If they were sure he was diabetic @itsallagame i'm sure they will have done an hba1c. At our surgery they don't put any results online if they're outside normal range, until a gp has discussed it with you (unless it's to be expected - i.e already diagnosed with such and such). Your surgery may be different, of course. My concern is there is no HB1AC result. It is all just cholesterol results (numbers not great but was hoping to see whether he is infact diabetic)
Did they test his blood glucose as well? The day he visited the GP, they tested the urine which was positive for glucose and they were sure the frequent urine is down to being Diabetic so ordered blood work.
If the frequent urination is indeed caused by diabetes, it will go away if he gets his glucose levels right again. My question is this, will the frequent urination go away with meds? Have any of you experienced this too? He needs to go every 20 mins and it's only a bit
Have a look at the "Success Stories" section. Lots of accounts of big HbA1c reductions without meds in there.Wow Thank you all so much for the replies. You've been very helpful. @Antje77 The Amazon kit arrives today by 1pm. My husband doesn't usually eat till lunch time so he will be doing the test as soon as it comes through the door. Will update here!
Makes sense that the HB1AC is not on the list either because it is not in yet, or they won't upload it as it's out of range and the GP needs to discuss. I didn't think of that!
@KennyA that is amazing to hear you managed to lower it by a diet change and without medication. Glad I joined this Forum. Have already learnt a lot by reading everyone's experiences
On the 8.3 - it depends. It's only one reading, and there is an allowed 15% error for 95% of readings in fingerprick checks - eg a true value of 7.0 could return a reading of anywhere from 6ish to 8ish and that would be "accurate enough" - and 1 in 20 readings can be anywhere outside that level of accuracy.Hi all. The kit came and the reading was 8.3 - so from what I read, in the diabetic range. Hopefully we will get this under control soon with diet changes and see what the GP says! Thanks all
@KennyA I will certainly have a read of that section. Thank you!
I control my type 2 just by not eating the carbs - it is the same logic as when the sink is blocked and overflowing, you turn off the tap and let the water drain away as it can - medication bails out the sink into a bucket, works faster but the problem is still the same.Wow Thank you all so much for the replies. One more thing to add: frequent urination comes with diabetes, because we urinate a LOT.... Little bits at a time, frequently though, could indicate a bladder infection, with diabetics are very prone to. (The bacteria end up feasting on the glucose in the urine). So if he's still weeing often but not a lot, it's worth turning in a sample and checking for an infection, if that's not been done already. Thanks all. Got a call from the GP today and yes it is Type 2. Prescription for Metformin has been sent to the pharmacy. We were expecting this. Since joining the forum my husband has been off the carbs, and we will continue to improve his diet so it remains under control.
@Resurgam great analogy, thank you for sharing. I think low or no carbs for the husband!

I was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate about 3 years after being diagnosed with diabetes. I was called in to see my GP about my glucose levels being high,I replied that I would like to see D/N because I was weeing a lot . he sent me for P.A.S test. There may be a lot of men with diabetes that wee lot but you never know it could be to do with your prostate
