In my opinion no one diagnosed with diabetes should come off the diabetic register however good their results. You’d miss out on all the automatic recalls for checks like, blood, eyes and feet.I just feel confused. Food doesn't seem to have that much effect on bloods but stress does. GP says always diabetic but he did consider it "excellent control". I would love to come off the diabetic register.
How about that. I'm off to the sawbones right now to find out my latest. Have a good one.Yes they are! Back to pre diabetic levels and will know tonight if I have either gone up or back down to non diabetic levels
Work in progress!I'm classing myself as in remission as my last hba1c was 41. Its in the 'normal' range (under 42). I would not class it as that if it was over 41 though.
As far as im aware Professor Roy Taylor, Dr David unwin and virta health define reversed/remission as sub 48.
I'm just wondering what others class themselves as.
Many with prediabetes having bariatric surgery are 'cured'.My understanding of Diabetes is it is a metabolic disorder and that cannot be changed. However like so many on this forum I eat very low carb and have managed to control my BG numbers. BUT I am only one bad meal away from the danger zone. So I choose to control it. I had a heated discussion with my foot health practitioner who insists Diabetes can be cured by losing weight and eating well (open to interpretation). So long winded Deb but CONTROL all the way for me plus I get the regular checks I am entitled to.
Didnt know that....still learning. Many with prediabetes having bariatric surgery are 'cured'.
Totally agree.I call myself well controlled. My A1c has been in the normal range for 6 years (currently 34/5.3%) however, all I need to do to prove I'm still Type 2 is eat more than about 35g of carbs or eat starchy food like rice to discover myself hitting numbers that horrify me. If I control my carbs, I control my Type 2.
Me too.Didnt know that....still learning.
High carb foods rocket my bloods. Stress is manageable too.I just feel confused. Food doesn't seem to have that much effect on bloods but stress does. GP says always diabetic but he did consider it "excellent control". I would love to come off the diabetic register.
If you have an oral glucose tolerance test then you have to prepare by eating carbs for a while before the test. This is because on a low carb diet your pancreas is not "used" to producing insulin. So maybe the high bg would only be temporary until your pancreas had adjusted. You can experiment if you want to, I am not going to. ☺Hi @Debandez
Definitely ‘controlled’ for me. HbA1c down to 31 from 108 but even the slightest whiff of anything other than very low carb sends my BG soaring so I wouldn’t even use the term remission (which I agree does imply a temporary rather than permanent status) as clearly the underlying problem is still very much there. Requires constant vigilance, especially if I want to remain medication free - and I do!

Have you asked your diabetic team for the psychological help I got? They are fantastic!!! A huge difference to my stress levels.
They helped me keep level headed and not obsessed either way.
Now thou surgeon needs me to focus on more weight loss but due to no metformin added 2st. Very very bad timing.
I wish i could force metformin to work. Its just not up to me. My body has other ideas. Ps. Menopause starting.... No periods now. Weight gain, weight gain.
Argh!!!!!
Its taken over a year to just get to meet surgeon. Neither wonder I had to stop being 100% focused throughout. I would have cracked up.
