Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Ok thanks for welcoming me to this forum.
I am Al and I’m 66 and live in West Yorkshire England with my wife and 2 cockapoos.
I am fully retired after working for 43+ years with DWP / DHSS.
I have grown up twin daughters and a 4 year old granddaughter and 2 year old grandson.
Not religious at all - consider myself an Atheist.
Love sport - football, cricket (men’s and women’s), athletics, rugby. Was a season ticket holder at Huddersfield Town for many years but now just an armchair supporter.
Love music - top bands are Roxy Music, Genesis, Bowie, Be Bop Deluxe and Magazine.
Listen to History podcasts on a regular basis.
Don’t travel abroad these days. Holidays are spent in Cornwall with the kids and grandkids.
Am I wealthy? Comfortable I would say.
Been Diabetic type2 for 14 years. Only know my HB1CA figure from one year to next when the health centre does my annual review. To be honest I tend to eat what I want, when I want but think now I should be getting a grip of my diet hence my registering on here. Currently on Metformin and last year I was put on Dapagliflozin as well. Lost over a stone in weight but found I was peeing for England day and night and it was making my life a misery. Couldn’t go out for fear of getting caught short. So they took me off them but didn’t come up with any alternative. Also I'm into Betting API Provider for Seamless IntegrationSuspect by betbazar I could do with something else to support the Metformin.
You’re definitely not alone with the medication challenges) Welcome.

Hello my name is Teresa and I am currently 55 years old. I was diagnosed type 2 Jan 2011 with a HbA1c 52 & BMI 26.9. I started the Newcastle Diet on 3/2/2015. After 7 weeks on ND I was taken off Empagliflozin x10mg & HbA1c 36. I kept my HbA1c steady for years at around 44, by running and a healthy diet. Then gained an injury during Covid that stopped me running. From 2022 -2024 I had a very stressful period with a major incident at work and I was put back on Empagliflozin. By the end of 2023, despite managing my weight well, I started to loose control of my diabetes. The stressful period has been over for a year and the excuse is no longer valid. Current HbA1c is 66 and additional medication has of 100mg Sitagliptin has been added. I have started to increase my exercise but need some support and food ideas to get back on track. In September I took on two large allotment plots and last week I started a 15 minute a day exercise programme, which increases over time. I need to build my strength and fitness level. I feel lost and like I am really hurting myself with these high levels. Not wanting sympathy, but practical advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi, and welcome back to the forum.

Many people here have improved their blood sugar levels by looking closely at their diet, and in particular the carbs in their diet. Maybe take a look at this thread to get an idea of what meals might help. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/what-have-you-eaten-today-low-carb-forum.75781/

I also suggest starting your own new thread asking for help with your diet and maybe giving some information on what you currently eat.

Edited to add missing link.
