't work for me! Feel grumpy just thinking about it. Don't want to do my marking either :(
Great going Scandichic!
If the thought of going tomorrow makes you feel grumpy, just smile when you think how you can tell us all how you put the wind up the lecturer tomorrow! x

Well, I have started the challenge again but slowly - 15 mins ironing and 15 mins walk.

Just sit there smuggly nodding, at the course leader, then give everyone the info for the forum.

Well my fellow 42ers
Today I have been inspired, and feeling a little guilty at being a bit of a couch potato at the weekend,(really struggled to think of creative ways to claim activities as exercise).
Today I did 30minutes non-stop swimming. I wanted to get out of the pool, as it was busy with some children still being off school. Every time I thought about getting out, I noticed the shower area was packed, so, thinking it was about time I claimed bragging rights, I did another 10 minutes swimming, followed by 15 minutes aqua running and fast treading water. It felt amazing. Being so restricted in movement on land makes me feel so free in the water.

I then spent 30 minutes walking in the supermarket. (Well I did after I got dried and dressed) The staff there haven't rumbled me yet, I am not there to spend, just to use their nice level, wide isles, and hold on to their trollies to keep me upright. Sorry if you are one of the poor souls trying to do your shopping, but I do try to avoid busy times. I had another 10 minute walk later in the day.

My intention before starting this challenge was to begin building up my water exercise sessions. Before the challenge, it was easy for me to say 'sod it' and use least little excuse not to get out to the pool. Now I have all of you 'Jiminy Crickets' guiding me.
Jamrox, thank you so much for starting this. Everyone, thank you for keeping it going.

Did my 40 minutes walking, and just a couple of 5 minute sessions on the rower for familiarisation. I'm away for the next three days so there will be some slight changes in regime.

Can I join in?

Bit late, but I always am.

I have been doing 2 separate briskish dog walks of 20 minutes each day. Today I added to that with a long browse round the garden centre, pushing an over-full trolley to the car and unloading all my new plants. Does that count? ;) I then dug a nice hole for a lovely new laurel shrub and planted it but got rained off before I could plant the rest. Exhausted after that and needed a mug of tea.

Dont worry one day the guideance will change, when they say about the carbs ask them to see the guidance. . From what I've read it says a diet to meet individual needs...have to be honest and only read a few sections so it could say more in another section.

Any activity counts as long as it stops you being a couch potato , we are very flexible lol

Well I have had a busy day and almost gave up for the day ...Note almost. .
I was up at 6 to catch an early train to Edinburgh.
Was at day 1 of the guidelines conference ( yes lots of people from NICE there, no don't have the guts to ask them why they think we should eat lots of carbs)
Conference finished at 5, checked into hotel, had dinner, went to see" let it be " at the playhouse, clapped and danced ...when it finished I was going to bed ..then I thought of you all working hard and us supporting each other so I walked along Princes Street and back so that's me done for the day.

You should have asked them! Whenever I ask anyone, I either get the silent treatment or they tell me that it's for energy. When I ask them why I can't use fat as an alternative source of energy since carbs have no other nutritional value, they either change the subject (2 docs from my practise), tell me that it's the wrong type of energy (consultant - no further answer supplied when I asked why) or they tell me that they're going to refer me on (stupid dn at docs who told me that there was no point in me seeing her again as she would only give me the same advice). I can't help it. I am a teacher, my parents were teachers and so was my grandfather so I was always taught to ask if you don't understand. So I do in my quest for some cold hard evidence. I was also taught not to automatically do something because my peers or someone in charge told me so. I guess this makes me difficult........

Pipp!
That's amazing!
I was going to put off going for a run this morning, but having just read you're post I'm going to get off my bum right now and get out.
You're a star! x

Can you call running up and down the house, wheezing and coughing whilst sorting out son who had car accident yesterday exercise? He's fine, but his be
beloved Nissan 300zx is a write off. Then an hour on the phone with insurance company, then in and out of house to help remove things from car before it was towed away? What about back rub for son, then walking talk around house for an hour?
Weirdest exercise yet for me..except walking around the entire town every day for 7 days while and praying waiting for other son to come out of an induced coma for severe asthma.
Couldn't I just climb a tree or scrub the driveway witha toothbrush?

Sorry all, only just been made aware of this thread by Scandichic so I 'can't do 42'! But will be watching and participating until the end of your course.

Yay, Scandichic
Don't just question authority, question everything.

Holy smoke Gillie Ruth,
Your stress levels must be through the roof! Thank heavens your son came away from the car accident unscathed! As for your other son - I know we will all be praying with you on that one.
Keep strong and keep sane. Sending a huge cyber hug of support, Becky.x
Ps. I think climbing a tree might actually be a good idea - re-live those childhood memories when there were no responsibilities. In fact it would probably do us all some good!:)

Glad to hear he's ok. A car can be replaced but a son can't. Scrubbing the drive with a toothbrush sounds far less stressful so go for it x

Thankyou Becky! Prayers answered and our son is out of his coma and well on the way to good health now, I love a cyber hug, very high tech, bit still warm!
Son with the car problem had an anaphalactic reaction to asthma meds 6 months earlier and spent a week in ICU, but no induced coma, yet they worry more about me than their own experiences, very sweet young men, like their dad, only younger lol
Think I'll climb a small tree in the local park and say some thankyou prayers for a blessed life amd this forum. Gillie Ruth
