Happy New Year to you all.
I am unsure if how I feel is blood sugar related..as I'm still new to this. I had a cup of tea no sugar and a slice of toast with butter this morning at 9am. I've since been busy doing housework and then all of a sudden was shaking, felt cold (Im always feeling hot) and really weak legs. I've stayed on the sofa since this around 1pm and my legs are still weak and I feel dizzy. Just done blood and it's 9.6 and nothing to eat since 9am. Does this relate or am I just maybe coming down with a cold or something. Last night I could barely keep my eyes open, I felt totally exhausted. My normal levels are around 6.5 after eating. Thank you.

Er, my missus has spent the last few days running to the loo or in bed.
That started the same way and she is recovering now.

I would hope that you need a better breakfast than toast, (cannot look at the stuff myself without problems its one of my no no's). Or you have become de-hydrated and need some fluids.

The bread would most likely have caused the release of insulin, and as it is usually too much too fast, if you are type two, then blood glucose can rise, due to insulin resistance, which for me is highest in the mornings - and then being active reduces that and BG drops like a stone and you go all wobbly.
Bread is not on my menu. I have meat or eggs and cheese, or even a stir fry and fish - odd combination but it makes a great breakfast and then I have coffee with cream and I am good for the rest of the day.
I would normally not eat all day, maybe have another coffee, then a meal in the evening.
I just don't go well on anything carbohydrate.

Thank you both. I'm only at prediabetic stage, and was supposed to be doing the big food shop today to get all the right things. I won't be eating toast as a rule, I've downloaded myfitnesspal and set my ranges. Hubby as we speak is cooking me scrambled eggs, good quality sausages and bacon bless him. Should I check my levels again before and 2 hours after?
I am going to stop all the breads, spuds, rice etc and have bought a fab low carb cookbook. The other day I tested and it was 3.8 before I ate, so I think I need to test more regularly to see any pattern.

Definately before and two hours after each meal, don't snack just eat bigger meals if needed at the start.

9.6 is quite high for one piece of toast, hang on what was the bread?

Just normal white sliced unfortunately. I've just tested and I'm now 5.4 and the weak shaky feeling has gone.

Any quirky high numbers like that its worth washing your hands again and re testing.

Do test for a while, so you can see the differences.
I have had a large freezer for a long time (really useful if there are lots of marked down things - I am shameless in filling my trolley with them) so I have something to eat in there at the end of the week.
Diabetes is all about being unable to deal with carbohydrates, so minimizing their place in your diet goes a long way to remove the adverse reactions they cause.

Thank you. I am all sorted to start. I've only just been diagnosed and right or wrong I said I'd start after christmas. So hence still having bread...but it's stopping from now, good food shop in the morning.

Here is the info on testing blood sugars. Hope this helps. My monitor was one if the best investments I ever made.

Not many of us can eat bread without BS spikes. But there are better breads out there. I have recently bought Burgen bread as a yteat to myself for xmas and I seem to be able to tolerate 1 slice of without any adverse effect. It's in the freezer so I will.be able to treat myself every now and again. If you are going to eat bread I would try at different times of the day, some people are more resistant in the morning.

Hi @AngiH .happy new years too.

Might NOT be similar, but pre dx, i had occasions when i would get similar issues.
and again once diagnosed
(Did ask in ignorance if it was a Hypo.)

Seem as i understood it, that it was
A) pre diagnosis having a high carb meal..(i was unaware of consequences at the time) spiked then a quick low.
B) the cut back on carbs once i was diagnosed.

Sugar is an addiction and i tried to go cold turkey,

I think @Resurgam, makes a good point that the toast upped your carbs, and then left with a speedy low ?
Though the gap is a few hours if i read it right..9am eat, low at 1pm

I find if i get to 4 hours after eating.. i get an 'ugh' feeling to warn me to eat.
perhaps you just needed some food.?

Hope it resolves itself soon.

Just a suggestion:

When I first started experimenting with dietary changes, etc.,, I also got hit with weak, shaky feelings. I did a little research and was led to believe that my electrolytes might be low. I've been hooked on using an electrolyte replenisher ever since. Here's a very good tasting one: https://il.iherb.com/pr/Ultima-Heal...ctrolyte-Powder-Raspberry-10-2-oz-288-g/71017 Comes in four yummy flavors.

Completely solved my problem. Good luck to you...

If you really like bread then you could have Bergen Linseed and Soya bread low carb and popular with many on the forum. Some also have Livelife low carb bread not sure if that is the right name and there is another one that I can't remember the name of but they are very tiny slices and more expensive than normal bread and some here have them

Thank you. I've spent some time today printing recipes from diet doctor, and I've just had a nice roast chicken salad. I will be ok without bread as I've done it before on weight watchers..

Or Tesco do a High protein loaf which is 10.3 carbs per slice
