Good luck with the doc's this morning :). (((((Hugs)))))
Well done scottie, now at last you will see a consultant , your oh did well standing by you, hold steady, you'll get there:Well, that didn't go as well as it could have. Doctor seemed in a rush to get me out but I felt like I was in charge and asked lots of questions. To sum up, I have to go for blood tests on Wednesday, and then on Friday that I will start a new tablet called Sitagliptin, this will come in my medicine box and I have to take half of my current dosage of Gliclozide. I was also referred to a Community Diabetic Clinic with a view to starting insulin, I have already called them to make an appointment and they said they will get back to me within 5-7 days. The GP stated that my high levels were not as dangerous as high levels in Type 1s and not to worry. But this is the cause of me feeling rubbish. I can stop taking the Sitagliptin if I feel unwell. I informed the GP that I wanted to stop taking Gliclozide due to weight gain, he said insulin can also cause weight gain but there is something else I can take that won't. He didn't give me the name of this.
My script for Folic Acid will end this month. All my other blood results from February are fine.
Has also increased my dose of Gabapentin to 400mg three times daily to help with pain relief. Couldn't do anything about my lack of sleep as already taking sleeping tablets, even though they are not working.
He did mention my new diet and told me I need to eat wholemeal bread instead of Ryvitas (which I am not eating at all now) and to increase my carb intake, I told him I wasn't going to do that as have seen better results with LCHF, he didn't argue.
I did forget to ask him about my stomach pains, it was on the list that OH had, it just seemed to pass very quickly.
Very impressed with what you did here. Well done.Well, that didn't go as well as it could have. Doctor seemed in a rush to get me out but I felt like I was in charge and asked lots of questions. Some count calories, others don't. I counted mine, plus carbs, and lost 4stones 4lbs by keeping my calories to 1200 a day, and carbs to under 60g. I still have to count my calories in order not to lose any more weight. I now try for 1800 calories a day and under 50g carbs, and have fairly stable weight now. If I didn't count them, it wouldn't work for me. We all have different methods of controlling our food.
Re calorie counting. I'm one of those who said you don't need to count them. I fully understand why you do still want to keep a check on them, and I use myfitnesspal myself, so it's hard not to check them! As donnellysdogs said you do what's right for you, I totally agree with her on this. All I would say is if you are ever hungry don't stress about going over your calorie limit, the carb one is more important. Like I said earlier. I am impressed with how well you are doing. Keep it up
That's a great weight loss Bluetit, how long was that over?
Thank you Scottie. I lost between 1 and 2lbs a week over about 9 or 10 months.
If I could like this post 1000 x I would. Scottie remember this one in your moments of self doubt. You are doing extremely well in a difficult situation, there's no need to beat yourself up at all.You aren't doing anything wrong Scottie.. Its your body screaming that it needs an extra source of insulin in someway being given....
You'll get there... I think personally that you are a LADA... in which case you will not be able to lower your levels totally by yourself...
Hold in there doing what you are doing.... When you are given some other treatment and you eat lower carbs its makes life easier long term.
Get your bloods done, get your appointment but don't keep beating yourself up in the interim time.....
Honest... You'll be getting better treatment very soon.
