Blood Sugar in High 20's and GP not helping, please advise

Hi Scottie

Filling up hubby pre work. My hubby works morning shifts currently.. He just takes a small ramekin sized bowl of berries and yogurt or cream to work. He walks 18000 steps a day just at work. He doesn't get hungry and yet he used to have... 3 weetabix and milk, plus flapjack, plus crisps, plus a choc bar!!! He comes home at 3pm and has a no pasta/potato/bread tea. Tonight we just had 6 small meatballs in homemade sauce in a huge bowl. (No pasta). Plus 6 slices of full fat cheese plus 2 dark choc sq and some walnuts and 2 glasses of red wine (well it is Friday).

On late shifts he eats the boiled eggs with bacon dippers or omlette or saus n eggs or berries before work and takes salad with salmon/crustless quiche etc to work...

He has only fell off this eating for one week pre xmas when his work colleagues kept taking in doughnuts and there was free buffet food for a week. It wasn't from getting bored, but because he wanted to be the same as his colleagues. He realised that after putting on 6lb in a week that it wasn't good! So stopped immediately.

Its good to read your familys eating as it helps us to try and help you.

Incidentally. I'm not sure if this advice is correct for type 2's as well but I was always told (type 1 though) not to physically work or work if my bloods were anove 12 because something above that level and exercising can make them go higher.

What is your GP doing about meds to reduce your levels? These higher levels are going on too long.

My GP is not doing anything, we are waiting for confirmation of registering with another practice.

Have what they have without the spuds and just give yourself extra veg. Easy.
Celeriac can be mashed just like spuds, try it, daughter might even prefer it to spuds, I do. Add some butter, salt and pepper, can also be used to top shepherds pie, I'm making that tomorrow.
Also try it with mashed with grated cheese, put in ovenproof dish with more grated cheese on top and bake till cheese is toasted. You could ring the changes by adding bacon, tuna flakes, sausages, anything you like and serve with meat/fish, salad or veg.

Explain to them that you have to change your way of eating otherwise you'll be in serious trouble, but that you need their help. Diabetes can run in families so it would be best for them too.

There are some very tasty sounding things there Rowan, thank you. What does celeriac taste like? Anything inparticular?

Carbs n cals good but doesn't really give ideas on low carbing as it really is based upon pictures of all foods- mainly carb laden.

It tells you how many carbs in things that don't have nutrition labels though, like veggies and fruit, and when you do eat carbs it helps you track how many, plus of course the other nutrients I mentioned. It was my Bible and I still use it.

Yes, I do worry about that, my son inparticular though he has been very suportive this last week and has, himself been eating salads etc instead of other food.

Diabetes running in family.
My mum was type 2, one of my sisters was type 2, my brother is type 2 and I am type 2. You could say it gallops in our family.

OMG...

With registering with a new GP it should be just going in. Filling in a form and them giving you a welcome pack.

You should not have to wait to see a new GP. Its no longer like the old days when they used to send a card confirming that you are registered.

You should then just book up an appointment to be aeen as a new patient. This is normally with a nurse who will get all your height, weight and waist measurement and blood pressure done.

You should not have to wait for this at all....

I will now say, " Good night Scottie. "

And good night ALL, I hope you all sleep well and that we all have good bs in the morning.
:)

They say it tastes like celery but it's much nicer. It has the texture of potatoes, either boiled, mashed (but strain it very well, it holds water) or roast, and I imagine the chips would be as nice but I've not tried them yet. Give it a go, so far I like the roast best, a bit sweeter than roast spuds and tastes quite decadent for a diet ;)
I've read on another thread that it can be sliced and cooked in the oven layered with cream and cheese. I bet that's good too!

Have you had a good look round at in the other forums and posts? You can learn a lot from what other people are posting about, especially in Type Two Diabetes, the Food, Nutrition and Recipes and the Low Carb Diet Forum, although it's all good ;)

My Mum had type 2 too. She also had several mini strokes and two heart attacks, the second of which killed her. That's the reality of not getting diabetes under control.

I do ....

OK ...... pies are out (pastries) as are sandwiches. They skyrocket your sugars

Change of diet is one thing. Change of attitude is another. Please take care

BG 16.1 2 hours after earing.

Reduced a little Scottie... !

If you going to be busy today and your levels start to rise then personally I would stop the physical jobs if it were me.

Sometimes if levels are above 12 then activity can raise them more. Sometimes it can lower them but you need to be watching what happens in your body.
