I quite fancy a real bike, but we live at the top of a BIG hill... going down would be ok, but not so sure about the up!

I thought about one as well, only I live at the top on not a huge hill. but one that seems to keep going a while  The static one is ok, and gets the job done, or at least will once himself oils it, but I think to be out and about would make it more interesting. Oh lor, this stepper is hurting, maybe I am not as fit as I thought I was. Three minutes, then I have to give up, that's a measly 100 reps.

nooo i was empathising!!

I'm still a wimp  I have just done a short session on the treadmill, then will do the stepper again, once I have a drink. Then when himself gets in, and eldest daughter, I have persuaded them all it's such a nice evening, we should walk the dogs, so will have a good walk soon. Then, himself can oil bike, while I fight the evil stepper again. I will beat the **** thing, it's only a machine for heavens sake.

Re: A Geordie trying the Newcastle Diet

I'm really struggling with the Metformin SR at the moment. I get horrendous gripes from early afternoon onwards and then stabbing pains during the evening/night. I will stick with it for a while longer, but it's making exercise more difficult (not an excuse, honist!!!)

I had horrible problems with Metformin initially, I just couldn't eat. Most days managing 500 calories maximum, it was awful. With me it was the appetite suppressant effects, they were really powerful. Once I went onto the ND it would have made no difference as the calorie intake was low anyway, and just liquid. Now I don't seem to be having the problem of them suppressing appetite, I just need to manage my time better, and organise myself to fit in the shakes, I always seem to miss the 3rd (I will again today as I've not had number two yet).

Re: A Geordie trying the Newcastle Diet

the worst bit is the horrid stabbing pains. It's like someone randomly jabbing my arms and legs with a needle :(

I'm really sorry to hear that, perhaps a trip to the GP may be the ticket?

Re: A Geordie trying the Newcastle Diet

Saturday May 26 - day 34

Lunch
Pre BG 4.8 + 2 4.8

Dinner (solid food meal). 1 Debbie and Andrew sausage with veg - calories 178
Pre BG 4.7 + 2 4.1

Supper
Pre BG 4.0   + 2 4.9

3rd shake missed today.
Pre BG +2

Fluid

Water 3L
Tea black 4 cups

Exercise

Stepper 12 minutes (ouch) 20 minutes treadmill 45 minute brisk walk with dogs - brilliant exercise day, really pleased.

Verdict after day 34

Total shock!! A 4.1 +2 dinner reading was eye opening enough, but the 4.0 before my supper shake floored me. I have said this before, and will say it again, exercise really is key to lowering BG's on the ND and there is nothing that will make me believe otherwise.

Feeling really, really good although  will miss 3rd shake again, as I have only just had the second. How the heck do people fit in four meals a day, I really struggle to do it, especially not eating breakfast  May have to give the third shake up as a no go. I just can't manage my time enough to fit it in.

[edit to add] extra exercise and supper +2

I've not long been! He just smiled and said it would pass.....

The SR are supposed to be the better ones, it doesn't seem to apply in your case. Have you tried the regular ones?

Re: A Geordie trying the Newcastle Diet

yes I started on those... even worse gastric problems but the needle pain was the same :((

You may have to try something else. I will avoid meds at all cost, but don't mind the Met, but if I were in your shoes, it might be worth a chat to see if there is another solution. Doesn't sound fun at all.

Re: A Geordie trying the Newcastle Diet

(sorry am watching Eurovision!!!)

yes I probably will when I get totally fed up with it all, but for now my levels are very slowly going in the right direction and I'd rather stick with it if I can :) until I get to a position where I can do the ND (likely to be next year)

Re: A Geordie trying the Newcastle Diet

The ND is brilliant for BG levels, all the evidence including my own experience prove that, but if you do it the way I did, just shakes for the first four weeks, you really need to be determined, especially if like me, you have others you have to cook for. If you do three shakes and a meal, it really is so much easier. This last week has flown by, and being able to eat as well, made is just so much easier. I will probably do the three shakes only each January to get back on track post Christmas, if I need to, but if my figures crept up, I would do it again then. To be honest, I could do this two/three shakes a day for life, as it's so simple and easy to make sure you have everything planned. I usually work my meal out a day in advance, check the calories and carbs are fine, then get it from the freezer, and I do weigh absolutely everything religiously. But, my figures show it's well worth it.

I hope you will do a diary so I can come along and support you, or if you try the ND in January, we could support each other. :D

Re: A Geordie trying the Newcastle Diet

I'm not sure exactly when I'll be able to do it as it depends on work, but yes I'll do a diary :) I want to get some more weight off first and my levels as low as I can manage.

Now it's me being distracted - sorry.

I truly believe that because of how the diet is, you really do have to plan a time that suits you best. The weight will slide off with the ND so much so, as you know I was really concerned at one point. Now my issue is more about water retention and I'm just not sure how it's happening. I do drink loads of water, but have never retained like I am at the moment. Very curious.
