Carbs that work for me

I see people asking what carbs work and don't work I think everyone has there own ideas
For me bread seems to be a no no it puts me up and keeps it up for a long time
Potatoes one or two I'm ok but then more than 100grams and I rocket
Pasta is another no go
Rice brown wholegrain rice is doable in small portions once a week

Have found gram flour not quite as strong on bg levels if used in moderation

Dark choc 85%-95% little effect

All other veggies seem negligible effects

Berries and apples are good but bananas and pineapple and grapes kick my butt
0% fat Greek yoghurt is a good go to for my breakfast with 1 tablespoon of muesli to start my day

Nuts are my snack of choice cashews pistachios

Chicken and pork are no problems I just spice/marinade to taste

My average menu during the week

B yoghurt and muesli water
L chicken or ham salad with pickles a bag of popped crisps water
D marinated chicken or pork and steamed veg mushrooms or simular coke zero

Snack bag o nuts or a nut bar (be kind is favourite) or a protein bar or an apple water or coke zero

Saturdays I get spoilt at a friend's house with something healthy but Lo carb but I do have a few beers for tea

Sundays is picking day not one for Sunday dinner

I seem to average 50-80g carbs a day with a fairly good level of fats

I try to drink 2 l8tr water and a l8tr of coke zero per day cos I ain't a tea or coffee person

Pasta and white spuds/french fries are bad news I agree. Brown rice only. Grapefruit and all berries are good. Cottage cheese every day almost. Pistachios thumbs up. V8 juice almost daily. Somebody needs to invent the low glycemic index french fry!

Remember if on statins no grapefruit is allowed.

Agreed. As we age two things usually progress - decrease in production of insulin by the pancreas and increase in insulin resistance. Dietary and lifestyle choices can affect/slow that progression.

You may want to read your medication patient leaflets.

I think I read somewhere that grapefruit is used to produce them but I could be wrong.

@TheBigNewt Lots of supermarkets and Iceland are selling carb alternatives like Aldi do Carrot Chips, Cauliflower rice also frozen greens and cauliflower in rice form 2 portions for £1,I love the carrot chips and they don't spike my BG
Iceland do frozen bags of the cauliflower and greens rice 4 portions for a pound these alternatives I use instead of pastas and rice meals no huge spikes,if you use veggies has alternatives the hugely help your BG control.
I've been type2 for 18 years now and carbs really spike my BG so it's either no carbs or these veggie alternatives personally I love them, I'm not on any meds so after 18 years and now in my 70 s I really think it's a no brainer! K

Potatoes aren't too bad for me as long as I stick to new boiled and only have 2 small ones. I can also eat chips in small quantities - home made and fried in lard.
Of all the obviously starchy foods I too tolerate potatoes the best, one small roastie or hasselback with a dinner with plenty of other veg. We have a one chip rule when we eat out, everyone has to give me one small chip! Obviously only if there’s 3 or 4 of us dining, not a table of 20!

I forgot roasties! How did I manage that, especially as today is Sunday and we will be having them this evening. I manage 2 small ones. At home I usually have 6 to 10 chips depending what else is on the plate. More than that is very dicey.

I don't do moderation - if it is a high carb food I don't eat any.
I am far too happy eating low carb foods anyway to go for what I can get away with.

small amount of roast potatoes, or new potatoes, or home made chips are ok for me. We cook with goose fat, not lard.

and a small amount of wholemeal bread is ok too.

I cant eat nuts or seeds.

I've tried doing all that and it's no use I spike, but I can have 1 slice Burgen bread with my bacon egg and mushrooms lunch and I'm in range, everything else after that is a no no so I use vegetables to fill up on,but I now don't mind I've gotten used to it now! K
