Thanks @Bebo321Pipp,
I just had a thought. Have you approached your doctor/healthcare advisors etc about finding a qualified personal trainer who could give you some helpful advice and see if someone could do a home visit? It's just that with having had a spinal injury I would hope that you could get some input from someone who can ensure you're getting a good workout whilst protecting any vulnerable areas.
Hey - you may get lucky and win yourself a gorgeous hunk of a guy.I can see your new thread now - 'Willowy in one hour!'

Too right! You can never have too many hunks!![]()
Some years ago I spent some time with a Private Physio (I was on Company BUPA at the time), following a serious road traffic accident which followed serious spinal surgery. She made the point quite firmly that you could devise your own exercises around the home. For example, instead of going upstairs just once you could go up, come down and go up again. I was in a wheelchair at the time and specialists told me I'd never get upstairs again (they were wrong) I personally didn't think it was feasible at that time. Another was:Can I ask for ideas?
I want to vary the exercise I do. I am a bit limited. Generally housebound if I am unable to drive somewhere. Can't always drive due to medication for severe allergies, can't use public transport so need something I am able to do at home. Nightie dancing I have tried, I try to walk but not able to do that for long or far. (Have wheelchair, wonderful NHS issue that failed to take into account my spinal injury is to my neck, therefore not able to propel the wheelchair - you couldn't make it up).
So has anyone tried a body blade? What about Wii fit? Has anyone used them? Anything to give me a cardio workout. Not able to use treadmill or cycle. Just need some variety. As much as I love the swimming pool I can't always get there, and I worry about boring you with my similar posts. I need a new challenge, but it has to be one I can achieve, at home.
Thanks chums
Pipp
It would have been a bit messy if you had dropped the trifle.Ooooops just found my notes - that should have been a bag of sugar, not a trifle...
I must have improvised. Didn't use sugar, even then...
Thanks @notned i do see a physio, and she has me doing Pilates to strengthen core muscles which have taken a battering in the last couple of years. I do try to use garden furniture as gym equipment and whenever possible use the stairs too. I feel as if I need to extend the exercises. Just looking for ideas really, though I suppose the physio will be on to me. My GP knows I see the physio, so I am bemused as to why he wants me to see the health trainer. Will have to see her as I am curious and trying to keep an open mind. Some years ago I spent some time with a Private Physio (I was on Company BUPA at the time), following a serious road traffic accident which followed serious spinal surgery. Sit upright. Place a Morisson's (Safeway then, or Asda) trifle on the flat of your hand and raise it just above your head, then lower it to your knees. Repeat several million times then try the other hand.
I don't think it did any good but it was nice to spend that time every day with a trifle.. and I swear it got lighter with every lift..
Thanks @Pollylocks I will check with physio. She seems to have more sense than doc. I like the idea of bodyblade. An exercise that you can stay still for does it for me. I trust your judgement too. Though I will leave the skipping.....oh Pipp I'm really so sorry to hear about your local swimming pool being closed down, we all know in here how much you enjoy it....I hope there's some private ones you may have missed out when checking and that you find one to suit you...xx
....You asked about body blades and Wii Fit......I have a body blade, they're good for working out and use much more energy than you'd think as you stay still when using them...I have a bad back and its not affected by it but thats not the same as a spinal injury and a bad neck, you'd need to check it out.....if there's a gym where the swimming pool is I'm sure someone there would know.....similarly the Wii Fit....I've not done it for ages but the sports I did used to do on it were quite energetic but there are absolutely tons of them I didn't try and there are different levels on most if not all as far as I remember...
...Well, am only up this late as it was too hot to go to bed and try and sleep earlier, am going to give it a whirl now...![]()

Aw but I liked the happy faced horsey one.lol, yeh, this one's much better. I took a while to choose between this one (Villa Real) or Scarborough FC....I might put the Scarborough one on later when I get bored with this.![]()
Quite!...that was one of my happier faces! So I decided not to go for a 'happy face' but a happy place instead.Aw but I liked the happy faced horsey one.
Ah, regional difference in title I think. Where I live health trainers are sort of personal trainers who devise individual programmes for people with health conditions, or just those who want/need to make improvements to their health. I tried to get in touch with them a few years ago to assist me in setting up a community group for people who were not accessing sport due to obesity and the related problems. They were very elusive. Lots of talking the talk, not much action. We ended up setting up the group without their input, and it is something I am proud of achieving, as many people who would not step foot inside the sport centre have become as fanatical as I am about water based exercise. Some have surpassed expectations and use the gym. (My nemesis)!'Health trainer?' that sounds like a bit of a 'mumbo jumbo haven't really got much of a clue but I went on a day release course for training' kind of a title, or have I got that wrong? (Apologies for any Health Trainers reading who have just qualified after five years of study)
What I meant was a personal trainer qualified in working with injuries - I've got a good friend who's a personal trainer and though she wouldn't be qualified for that specialism she tells me that much of the time she just helps devise new and different exercises to help clients stay motivated to work out.
If you could find all that in a hunky package. Perfect.![]()

So, i will go see the health trainer at GP's request. Apparently, they have vouchers to offer free slimming club and cookery classes. Happy to keep an open mind about exercise suggestions, but will try to behave if cooking is suggested, as I have inside info that they are the usual carb with every meal variety. Depending how I feel I may go along and like @Scandichic inform the other participants about LCHF and Newcastle diets etc.
Oh and the health trainer I am booked with is female, so I will carry on being happy with the hunk i have at home.
