Hi all type 2 just over a year. Hba1c was 150 but got it t0 41. Feel I've lost the plot don't know what's definitive nos any more and feel it's meds not me doing the work. Bloods never above 8. What are no no foods and drinks. I've changed to wholemeal rice pasta and bread...feeling lost and confused.

Though note that depedent on the meds being taken, care may need to be taken when reducing carbs, eg if its any of the actual blood-glucose reducing meds then hypos could happen with a reduction in carbs

Meat, fish, cheese, eggs, above ground veg, salad. Butter, cream, Greek yoghurt, nuts. Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries in moderation.

For example last night I had a large sea bas fillet cooked with lemon, with garlic mushrooms and some large prawns. Tonight we are out for a meal so it will be steak and salad. Earlier in the week I had bbq good quality sausages, beef burger coleslaw and salad. I also cook dishes like chilli or curry and have them with cauliflower instead of rice. Same with pasta sauces (home made as many jars have added sugar).

But as others have said it’s best not to go too low carb too quickly if you are on some types of medication so it would be helpful to know what you take.

@Lakeslover thank you so much that was really helpful
Hi. There are recipes on the forum and will help you lots! You can have a cooked breakfast of bacon, sausages, eggs and tomatoes so that's a great start to the day. In fact you can have that for any meal. I often do that for my last meal :)

We are all individuals here, and we must each set our targets that we would feel comfortable to be getting, and then work towards that goal. For me, a HbA1c of 41 is one I would be heppy to achieve, and so personally I would not feel any urgency in getting it any lower. i have been registering in the 39 to 46 range for some 7 or 8 years now, so I am quite content with that level of control, and I tailor my diet and lifestyle around that.

I remember some of your earlier posts, and i congratulate you on your achievements. Now it is for you to decide if you are going to stick or twist, knowing that twist in this case could lead to hypo's. due to medication issues as mentioned previous.

@Irishmist66 Sorry, but I feel it's pointless for us to make suggestions based purely on speculation as to which Type of diabetes you have, how strongly you have it and which medication you are taking.
So please either update your profile. or let us know these things in this thread.

The hardest bit is starting, once you've got a list of as many low carbs foods that you like as possible, start to make up a few day's menus so you'll not be stuck for ideas for something to eat. Then make a list of breakfasts, lunch, dinners or even snacks that are low carb. That way you'll not be stuck for what to eat and you'll be able to stock your cupboards and fridge with your chosen low carb foods.

Try and register with some of the free websites such as 'fatsecret.co.uk', 'myfitnesspal.com', there are a few others, my favourite one is 'cronometer.com' as it lets me register my blood glucose levels. You just add your food in them and the websites will analyse the carb, fat and protein content of each food. Make up your menu for (say) the day and tweak your food by adjusting the volume, or removing heavy carb foods. I find it's a bit of a game as sometimes I can add a bit more food to my day's menu. It helps when you're cooking for your family, you could easily adjust recipes by having a tweak here and there.

You'll soon build up your confidence to what you can eat and what you'd best be avoiding. We've all had to make that start to the delicious world of low carb. Good luck.

@Lainie71 hi I'm type 2 starting hba1c was 140 last one was 41. Not had a test recently
It sounds like you are doing great. In the UK, an HbA1C is considered to be the very top end of the normal range (though the pre-diabetic range start is a little lower in some other countries including the USA).

Is there any reason you feel down? It's quite rare for an HbA1C to come down that much, that quickly without some very powerful medication indeed.
So you must be doing something right.

Can you let us know if you are still taking just Metformin and Trulicity?
Are you feeling OK on the those medications? They both have some unpleasant side effects in some people?
