Don't panic, there is lots you can do. Remember, this is the worst time of your diabetes journey. I think most likely all of us here went through a horrible time of partial ignorance, horror and dismay in the beginning. I am now sort of stabilised, but I have never forgotten how how wretched and afraid I was at first.

First, re-evaluate your diet. Are there carbs in there of which you are not yet aware? Have a look at Dr Bernstein's list of "no no" foods https://www.diabetes-book.com/no-no-foods/ and then move on to his list of "What's left to eat". https://www.diabetes-book.com/whats-left-to-eat/

You say you are eating "loads of protein and veg and berries." According to Dr B protein raises the bg about half as much as carbs, but still counts. Vegetables do contain carbs, especially root veg and any kind of bulb eg onions. Leafy greens are the lowest carb veg. Berries are the lowest in carbs of the fruits, but still they have way more carbs than most veg. They need to be eaten very moderately if at all. The more or less carb free foods are fish, flesh, fowl and fat. Of those, the one that is reliably totally carb free is fat. As you reduce your carbs, assuming you are not aiming to lose weight, you do need to replace the missing carbs with fat, as well as some extra protein.

Were you eating a "healthy" low fat diet before? I certainly was. You now need to turn that on its head. Plenty of fat, even saturated fat.

Are you testing your blood? Testing urine is considered less reliable.

Are you eating late at night? If so, that may raise your morning fasting bg.

Stress can raise bg.

You might find inspiration in the numerous videos by Dennis Pollock, titled "Beat Diabetes" on Youtube.

Enough for now. You are being tremendously pro-active, great! You'll get there! Good luck!

Thank you for taking time to reply
I do test my blood.
I do need to lose a very significant amount of weight
Previously I ate whatever I wanted, lots of treats barely and fruit or veg.
This is very overwhelming and I'm trying. I'm going to ask to see someone as my GP simply sent a text saying my results have drastically changed 47mmol and I need to eat healthy a s that was all

Mine was 7.1 and 2 hrs after a fry up was 6.8
When you get a bg that is unexpectedly low 2 hours after a meal, it is always worth re-testing. I have had a big drop 2 hours after a meal and then a big rise up to 4 hours later. This can be due to several factors - lots of fat and / or protein in the meal, a very big meal, or delayed stomach emptying (gastroparesis) in the person.

In a way that is good news! Losing weight seems to be much easier on a low carb diet, and lowering bg seems to happen easily as people lose weight.
I think you might find it comforting to watch some of the Youtube videos by Dennis Pollock called "Beat Diabetes".

I had sausages bacon eggs mushrooms and beans a half a slice of wholemeal seeded bread. I also drank apple cider vinegar with water after. I've not eaten since 6 hrs ago.Is it worth re testing now or not?

It might be interesting to see where your bg is now, and then test as I suggested hourly the next time you get a suspect low reading at 2 hours.

Everyone is different. For me, your meal was quite high carb. Do you have a diet plan? Do you watch how many carbs you eat in a day / at a meal? For me, beans and bread are off the menu, and I am careful to check the amount of carbs in my sausages and bacon. (Yes, bacon can contain carbs.)

So just tested and now am 5.9.
I was told by the diabetic nurse during a pregnancy that sausage and bacon had no carbs my partner put 4 halves of toast on my plate. I ate 1 half. Seeing as it's Easter. Today is a day where I will eat a little treat. I've been watching what I eat for a week now and have lost 5lb.

I don't count carbs, I've seen so much conflicting information but I am not eating white carbs or having added sugar. No crisps no cakes no biscuits. The amount I've changed in 1 week is a lot. Until I get some support from a health care professional, I'm winging it!

What do you think of the last result of 5.9?
Certainly better than 7.1! If I hadn't eaten for hours, I would hope to see a bg of under 5.5 You will have to decide on your own targets. Are you testing your fasting bg every morning?

Yes my fasting morning reading was 7.1. Usually in the 7s.
No-one has actually given me a target or what to look out for in regards to numbers

You need to be careful with sausages if you are trying to limit carb. Almost all have added filler, usually around 30% by weight, which is usually oatmeal or similar, so carbohydrate. I buy the Polish and German sausage in Lidl, which is usually around 98/99% meat, or the Heck sausages which I think are around 95% meat. Bacon is usually not a problem.

The confusion almost feels like it's deliberate. The official advice since the 1980s is still, in the face of increasing obesity and type 2 incidence, to base all meals around carbohydrates. You may well get that advice from your health care professional.

I used to follow that advice, and ended up diabetic. For over five years now my limit has been around 20-25g carb/day, almost all of which comes from green veg. Result, normal BG within four months and in the years following I've lost around 90lbs. There is absolutely nothing new about low-carb - it was the standard "lose weight" advice doctors gave up to the 1980s - "cut out starches and sugars".

I do not have diabetes
Hi everyone
I am new to this site and just wanted some advice please. I haven't been diagnosed with pre-diabetes as not seen a doctor but my morning levels have started to rise, previously around 4-5 but last 4 mornings have been .. 6.2, 6.0, 5.3, 5.8, I am exhausted by 9 pm most days, thristy a lot, need the loo once in night and several times in day. toes/feet numb and cold, one toe swollen and sore. vision more blurry, my Dad, brother, cousin and niece all type 1. Last Hb1Ac , 2 months ago was 37. Just wondered if I was getting pre-diabetic or worrying about nothing. I would be interested to know about other peoples experiences with this thanks
