struggling big time

Good for you, ally. Please do not feel embarrassed about the walking aid. It will help you to stay safe and independent.
Keep up the good work and being persistent with the OTs and physios.

Massive, massive well done @ally1 from me. %5BURL=http://www.sherv.net/]

My guess is once you feel the confidence your walker should give you, you won't care who sees you. Personally, I'd rather be seen using a walking aid, than in an undignified heap on the floor, having fallen.

Take your time and enjoy your newfound freedom. You have so deserved this result.

Thank you.
Its everyone here that has encouraged me all along to get what I needed

Well done @ally1!! Now that the weather is starting to get a bit nicer, you will so appreciate being able to get out and about. Maybe your walker needs some pretty flowers attached?! You have done so very well throughout this whole process - all of us here on the Forum are really proud of you and I hope you are very proud of you! All the best with the home visit whenever that happens and keep us posted! Blessings/L

Thank you

@ally1 how are you getting on with your rollator ?

Hello Ally my bloods arexalways that high in the mornings and are even 11 or 12 some times when I go to bed, but I feel so much better in my head and in myself since I went low carb.I don't eat anything sweet now, but it has taken a long time to get where I am. keep going you will get there. Xx

Thank you.

Since coming home on Friday, I have,nt been out of the house.
My left leg is so painful from mid calf to mid thigh.
Sending you big hugs , my husband's legs have been swollen all weekend . From knee downwards . Lots of pain in his hips plus shoulders to. Pain relief still not helping . A week tomorrow he's back at pain clinic . Have you been able to get much sleep ?

Not much sleep but I am a very poor sleeper anyway x

I went into town with my walker, got on and off the bus ok with the walker ok. It was the first time I have left the house since last Friday. I was very self consious but it was easier once I was out and about. Nobody battered an eyelid which helped. I didn"t see any of my neighbours, so still got that to face

Well done, that lass!

Have been to see the neuro physio this morning.
Had a tougher assessment. Checked all sorts including walking.
Has said significant weakness in left leg. Weakness in right leg and some weakness in right hand and wrist.
Has agreed the neuropathy is mostly to blame. Though other factors including eyesight, medication I am on and this bit I am very surprised about, is even my bipolar can make a difference. There was so much to take in, that I most likely have forgotten.
Physio has advised using the walker at all times so that it will stop any falling over.

He also suggested wearing the alarm thing in case I fall and can't get back up. Only problem is, I need 3 people that they can call on if I need their help. As my neighbours are elderly, they won't be able to help. So am stuck there on this one.

An excellent appointment @ally1.
I think I understand that assistance aid. Does anyone in social services help you? Sometimes they can be nominated as a port of call... Years ago. Not sure if changed.
Anyone here know more for ally's predicament?
A next of kin, maybe? I think normally carer or family member to get you home safe.?

People without used to fall under social care, right?
No sure if your bipolar medic would know more? Calling them would clarify this for you Ally. When do you see them next?

There is a link that my friend wears on her wrist, that goes straight to a contact centre.. they only need one person listed to check.
Daisy and lady playing on Saturday in garden. I was in her kitchen and all of a sudden alarms went off and someone was speaking through speaker!
It was Daisy dog that caught her wrist button whilst playing-ooops!!
She did not have to pay for this alarm system to be put in.
If you cant provide 3 people, you cant provide. If person is on a mobile its better as most people have these on them a lot.

Think all sorts of meds can have side effects... I know when I was on gabapentin I couldnt walk straight and another affected noise levels of conversations that I couldnt tolerate.. getting used to tablets doesnt necessarily mean that they arent unbalancing... it can be just that we no longer notice it so much on a day to day basis until a fall can happen. Unfortunately its deciding on evils of drugs compared to benefits. Your mood and bipolar needs to be managed, if the walker keeps you safer then that is probably the best action rather than faffing around with meds....

Glad you been seen... dont let the 3 person thing put you off, if only one person, then its one person.
With my friend, the one person goes round and checks and finds out if it a false alarm or whether ambulance needed. It doesnt have to be a family member or anyone close as a friend. Just someone that can check on you and confirm state of care needed.... or not (as in our case on Saturday!!
).. xx

Sounds like at long last Ally, you are receiving the attention you have needed for a long time. I'm sure it must be a huge relief and also even more frustration knowing all this has been out there whilst you've been struggled. If I've been battling reeeeaaaallllly hard, and make a breakthrough, as you have, I sometimes end up having a bit of a cry over it. Seems like all the emotions come out to play for a while.

However, moving onto your predicament; it could be worthwhile for you to understand what these three people would be expected to do, if you did have a fall. I think who we can ask can be a bit different if they just have to check on you, or if they would be expected to help you up, if you'd fallen. If it's the latter, that's a big ask for anyone, of any age.

Ally, you won't be the only person who lives some way from family and have a limited support network around you. There'll be a way arounf things.

Oh, and perhaps you. Should also be referred to a falls clinic... most CCG's have a falls clinic and can help in providing you with things / advice to help.

No member of public should ever attempt to help anybody in a situation off a fall. If that person cannot use their own body, strength or own mind to get up themselves then external services such as 111 or 999 should be used.
