Yes two whole years today since my Type 2 diagnosis!
I’ve gone from “Shell Shocked” (the title of my first post here) to confident in how to tame this beast!
Within 4 months of my diagnosis I went from an HbA1c of 70 down to the mid 30s where I have stayed ever since. Last test taken on 23rd April was 34, I was very relieved after having had surgery in Feb.
I’ve gone from 115kg (BMI 43.5 morbidly obese) to 73.6kg (BMI 27.8 - merely overweight!) a loss of 6 1/2 stone in old money, most of that in the first year plus gradual loss over the second year.
My BP which was high despite meds is now normal on less meds, infact just this week I reduced my meds further still due to dizzy spells caused by BP being too low!
I sleep very well and need only 6-7 hours sleep per night, I awake refreshed, very different to how I used to be sleeping for hours and hours and still feeling tired.
I have had two major surgeries on my arthritic feet since diagnosis and recovery has been uncomplicated and infection free due I think to my strict control, my surgeon was impressed! My arthritis has generally improved as has my asthma.
I follow a low carb way of eating, currently eating 30 - 50g of carbs/day, with Metformin and self monitoring to achieve all of this - I dread to think where I’d be now if I hadn’t stumbled on this forum on the night of my diagnosis!
Then to add the icing on the (LC!) cake I was voted in as a moderator here last year. I love to help enable the smooth running of the forum, take part in discussions, I’m still learning, and to help reassure and advise newbies, it is my small way of paying back.
I always say my diabetes diagnosis really has been a blessing in disguise, as a result of it I am so much fitter than I was this time two years ago!
